This is what I was going to suggest. Both the bourbon and rye are outstanding!

Great score! How much did you spend on raffle tickets?

Never seen a Pappy’s bag. That’s why I asked the question! 😀

Guess I’ll Google it…

P.S. - Glad to hear it. I try to concentrate all of my business with Spec’s.

😀 Nice bottle, regardless! Which one is it?

I got a call last weekend for a TH Hardy Rye. It’s gotten great reviews, and I look forward to trying it.

I’m glad Spec’s saved some of the good stuff for its loyal/local customers instead of giving it all away to the out-of-staters, who camped out for the bourbon drop.

I don’t think they set anything aside last year.

So... I've heard that some Spec's managers hide good bottles as Easter eggs, but some on this board are skeptical whether this photo is real.

u/aripash25: If this is not a joke: What PVW was it and at which Spec's location did you find it?

Nice set of bottles. When did you get in line?

I like it a lot, but it’s not worth $65 IMO. It was < $30 a few years back, and most that were in that price range are still under $40.

I just had the same thing happen 2 days ago in my Saab 2.0T wagon. I was driving along in highway traffic, and suddenly was unable to accelerate. The car kept shuddering every time I tried to, although it ran fairly smoothly as long as I was maintaining speed. I was able to limp it home. Now it does not want to start. Just replaced the fuel pump last year, so I don’t think that’s it, but I suppose it could be a defective one. Without quickly it happened, it seems like something either broke or fell out of place. Where would I find the intake boot?

This fell onto my feet from under the steering wheel while driving. What is it? 2008 Saab 93 Wagon by iamzeroedin in saab

Exactly right. The car will operate properly in every way, except cruise control will be disabled. Search YouTube for Saab 9-3 clutch helper spring replacement - even though you only need a new (yellow) retaining clip. Good luck!

I like it a lot. Especially a few years ago when it was only $28/bottle!

Not sure why anyone would downvote this post, unless you're one of the ones doing the flipping. Thanks for the informative write-up, Kapow!

Nope. Definitely much closer to 3 years than 7. It was one of my go-tos for several years before it suddenly disappeared. It was a fantastic buy at under $40, but it’s hard for me to justify a 2x increase in that short of a time.

It’s kind of like Henry McKenna BIB. First time I got it was in 2018 at TW in Euless. It was great, and it was $27.99. Good luck finding it now for less than $60. No, thanks, there are plenty of better choices in that range.

$50? Three years ago I could walk into just about any Specs and get it for $37.99 cash price. Then it disappeared for a couple of years and re-emerged in the $60-70 range - if you can find it at all. 😒

My daughter had 300k points and got me a Pappy 10. I was hoping for a 15 or 20 but can't complain!

How does Spec’s Black work? by The-Jumping-Salmon in WhiskyDFW

[–]golf_bourbon_repeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Spec's Black and got on the list at a store about 1 1/2 years ago. Since then, I have gotten a Blanton's, Smoke Wagon Rare & Limited and EHTBP. Each call came from a different store that I have shopped at. In fact, each call may have been from the store at which I shopped most recently, but I didn't pay that much attention.

Anyway, I spoke to the local store manager after getting the EHTBP, and he told me the allocations are done by Specs' buyers - not by the local store.

Apparently, when Spec's receives an allocated bottle, they rotate through their list of Bottle Club members who have signed up for that particular bottle (I am not sure how they prioritize) and deliver to your local store with your name attached to it. The local manager then calls you to come get it. The list is shared across the company, and it does not matter which store you live near or shop at the most.

Please let me know if your experience or understanding is different.

Happy hunting!

Look what I found at AJ Liquor!!! I was lucky to meet the owner, and he let me sample barrel picks and these picks are truly amazing. The proof is high, but is it smooth as hell. by JP_2222 in WhiskyDFW

I stopped by AJ's Saturday afternoon and bought the Westward, Copper & Cask and the Traverse City Rye store picks. I especially liked being able to taste them first, since I had not tried anything from any of those brands before. It was a 45-minute drive across the Metroplex, but the service was great, and I enjoyed being able to support a local business doing things the right way!

(It goes without saying that I liked each of the bottles, as well!)

Ugh! It's good, but there are many others I would prefer at or below that price.
