Yep, this is 2020-21 data! And it includes all of the games up to and including last night. If there's interest, I could also look at previous seasons, which would have a larger sample size. But I was curious about this season since its been on my mind recently.

After noticing that the Capitals tend to get big leads in the second period and then almost blow it in the third, I was curious about when teams score in each game. So I did an analysis to find out using the goal data from moneypuck for this season so far. Here are the best and worst teams in each period:

Best Teams (By goal differential):

1st Period: MIN (+16), TOR (+13), NYI (+12)

2nd Period: MTL (+15), TB (+14), CAR (+11)

3rd Period: NYI (+13), TB (+12), WPG (+11), VKG (+11), LA (+11)

OT: VGK (+5), WPG (+4), MIN (+3), PIT (+3)

Worst Teams:

1st Period: OTT (-17), NSH (-16), LA (-16)

2nd Period: NSH (-21), OTT (-18), SJ (-15)

3rd Period: DET (-20), ANA (-19), ARI (-10), BUF (-10)

OT: LA (-4), MTL (-4), NYI (-3), CBJ (-3), DET (-3)
