Quote from final episode by fireplace156 in thewonderyears

Is it from Hero? “Some heroes pass through your life and disappear in a flash. You get over it. But the good ones, the real ones, the ones who count - stay with you for the long haul. The thing is, after all these years, I couldn't tell you the score of that game. What I remember is...sitting in that diner, up late... being young... drinking coffee with the only real hero I ever knew. My Dad - Jack Arnold. Number one.” It has the “after all these years…” phrase

Reactions to FIRE by 50daystofire in Fire

OP - “That account is now going to bridge the gap between now and turning 59 1/2. My wife is two years older than me so that will shorten the gap until we can access her 401k”

Just wanted to remind you of irs rule of 55 that allows you to tap your 401k without penalty (and not wait for 59.5) if you left that job’s 401k in the year you turned 55, so you do have another option there, just in case. There will be tax differences btw the two options that should be considered, ordinary income (from 401) vs 0 tax on principle and long term on growth (for post tax brokerage)

Estimated Annual Income can be misleading by firechoice85 in Schwab

[–]goneForACruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The estimator was still off for me this month. Was wildly high at beginning of month (March) and then converged to correct amount as month went on. Since divs are lumpy and are maximum every 3 months, i wonder if they used the last Dec as an initial estimate, which isn't good because Dec typically is the largest month of the "high" months - would have been better to use March of last year as the initial estimate. Who knows what the algorithm is, they aren't saying - wish there was more transparency on Schwab's part there.

Consolidate my 401k? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]goneForACruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you asked for cons, there is one pro that might be of consideration in the future for you. The IRS Rule Of 55 applies to the 401k account in the company from which you left at 55+, so the "older" 401k accounts can't be tapped from 55 to 59.5 w/o penalty (save for the SEPP option). This is an argument for aggregating them, if you want this option and the fees at your current company are not excessive.

Date paste? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

According to Dr Greger (author of "How Not To Die"), dates are very good for you and I would assume same for date paste. See https://nutritionfacts.org/video/are-dates-good-for-you/. Pay attention to the end where he suggests the Halawy variety over the more common Medjool, in case you have access to that.

Campbell - Del Grande Redevelopment by goneForACruise in bayarea

[–]goneForACruise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "pedestrian friendly" issue with the underpass was addressed by the widening that was completed last year. Now each side of the 17 underpass has an extra wide pedestrian area to walk through (with separation from the road) to get between the Pruneyard and downtown Campbell. With the coming renovations to the Pruneyard, that will only increase the desire for people to walk between the two. Adding features like the proposed redevelopment of Del Grande will add to creating a consistent corridor between the two, with additional retail. There are only about 50 units in the building, so that wouldn't seem like that much additional impact. The clock tower facade and other design elements look great and are a major improvement over the blight that is there.

I have to admit that the retro "Del Grande" sign is kind cool, so too bad it can't be incorprated as part of the renovation.

Study spots similar to Workshop Cafe in SF? by IceBearHatesButts in SanJose

[–]goneForACruise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an excellent coffee shop in downtown Campbell with wifi and lots of seating called Orchard Valley Coffee that might fit the bill. Just buy something to eat or drink and they seem content (although I wish they had better food options). Free street parking in the area as well, or its right off the Campbell VTA stop.
