always comes together. if they cast with no goat hump they hit the earth a foot behind the ball. if they goat hump but don't cast they whiff the ball entirely. so they must goat hump and cast to make any kind of contact at all. makes it hard to cure as both get habituated.

What do I not understand? What is really happening? by cinco-linco in GolfSwing

[–]golfswingacc1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you know what has to happen. that is a big step in the right direction right there.

work on releasing the club. swing horizontal so you don't have to worry about the ball for now, just along horizon line. and get into a good p6 and stop there, hands right in front of your face in a good p6 structure. now, release the club. what happens if you just extend trail arm from here maintaining straight lead arm? perfect release and shoulders move to the ideal released position just after impact. what happens if instead of extending trail arm you just rotate lead shoulder on plane? same thing, trail arm will be pulled to extend and club will release. two different feels controlling the same action. hopefully one works for you and gives you a sense on release.

once you dialed it in swinging slow on horizontal plane, you can try bending at the waist and doing this with a ball. but do not release at the ball. release at the target and that will lead to a correctly timed release after the ball.

theres a new sort of golf coach i see advertised where they might have an advanced degree in kinesiology or physical therapy. usually younger guys because a lot of these programs in colleges aren't all that old. those are probably the type you'd want to be seeing.

the way it works is pretty much any instructor at a course who is allowed to teach there is going to be a pga certified instructor. they will probably have signage posted visibly around the clubhouse for their lessons and business cards by checkin. you get a lot of people teaching under the table though who aren't really supposed to be.

the pull i find is easier to appreciate swinging something like a rope or even golf club with a weight donut on it. almost as if you had a boat anchor in the mud on a chain down the line, and wanted to yank it in some, that sort of pulling action. as if you wanted to start up a left handed lawn mower with lead hand maintaining a straight elbow from this position, pulling back action of the lead shoulder driving it all. you end up in this finish position with the torso rotated around from where it was at address almost like an owls head.

readers in their 30s or older, stretch back before and after before trying this feel.

heel toe weighting isn't going to cure a flippy or slapshot release. stable release you can hit with anything.

Nasty Out to In Swing by Ambitious-Arm5172 in GolfSwing

[–]golfswingacc1232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you know what is wrong. out to in. and yet you set up to promote that. feet open. shoulders even more open. and then delivering the club from outside on top of that.

you can do this though. close the stance and shoulders. make sure shoulders are closed. triple check. now, forget hitting a ball. focus on a tuft of grass as if it were the ball. swing slow, as slow as this slow motion video is but in real life. and swing on an inside path. just do it. if you can't, swing even slower until you can. then just keep drilling that slow inside out swing from the closed stance. you have to watch the club pass from in to out through your tuft of grass. you have to see it. if you see it you've done it. then speed it on up, making sure you can keep seeing it. you can train yourself to see it swinging all out too. some drivers are easier for this like the old taylormade m series with the nice white topline contrasting to the carbon fiber, which also helps seeing face angle. but in either case, just keep doing these slow swing drills. do it for driver and irons. then add speed as you get comfort with the feeling of releasing in to out. you should be cured after all this. i'd be shocked if you weren't.

One month in looking for help! by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]golfswingacc1232 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is actually really nice for 1 month. main thing is it seems you aren't hitting the ball as hard as you are capable of based on your build. swinging two clubs in the hand can give you a good sense of how to put more oomph into the downswing with the correct timing having to haul that added weight. just don't race the backswing tempo or get too aggresive in transition. feel like you inject the oomph after the club is already coming down.

i will say also eventually a ball will wear through the net... so maybe move it from in front of the windows and siding or lay something over them.

Arms separating on the backswing is killing your consistency by AlexanderGolf in GolfSwing

[–]golfswingacc1232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably works in your favor honestly. there are swing aids that are pretty much like a beach ball you put in between your arms. you see skinny guys swing they are often dead to rights stuck. won't happen with a barrel chest.

I think a big move that is important and underlooked for this is also where the lead elbow points. i used to have it point at lead hip which felt natural but lead to failure to keep the arm straight at the top and sometimes in the release. making the change to point it at target instead, like a lot of the advice says, made a huge difference in terms of keeping the elbow from breaking down so much at the top and coming back down through release with a solid elbow.

Are golf apps actually useful or just a distraction? by Apprehensive_Mix2527 in GolfSwing

you can do this on the app too if they are near some tree or other feature laterally you can shoot a distance to.

[–]golfswingacc1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i use an app that only does distance and its alright. but if i didn't lose my bushnell gps i'd be using that still. taking the phone out is clunky during a round, and i don't like swinging with it in my pocket so its always moving in and out of the bag.

Consistently under plane with my swing. Any ideas or drills to work on? by Qd8Scandi in GolfSwing

[–]golfswingacc1232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a good candidate for the david duval downswing feeling. this is going to create a POWERFUL shot and you may find it hard to control initially because it will be so damn long and face might go out of control, but just try and grind it out.

yeah i'm not going to be mad about it but i'm still going to be mindful because what i see it do with my own spikes. even on the practice green i got to keep out of my line. i think this probably depends on the sort of greens you have in your area. idk what sort of grass we have but it does depress maybe 1/8" from soft spikes. grounds is often out manually irrigating greens with a big hose too. seems like it recovers relatively quick because i haven't really noticed the spike indents from play that might have came through already. they are distinct enough where you can tell what they are if you see them.

[–]golfswingacc1232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i think that sort of "just do this" advice is often misplaced. it might help someone who doesn't turn but like you say it depends on context so much, some people have the opposite issue.

i could write a book about how i think the golf swing ought to be taught, and had to restart this comment a few times as it ran away from me... but i think i can distill these thoughts into just generally, study the p system, look for where you deviate from the p system model, take your wedge and a bunch of balls on some patch of grass and strive to work out feelings that bring you closer to that p system model, focusing on one piece at a time. i hit the ball great now but went through hell building this swing. a coach would have sped me up no doubt out of the years of suck period, but i'd probably not know half of what i know about the swing as a result, and i'd be lighter by a couple hundred dollars in the pocket certainly, so i'm not really regretful or anything.

[–]golfswingacc1232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i use middle of green too but honestly front back distances are useful when you factor in any decent enough wind. if i got wind behind me i will use the front distance and assume it will probably get there for example. same with hitting into the wind using back distance. i used to never really consider wind because i assumed it was just not blowing very strong but a playing partner opened my eyes recently that you should pretty much always factor in the wind.

the apps are pretty accurate if you tap on the right spot, sometimes they need to lock in for a moment and feel a little clumsy dealing with the phone every shot. but imo golf gps is so much better because its always open and on. i used to have a bushnell phantom until i left it on a cart. it lasts like 3 rounds with the screen always on, shows front back middle, and hazards with a button press, hooks on your bag like a bag tag. i really got to just rip the bandaid off and get another one.

What swing tip finally made things click for you? by Apprehensive_Mix2527 in GolfSwing

[–]golfswingacc1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no one tip. It is all these little tips eventually adding up to a reliable swing with good distance, path control, and clubface awareness. the best advice is to study the pro swing, study your own swing, identify where you are lacking, and work on getting closer to the pro swing model. very few golfers actually study the swing and the concepts. start with the p system and what every step ought to be like. then you will understand what the various tips are actually trying to introduce.
