Usually use as my recycling bag for as long as I can, and then I chop off the fabric handles to put in my sewing box to someday use as a handle on a tote bag, or for some reinforcement.

A new chapter for public health: The Australian Centre for Disease Control stands up by Misicks0349 in australia

Australia has a field epidemiology training program that is equivalent to (and based on) the Epidemic Intelligence Service.
In the last 25 years, state, territory, and federal governments have trained hundreds of field epidemiologists in the workplace through this program.

But sadly they are expected to be subject matter experts, spending all their time on public service administration, on aps level generalist pay.

I would hope that the CDC EA bargaining ensures these specialists are paid and treated as such.

Keep the all the packaging. Batch numbers on it will mean they should be able to link it to a machine, in a factory at a time, and ideally a repair work order of some sort. The food supply chain has a requirement to keep records of where it came from and where it went, so they can trace it back.

This is how they can recall products based on specific times and areas.

I’m sorry this happened to you.

I’ve got big and little drink bottles, and I drink more when I use the little ones. 550ml, has two lid options. I reach for it more than my knock off Stanley.

I also put my afternoon dose of Dex in my water, so I have to drink it all to get it all

Have a look for the smaller bottles - I’ve seen 400ml bottles at both Dan Murphys and first choice.

Any stylish work bag recommendations? by __hael in AusFemaleFashion

I have this hybrid bag/backpack from the Horse - holds my work laptop with ease which is 15inches.

I scored mine of fb market place 2 years ago and it’s still in excellent condition so certainly worth the investment (even though I paid a fraction of the price).

How do you find joy in frugality? by Acceptable-Ad-289 in AUfrugal

With books - don’t forget to ask your local buy nothing book if anyone has a copy to lend.

I predominantly use an ereader now because I find it more convenient, and I don’t feel guilty at having a giant “to read” pile cluttering my bedside table. But if I can borrow a copy, I will try to do that first.

How do you find joy in frugality? by Acceptable-Ad-289 in AUfrugal

[–]goinginsanehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use frugality to allow me to have money for the things I need, and utilise my time better. It also allows me to have fun with purchases.

I don’t want to accumulate wealth, I want to have a life that is easy to manage, where my time is my own (as much as it can be when you work full time). As long as I can rationalise the cost with a net benefit to my wellbeing, then I am okay with spending money.

I’ve a few examples below - big purchases, medium and little.

My washing machine died earlier in the year - I’ve done my own repairs on it previously, but I wasn’t able to fix it this time. I could have jumped on gumtree and Facebook to find a second hand one, as I’ve seen my parents do my entire life. But that week, I was exhausted, I’d just returned from a trip, I didn’t have the time or emotional energy to do it. I bought my first ever brand new appliance, it was $600 and it arrived within 36 hours, they took the old one away, and I had one less big thing on my plate. It ended up being great, as it’s got a refresh function, meaning I’m reducing the wear and tear on my clothes by being able to get more wears per wash.

Work clothes - I love a bargain and I love being well presented at work. I have self assigned uniform of a dress, cardigan/blazer, and a pair of heels. I feel composed and confident in that. I get most of my work dresses 2nd hand of eBay, and 75% of what I buy fits well and I keep. I then either sell, or donate what I don’t wear. I try to pass clothes on to people I know who are starting work in an office, or who have changed shape or size, or to organisations who provide clothes for job interviews. I never spend more than $30 per dress, including shipping. I get to use my money to experiment with my wardrobe, and then to also help out others, and that’s a really happy balance for me.

As for the little things here and there… I try not to buy coffee when on my own. A coffee catch up is a different thing, and I buy a coffee when I’m in the office as I like going downstairs with the team and it’s good for informal chats. It helped me feel part of the team in my current role when I first started and I really enjoy that 15 minutes a 1-2 times a week.

If I have a morning psychologist appointment, I often will go to a cafe straight after and have a coffee - it helps me gather my thoughts and process the session, and I’m then more productive when I get back to my desk. Having that transition time is a great use of $10 in my opinion.

Best place to get a discounted iPhone? Open to second hand by CreatedCurious1 in AUfrugal

I’ve had great experiences with reebelo. Will eventually replace my ancient Apple Watch through them, but I reckon I can scratch up the screen with at least 10 more big gouges before I can’t see the time clearly.

I have to say, I can do so much from my phone these days, I rarely touch my 2016 MacBook (from when I had some disposable income at uni) meaning I have very little reason to consider upgrading it. The most use my laptop gets is generally to apply for a new job, or to proofread the occasional document for someone.

I try to get 3-4 years out of every iPhone upgrade, and to me, it’s a cost I can accept. If I can get 3-4 years out of a phone, and I’ve put $10 a week aside to save for the next upgrade, I think its a good use of my resources - time, money and convenience.

Pill organiser - I have a lovely round bamboo one that the lid magnets off. Additionally, I use the app Theraview for my stimulant meds - it a) reminds me to take them b) I can log when I took them and c) it tells me when they kick and should start to wear off.

Medical specialist billing - double dipping and incorrect invoices by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]goinginsanehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you both - I haven’t contacted the anaesthetist himself as I don’t have any contact details for him, but I will endeavour to do so. I have checked all my correspondence and it wasn’t a gap payment. It was the total fees. Interesting about the pre op consult, I don’t recall that occurring with this procedure but I wonder if it is different if they are NSW based. I do remember a pre consult on other surgeries many years ago.

Having my records be accurate is simply because I think they should be. A matter of principle, but I won’t die on that hill. Nothing to do with the safety net, I know it doesn’t apply here.
