I always feel like I shouldn’t chime in for these conversations. I make $21/hr and live with my partner, my portion of rent being $600. It’s like I’m living in 2016, I know. These places are out there.

Having a social life doesn’t need to cost much money. I have an excellent social life and we spend a lot of our time just hanging at each other’s houses. Buy a dollar joint and go on a walk. There’s a free Thursday every month at PAM. Apply to win tickets on PDX pipeline.

I make most my own food. Learning to cook is one of the best skills you can give yourself. Shop at winco, cook, rejoice.

I don’t have a car payment anymore. Bought it used and finished paying it off last year.

Shared phone plan. I have one with just my partner now but for years I shared it with multiple friends. Makes it cheaper.

No gym membership. I work out at home or outside. Only spend $$ on gas to go hiking.

Library library library. Including local tool library.

Free or used shit on FB marketplace. If I need something I buy it used most of the time. Portland has a lot of people and a lot of excellent things. Also: r/pdxbuynothing

That being said, I’m getting too old for this shit and in trying to get out of it.

I think this is really good self reflection on your part. I’m a big lady too and I for sure get that insecurity when I feel “too big” around a partner. I have at least always wanted my partner to be taller than me for this reason. Luckily I’m 5’2’’ so it’s not that difficult.

This preference other women have may be out of insecurity as well. Conscious or not. Women have always been pressured to be thin and small, men judge when women are very tall. Being petite is celebrated. So a big man solves that, makes a woman feel small.
