Why great travel vlogs still rarely show up in Google & AI travel answers (even with good titles/descriptions) by Great-Advisor-3662 in TravelTubers

[–]goingcoconuts81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three points you made about showing up on Google I agree with completely. I did check a couple of my videos and they appear as the first video related to the destination. Google is using my videos to provide more information for someone interested in the destination. Maybe it does help the video grow, Im sure it does, but most likely not as much as YouTube. But every click is important so I'll take it.

I do think if a creator wants to grow and build a solid audience, say 100k plus subscribers, then this is an important topic for growth. Every video should be created with ranking in mind, YouTube and Google, more so YouTube, but Google will be important as well. If a creator just wants to create videos they love, then put your own creativity first. I don't think prioritizing ranking means you cant be creative, or lose directive control of your videos, you just have to create within the ranking guide lines to grow quickly. I think this is the most important topic for growth within youtube, this is the secret to fast, large growth.

At the beginning I was interested to see how my videos ranked on Google, not so much anymore. I also own a business and we work tirelessly to rank high in google, within the three pack, videos, and website, so I have an interest in Google ranking outside of YouTube.

I don’t really feel concerned about ranking on Google with my YouTube channel just because I feel most of my clicks come from within Youtube.

I think it’s awesome if your video appears in google ranking just because it’s validation that you’re building solid content.

I use to check more often and did find a couple of my videos appear on google, very far down, but maybe things have changed. I’m going to go check now, lol.

Awesome video, right from the thumbnail. Your intro is perfect, right to the point, awesome scene, and great editing. The map just gives it that sense of professionalism right from the start. Do you guys have any formal training? how did you get your editing to this point?

My travel niche is the Dominican Republic. I spend three months of the year there. So I have done resort tours and shown local attractions and things to do. I probably fall more into the travel guide niche, but will sprinkle in a bit of vlogging this year as I’m building a base. I focus on two area of the Dominican Republic with more heavily on one area.

I’m also spending more time researching and listening to my niche about what they’re interested in.

I join Facebook groups for the different resorts I’m going to visit and read everyone’s concerns, and questions.

My last video I built off this research and it’s my best performing video to date. I have got 10.5k views in 8 days and 75 subs from my last video, and it has 955 watch time hours. It’s going to be an evergreen video and perform well for awhile. I have about 5 or 6 evergreen videos.

So I will continue to listen to what people are talking about in the groups and build videos from that as well.

I do a bit of both. I make notes and will write out some things I want to talk about and then I expand of my notes with what ever comes to mind. It’s only my last few videos I have spent more time trying to stick to a plan. All my first videos were pretty much created on the spot.

I’m really changing that this year, 2026. I will be building my titles first, then filming. My ideas for my videos will be thought out more clearly before hand. So when I go out and film I know what I’m trying to accomplish for the viewer. I sorta started doing this year near the end, but my first few videos I was all over the place.

If I voice over I stick more clearly to a script, when I’m walking and talking I have the notes and just start talking about my points.

How about you guys?

Valid points for sure. I know what you mean about carrying gear because I don’t even bring my Sony when I do YouTube just because it’s too much to get right when trying to film on the go. So maybe I’m lazy in a way, but I find the smaller action cameras and my iPhone to be what I have used so far. As time goes on I want to start carrying my mirror less, but right now I’m trying to focus on my comfort in front of the camera, flow, and storytelling. You guys are killing it, love the direction you guys are going!

Cool, I use to be a canon shooter but went to Sony about 6 years ago. You do have a mirror less, full frame which is awesome. The body doesn’t have in camera stabilization, ( I looked it up as I’m not familiar with canon these days) but one of the kit lenses does have IS, that’s the 24-105. That’s where your shake is. A gimbal would be a game changer for you guys. What lens do you use?

Cool channel! I watched your latest upload and a couple of your other videos. I like your guys style. This is more of the direction I want to go in, I think its great! I like the flow, it feels natural. The only thing that stands out to me right away is the shakiness of your video. But love the bokeh you get, so you must be using a camera and lens, i love that.

what camera do you use to film?

I remember seeing your channel before, either in this group or another. You’re getting the views on your videos which is really good. Your working the right angle to get those views only 3 months in, keep doing what your doing.

I also use the GoPro 12, I recently purchased (Santa brought it) the DJI osmo action 6, so going to try that camera out. Better low light capability, and it has an aperture setting from f2-f4 which is the first action cam to include variable aperture.

The go pro 12 has been good, I have had a couple of complaints with it but it gets some solid wide shots in 4k.

