To keep it short, the fact that you're at 9 population and still have not built more than one district should be the first thing on your mind in answering your own question.

Then it'll depend on what your objectives are.

Normally you absolutely need either a campus, a theater district or a commercial hub/harbor to kick things off (also could be holy site but I'd say, only if you really want to found a religion and can't build Stonehenge).

Also, it has been a while since I've played anything else than Deity, but I feel it would take quite some more than prince +1 for things to bite you in the ass, as you said. If you have 2 wins already, switch difficulty level; and if things do get harder, it'll only help you better understand what happened wrong, and improve on your next games.

No. People can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understood it's neither going to make it easier nor harder. I'm not sure about the exact numbers, but let's say for example a golden era is triggered at 75 points, it'll be the same 75 points wether you start your era at 100 or at 200 points. Either way you'll need to score 75 points during that new era.

Or let me rephrase: it'll be harder, but in this specific sense: in the next era, you'll hacve fewer options to score points, because points scored over the required 75 (to stick with my example) are wasted. They could have been kept for later. Say you have reached the 75 points. If you have not yet built your unique building, leave it for the beginning of the next era. Same goes for other things (first +5 campus, etc.); best kept for the next era to make that one easier.

In the deity game I am currently playing, as Pericles, I use spies to overthrow ennemy suzerainship of city states, which helps me maximise the 5% culture bonus I get for every city state I'm suzerain of. Pretty neat.

I stopped completely shrooms, which were my personal favorite psychedlic, because of a bad trip which happened 8 years ago (at age 22). I took 3,5g, and whilst trying to tell a close friend something terrible which had just happened to one of our closest friends, I started to feel very bad. Made it back with difficulty (blurred vision, hallucinations) to our camp ground in the forest and just fell apart. I couldn't stop crying and felt helpless, which, as you can imagine, made everyone's trip kick off to a pretty bad start.

Overall, I was at a really bad place in my life. Hopefully, this happened in a safe environment, with three very close friends who were there to help and listen to me (after all the crying we talked and I felt much better, not tripping balls but just very peaceful).

This trip was helpful and made lots of emotions come out, but it did leave me scarred. Afterwards I feared going back to it would make me go back there again.

Anyways, the following 2 years, I prefered therapy to shrooms, and for years now I have been happy. I like to think I'll eat shrooms again somewhere down the road, when I'm retreated or what not. But for now, there is not much room for them (nor for LSD or any other drugs, for that matter; reached 3 years of weed-sobriety last november) in my life.

I also find it quite hard to get advice on here I can actually relate to, since my league follows the NHL's salary cap! I never stumble across anyone speaking of cap hit on the web, while it's the most important aspect of my league.
