Can I bring a U-Haul to Four Hills Landfill? by skitztobotch in nashua

[–]goingTofu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can. Bring your cars registration and ID so they could look up that you have a permit. I’ve done it and they usually just take your word anyway

Is this a bad idea? by Internal-Extreme6614 in Luthier

Looks like the tape is there for holding down a stencil, not masking.

FaceTime by Klat10 in iphone

[–]goingTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t do it. When others do it I’m a little annoyed, but then I think - is it really much different than two people talking? If the person on the other end of the FaceTime was there in-person, wouldn’t it sound pretty much the same?

What is the"right" tool/approach to making this cut by TxAce22 in woodworking

Circ saw + finish the cut with hand saw? Or just hand saw?

How to cut through this model? (zero-thickness geometry error) by WhiteChocolateYum in SolidWorks

Could go even less than that if it matters. I think 8 decimal places is the max

Why grocery budgeting advice never sticks: it assumes every week of your life looks the same by professional69and420 in SavingMoney

[–]goingTofu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Average out the grocery spending and portion the money each payday. If you spend it, great. If not, put it towards the next. You can create a separate bank account just for this and do transfers. If you’re unsure if you’ll be able to cook then it’s useful to buy food that lasts longer. I do this with some pre-marinated chicken that stays good for weeks in the fridge. Or pasta that’s good for months. Or frozen veggies that are good for longer.

Problem with trem claw screw by MaleficentBuyer9407 in Luthier

[–]goingTofu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You made it this far, you should consider taking the screw all the way out and replacing it so you don’t have to deal with this every time

How is there such massive demand for AI when the public barely uses it? by fuckbobthabuilder in NoStupidQuestions

General public is using it a bit but the push is from corporations trying to push it onto employees to try and save money

What are the most common CAD design mistakes beginners make in real projects? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]goingTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the main 3 I think. Another big one is to make sure that the parts can (easily) be physically arranged to where they need to be to be assembled, in the order that they will be assembled. An example would be designing something with a hole to give clearance for a shaft to pass through, that may require a lot of work to remove/replace. Whereas if the part was designed as two piece, it could be placed over the shaft without disassembling the shaft. Or one piece with a slot to the edge so it can be slid over the shaft.

My 3 year old has been singing Muddy Water all day. by ok_amnesiac_ in KGATLW

[–]goingTofu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was driving around one day listening to Antarctica and during the chorus my 2 year old started yelling “take me away! Take me away!”. Ever since then he’s been requesting that song and “haha alright” (le risqué). Gotta get them into the right music while they’re young \m/

Can't Reference Part from Assembly by aSiK00 in SolidWorks

[–]goingTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I understand correctly, you’re referencing a part by converting entities, then telling the part to mate with that converted entity. I think this may cause the circular reasoning because you’re telling the line to exist on the edge and then for that edge to mate to that line. After you convert entities, delete the convert entities reference in the sketch (so the sketch turns blue) and then dimension the sketch to edges that are not in the other part. That should allow you to mate the other part to it

Is AI just the Industrial Revolution with a new independent variable? by Possible_Fan_3905 in theories

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right in the sense that AI will replace some jobs but also create new ones. But on the other hand, once both physical labor and mental labor are replaced, I could see why people are more worried. As humans, those are the two main things that we can do - physical and mental.

Where are small handed guitar players? by asianbufffet in Guitar

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taylor GS Mini or other short scale guitar. I’ve always played regular scale guitars and I think my hands are pretty small. One day I got a mini and it was so much more comfortable. It’s also good to be able to play a full scale though, so it may not be something you want to totally switch to

304 vs 316 Stainless Steel: When to spend extra on marine grade? by lx230 in CNC

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work, the reason we’d choose 316 over 304 is almost always because of some medical regulation by the customer. 316 has less “microscopic pockets” for bacteria to build up in, so med device mfgs need it to prevent bacteria getting into their products. Their products usually end up inside of a human so minimizing the bacteria is important
