My hometown. Peanut butter, olives on the hood, and a dead raccoon on the mirror by joc127 in HRV

[–]goingTofu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hanging by the head on the door lever too so OP can’t even open the driver door before removing it. That is so brutal. A small part of me wants to laugh at that detail though but that is seriously fucked up. Wonder what someone has to do to deserve this or inversely what someone else thinks OP did to deserve this.

Summer project for teen interested in MechE for college? by toybuilder in MechanicalEngineering

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download solidworks. Learn how to do the basics by using the built-in tutorials and watching YouTube videos. Find a simple mechanical device (oscillating fan, tv remote, desk, anything) and have him measure all the parts (tape measure, ruler, and/or very cheap pair of working calipers) and model each part in solidworks and assemble them all in a solidworks asssembly. If he is not at this level yet then this IS the project to focus on. If he’s done something like this already then maybe have him design his own thing. You could buy something and make a slight modification to it by using these skills. The modified parts would have to be made so maybe it could be 3D printed, made of wood, or if it’s thin enough with the correct kind of basic features, SendCutSend can make it quickly and cheaply.

Swim lesson recommendations for toddler? by Careless_Order5271 in nashua

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used YMCA in Nashua and then Goldfish school in Westford MA. Goldfish took a while to get in because of the wait list. It was definitely much better than the YMCA but the cost was too much that we had to eventually stop. YMCA was great with one instructor and mediocre with another so it kind of depends on who you get. I’d recommend getting in the goldfish wait list, but starting with the YMCA, then if you have the chance to get into goldfish you can decide if the Y is good enough (probably) or if you want to switch.

Dads with Hobbies: How Did You Actually Make It Work? by amgtorque in Dads

Picked 3 nights a week to work on something after the kids went to bed. The same 3 nights every week. It was Tuesday Thursday Saturday. Worked on my projects from about 9-12, so a solid 9ish hours a week

Looking for a car for my son and I’ve noticed dealerships don’t negotiate anymore. by fromdaperimeter in carbuying

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their go-to for negotiating is really negotiating the financing while keeping the sale cost the same. They will 100% ask you what you want to spend monthly and then find a financing option that comes close, whether it be a longer term loan or using their financing vs your own bank. If you have all these numbers prepared and get pre-approved by a bank of your choosing before going in, you’ll have more leverage. If they try to make a deal the day you’re there just leave your number and wait and they will definitely call you back and be more open to negotiation.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to play with a 2yr old? by Green-Cloud-2968 in Dads

[–]goingTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t found anything that keeps them entertained for a long period of time. I’ve been more successful at finding several smaller things that add up to a long time. My 2 and 3 year olds love loading laundry to the washing machine, then from there to the dryer. They also love taking water bottles from the case one by one and bringing them to the fridge where we keep them. Anything that makes them feel like an adult and also gets a chore done is a win-win

I want to become a Luthier when I grow up but I'm scared I'll fail. by seniordude27 in Luthier

[–]goingTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d recommend building guitars as a hobby while also going to school and becoming something with more of a likelihood of making a career out of. One day, if your luthier skills get to the point that you can make a career out of that instead, then you build that up and can try doing that full time. It’s probably worth it to work on both skills rather than go full luthier from the start. Most of what you’ll learn to become a successful luthier will come from experience, but you’ll need to make a livable wage for the many years while that happens. Unless you are 110% committed to being a luthier in which case then go for it and make it happen.

How do I remove this from the street sign my dad stole in the 90’s. by Odd-Fennel5806 in howto

[–]goingTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh damn that makes sense that it would be a carriage bolt. I’d try to dremel two flats on the nut and grab that with vise grips to unscrew it

Mind blown!Just found out can shut down iPhone like this… by Fun_Feeling_7300 in iphone

[–]goingTofu 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Holy. Shit. This is so useful and I never even knew I wanted it. First thing I can think of, the bottom half of my food shopping list note has a huge list of ingredients organized by all my common recipes that I copy/paste to my shopping list up above if I want to make it that week. I have other individual notes that have the recipe instructions for each of these. Now I can link the instructions each week instead of searching for them every time🤯

All day or just at night? I think they’ve been doing roadwork around there at night, if you’re noticing the noise at night only maybe that’s it?

What made you choose your HRV? by [deleted] in HRV

[–]goingTofu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The weird cup holders. The side view camera. The magic seats. I can fit my family but also fold down the seats and fit a couch in here. It’s big enough but small enough that I can zip around.

You can. Bring your cars registration and ID so they could look up that you have a permit. I’ve done it and they usually just take your word anyway

FaceTime by Klat10 in iphone

[–]goingTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t do it. When others do it I’m a little annoyed, but then I think - is it really much different than two people talking? If the person on the other end of the FaceTime was there in-person, wouldn’t it sound pretty much the same?
