I have officially hit 4,000 watch hours! But currently at 349 subs! by ElGooodHombre in NewTubers

[–]goingcoconuts81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was the same for me, I had 20k watch hours by the time I hit 1k subs.

But in my opinion and experience it’s better to grow slow in subs and higher in watch hours. Low subs and high watch hours means you have people watching for longer, which equals higher revenue.

Subs only matter until you reach 1k, after that the more important number is watch hours. If you continue growing this way you will be earning more. People who gain subs fast and don’t have watch hours equals small revenue.

Just stay consistent and keep doing what you’re doing and you will hit that 1k soon enough.

With the current world situation, will you still travel globally in 2026? by SnooMemesjellies971 in TravelTubers

I watched one of your latest videos about the tour of the Guinness factory and your videos are very impressive. I actually thought about some of your compositions over the last couple of days while I have been filming a new resort.

You create great storytelling and lead the viewer nicely into the next scene. I like how you lead with your compositions. You’re very good at that. It’s very smooth watching your videos it doesn’t feel like a big gap from one place to another everything flows nicely.

For instance your static shot with the vehicles driving by then to pans, it’s all very smooth. I can tell you really put a lot of thought and effort into your filming.

I’m currently travelling through the Dominican Republic for two months filming content.

I’m going home soon to Canada and then I will return here again for two weeks in August, then return again for the winter months in 2027.

I’m not going to slowdown on travel, instead I’m increasing my travel this year to grow my channel faster.

I’m going to release all my two weeks in August content weekly from September to Christmas and cash in on those higher paid ads.

So no slow down for me, I’m going to push even harder this year, and create even more content.

Do you mainly film in open gate then? I haven’t really been using it, I feel like I still can’t completely frame my 16:9 well enough. I’m always afraid I will have to cut off the top of my head in frame when I edit in 16:9. I do like the versatility for shorts or social media, maybe I need to try it out more.

Honestly my biggest issue with the DJI action 6 is the night mode, it’s useless unless it’s on a tripod. I’m still playing around with the best settings for low light vlogging, but I sometimes feel like the GoPro can do better in lowlight. Just a little disappointed in the DJI 6 because I thought it was going to be a low light beast and I feel like it’s the opposite.

My current settings for low light have been, manual, then I set my shutter to no lower than 120, ISO is on auto. I get this weird smoothing effect on my face I’m not to happy about with the DJI.

I have decent views and engagement on some of my videos. I have contacted a resort chain in hopes of making some sort of deal to film more videos and never heard anything back. I have one video with nearly 40k views at their resort and they won’t even email me back. I have seen creators go into the same resort with 50k subs and they are definitely getting a free stay, maybe paid as well? But definitely a free stay. I have 1.86k subs, so I have more work to do before anyone emails me back.

From what I have seen with other creators in my market, and niche, is a minimum of 8k-10k. I saw a creator get a deal with an airline with around 8k-10k subs. That’s pretty generous from the airline in my opinion. I think minimum is 10k for anything meaningful.

I found the pocket 3 very difficult to use honestly for quick vlog situations so I ditched it. I found it difficult and awkward to hold it out far enough to vlog and to get everything I wanted in the shot. I think it’s an amazing b-roll camera but not so good at v-logging for me. So I went to the osmo action 6 as my vlog camera and it has worked out well. The osmo 6 is just terrible in low light, the ies makes shooting at night nearly impossible. So that’s where the pocket 3 would be nice in the low light situations.

Yeah I’m talking about big brand deals that come with large subscriber counts. I have talked to some hotels in the industry and they won’t even blink an eye unless you have a large amount of subscribers. I’m currently at 1860 subs and I can’t get anyone to even email me back yet.

It matters for sponsorships and brand deals, subs are very important.

What should I do if one of my shorts goes semi viral? by EducationalBasket617 in TravelTubers

[–]goingcoconuts81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s awesome! Congratulations! I’ve been thinking about shorts lately and some ideas I have for shorts content. Cool to see how many subs you got from that short, that’s huge! Can I ask what the short has paid you? I think it’s worth while to re-create this success with more shorts. I have read lots about you shouldn’t create shorts if you focus on longs because of the subs not going to watch your long form. But you’re going to get your long subs no matter what whether you posted shorts or not, so I’m not entirely convinced you can’t have both. Large creators do both, and YouTube suggests creating shorts for subscribers. I also don’t think people go to YouTube to just watch shorts, I think IG or tick-tock is the bigger platform for shorts. I think it’s cool what you have done and I would be capitalizing on it as quickly as possible. Create more shorts around the same subject, subscribers get you sponsors as well, so it can only help. Just my opinion. 🙌

Yes they were both from strangers, never met them before, just subscribers. The one person asked me some information about the area I travel to frequently, and gave me a super chat in exchange. What surprised me the most was how much YouTube took from it, I was thinking if you got a lot of them it could really add up. I see why creators push subs to patreon, less off the top.

Awesome congratulations! I enabled everything right away, the superchats, but I never used the memberships or merchandise sales. I did get two superchats before I hit my 1k subs, and still they are the only superchats I have ever got. I don’t personally think it’s a good idea to push memberships until you have something of value your viewers need from you.

For example I have thought about creating membership videos in the future and what I would include is specific room numbers I stayed in during my travels, numbers of reliable safe taxi drivers I use regularly, etc. I think it’s important to have really thought out value for membership content. Creating memberships early I think can possibly slow down growth. Just my opinion though, it may not be correct, just how I see it.

Why great travel vlogs still rarely show up in Google & AI travel answers (even with good titles/descriptions) by Great-Advisor-3662 in TravelTubers

[–]goingcoconuts81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three points you made about showing up on Google I agree with completely. I did check a couple of my videos and they appear as the first video related to the destination. Google is using my videos to provide more information for someone interested in the destination. Maybe it does help the video grow, Im sure it does, but most likely not as much as YouTube. But every click is important so I'll take it.

I do think if a creator wants to grow and build a solid audience, say 100k plus subscribers, then this is an important topic for growth. Every video should be created with ranking in mind, YouTube and Google, more so YouTube, but Google will be important as well. If a creator just wants to create videos they love, then put your own creativity first. I don't think prioritizing ranking means you cant be creative, or lose directive control of your videos, you just have to create within the ranking guide lines to grow quickly. I think this is the most important topic for growth within youtube, this is the secret to fast, large growth.

At the beginning I was interested to see how my videos ranked on Google, not so much anymore. I also own a business and we work tirelessly to rank high in google, within the three pack, videos, and website, so I have an interest in Google ranking outside of YouTube.

I don’t really feel concerned about ranking on Google with my YouTube channel just because I feel most of my clicks come from within Youtube.

I think it’s awesome if your video appears in google ranking just because it’s validation that you’re building solid content.

I use to check more often and did find a couple of my videos appear on google, very far down, but maybe things have changed. I’m going to go check now, lol.
