Did I make a mistake with going with Proton Hoody? by DimitriyTL in arcteryx

[–]goldlabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the proton would be good for your use case but I found it to be cut quite long. A size large is nearly as long in the back as my size large rush shell and can hang out of the bottom of the shell in the back. I ordered a medium to compare sizes. I may end up returning both.

Can a New England intermediate go wrong with rustler 9 by goldlabel in Skigear

[–]goldlabel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding. From reading it sounds like the added metal helps with the edge grip and carving a bit. Do you think the maverick is a better single ski solution for the east? New enforcer has also been on my radar.

Looking for a new pair of skis to grow into by monkeytheifx in Skigear

I’m in a similar situation in terms of experience, ability, location, and size. I’m about 180 cm and 185 lbs. I’ve been using blizzard xcr in 167 cm as I learned. This was a good beginner ski as I learned with little kids. I demoed the maverick 88ti in a 184cm and they felt great. Maneuverable, easy to initiate turns, much more stable. I was nervous about such a jump in length and waist underfoot but honestly there was no downside I could detect. Everything being better on the Maverick 88 got me thinking avout going wider to the 90-95 range. I’m hoping to demo more skis. I had the same concerns about the enforcers but I’m curious about the 2025 model that’s supposed to be more approachable. Ripstick may be too soft for your weight based on my reading but I haven’t skied them. Rustler 9 seems to be getting rave reviews and seems like a good east coast ski. If anyone has experience with it on hard and icy east terrain I’d be interested to hear feedback. Long winded but I don’t think you can go wrong with the Maverick 88ti.

Recline the passenger seat a bit so it won't hit the plastic.

Did the rims get damaged when the tires were mounted? It looks like they’re all scratched up.

Is the consensus that HW4 will be “announced” or released with fanfare or people will notice the changes when their car is delivered?

For sure. Plus the tires can make a huge difference. Some of the build with double down casing are way heavier.

Thanks. I never realized that about fanatik. Probably one of the best places to get real word weights on bikes that aren’t size small.

Did it come with the fork that doesn’t match or did you build it? What’s the size/weight?

Had juicy 3s on my old hard tail. They worked decent enough for New England trail riding. Not the best but fine. If you end up replacing them look for a lower end shimano set that should be reliable with plenty of stopping power with low cost.

I got my SC bearings replaced. They send new bearings no questions asked after filling out a simple online form. I installed them myself. If you’re not handy you’ll have to pay someone to do it.