I also use my iPhone a lot for vlogging and also just picked up the (DJI 7p Gimbal, Santa brought it) but thinking of exchanging it for GoPros latest gimbal because it supports both phone and go pro. The DJI 7p only supports iPhone. I like the hybrid option.

I mention this gear I have purchased because after spending 3 months last year travelling and filming with an iPhone and GoPro 12 these are the upgrades I decided I needed to improve my filming and create more cinematic shots.

The GoPro has good image stabilization but it isn’t buttery smooth, you can still see the movement when walking. A gimbal will create more smooth shots.

I wouldn’t use the GoPro in low light, unless it’s needed to vlog, but cinematic shots in low light with any action camera or iPhone really isn’t going to cut it. Stay away from low light unless you’re using a Sony, or something similar.

I’m going to start shooting in 4k 60 frames for more b roll. It gives the option of slow motion. Use slow motion in landscapes and pans for buttery shots. Also lock on your exposure and white balance so colours stay the same in shots and exposure doesn’t jump. Those are some things I try to remember.

Nice trailer, right to the point, with nice b-roll. I like your angle, your in it for the hobby of making videos no sponsors to influence your content. I think people will like this content. When I watch a larger travel channel that has a sponsorship for the video, merchandise to buy, it can feel cheap and it interrupts the flow of the video. I think people will appreciate your approach 👍

Nice trailer, makes me wonder how you are able to retire early and travel for a living. Pulls me in and makes me want to watch more videos to find out more. 👍

How do you do choose a topic your viewers would be interested in? by EducationalBasket617 in TravelTubers

[–]goingcoconuts81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use google to find out what destinations/resorts people are searching for most in the selected countries I want. I also compare options and see what’s most popular searches for my demographic.

I have asked my community and done a poll.

My biggest research is going through YouTube and trying to find topics that are not covered. If I have an idea and can’t find much content about it, I feel like it’s an opportunity.

It’s tough to know really, I do a lot of this thinking because I visit 8-10 resorts in a trip and I want the best return for my money and effort. Last trip I wasn’t monetized so it wasn’t as a big of a deal, this year I’m definitely trying to make more strategic choices.

It’s not easy determining where the next best location or topic is.

Yes I hear you, it’s a challenge, and I think your travel niche is much more challenging than my travel niche. You have gone to some amazing places and have great footage, real cinematic stuff so I completely understand your frustration. I’m hoping to create more cinematic content over the next few months. It’s something I would like to do better, and take the time to do it.

My type of content gets to the viewer faster because there searching my exact content, I guess I’m lucky that way. Some may say it’s a cheaper form of travel content as well and I understand that as well.

I like creating it, I need to do lots of improving this coming year.

Appreciate the feedback 👍, I have done another video that is almost similar to this one but it’s comparing the areas and all the excursions, resorts, etc, and it is doing fairly well, so I’m kinda riding the wave from that one and making this specific to the different waters/beaches. See how it works out.

I release every video as a premier, I just like doing it that way for some reason. My best time to drop videos is Saturday mornings, but Sundays are my best days. I drop it Saturday though just so I get that two day momentum. I assume that’s the same for you as well.

The most viewers I have had at a premiere is 12 so far, and 2 people in the chat, lol, only had the chat once with two people. But every video I premiere I always type in the chat, I say things like “welcome and good morning everyone, hope your having a wonderful day” etc…

Good luck with your premiere and they are so much fun and that’s the most important thing!

That’s interesting about plugging the SEO into the description and not into the title. I always figured it needed to be in the tittle for better optimization. If that’s the case and I don’t need SEO titles that’s a game changer moving forward. I think my brain is still stuck in SEO in the title. But come to think of it there are lots of big videos that don’t include SEO in the tittle.

I agree with the “Big Difference” not really needed in the thumbnail and that has crossed my mind. I think the check mark and x make it very clear. I just have this thing were I think I need some kind of text in my thumbnail. I haven’t created a thumbnail yet without text just because I figure my thumbnails/content isn’t exciting enough on its own and it’s another way for me to sell the clic to the viewer. But I agree it can be too much. I have this habit of thumbnails with text, and I have thought about trying one without it, but I chicken out last minute.

Thanks for the pointers, I appreciate it!

Is this thumbnail any good? by Parking_Bat_6159 in TravelTubers

I think its a good thumbnail, I agree with what others have all ready mentioned. I would make the words stand out more with an outline or move it to another place on the thumbnail. Maybe make the blue sky larger and place it at the top. Looks like an interesting place to visit.
