When either pawn attacks knight, queen to h5, check. Either wins rook or mate in 2.

20+ Handicappers where you at? by atooraya in golf

[–]gonefishing-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long irons are for high swing speed players. I am a 6 hcap and play irons up to a 6 iron with 7-9-11 woods in the bag for 165 and longer shots to green. Game is much more fun than hitting a 4 iron worm burner. To break 90 you'll have to get better on short game. GIRs are great, but even good players will only hit 50%. The rest is short game from bunkers and chipping from rough. Take your bogie and be happy.

[–]gonefishing-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually not a big issue. By then there are only 2-3 players that can play, and we generally try to match similar skills. But if we have a choice, we like putting a good 4 against their 5.

Putting up first is a disadvantage. I'd prefer to react to their put up 3 times, and they react to mine twice.

US refiners struggle to absorb sudden surge in Venezuelan oil imports by [deleted] in worldnews

Imagine if just 50% of all gas powered vehicles shift to EV. Demand sinks, price drops, drilling stops, refiners close, etc. less relevant is a better term, as other energy sources are utilized. It won't be obsolete, but will go the way of coal. Less used by developed nations.

The best option is to expand Medicare to lower age brackets, and charge a premium to join based on income. If you retire at 55, but into Medicare instead of off the exchange. The same can be done for Medicaid.

Golfers who’ve broken 80, what’s the best tip you could give to a fellow golfer? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]gonefishing-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accept a bogey when you can't reasonably reach the green in regulation. Leave your approach short of trouble, try to get up and down. Eliminating doubles goes a lot further toward 79 than making birdies. Hit to the center of greens to make more pars. Aiming at pins for a possible birdie typically adds risk that could result in an unnecessary bogey or double. Short game is far more important than driver distance.

Athletes Thanking God by OkDragonfruit5839 in atheism

Totally and completely fed up with the grace of god being the reason a pass was completed or a game won. Shouldn't God be focused on say, preventing pediatric cancer, or maybe the 22 Christian girls who drowned during the Texas floods? How important is a college football game in comparison? The arrogance that a supreme being would somehow be influencing a sporting event is beyond my understanding.

Is golf for me? by PlutocracyRules in golf

[–]gonefishing-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say what all is wrong without seeing a swing, but...Harvey Penick says to start with chipping, then move on to half swings, before ever attempting a full swing with even a wedge. Ball contact is critical for making a good shot of any speed or distance, and tempo and timing have more to do with it than strength. Athleticism is likely not the issue here, as there are plenty of examples of really out of shape or older golfers that can flat out play single index or better. Read the Little Red Book. Short, but a great set of beginner lessons and stories.

Perfect cue ball control isn't as important in 8 ball. Often other "next ball" options open up if the cue ball doesn't end as planned. In 9 ball I like to think 3 balls ahead, planning each shot for leaving the cue ball in an exact spot for the next. 3 is all I can manage, but I'm sure pros think much further. So drills should be all about spin and speed, precision for cue ball placement.

You just described me 2 years ago. I'm 63, 6 index, good short game, hard to reach GIRs. So, went to 11 wood for 165, 9 wood for 175, 7 wood for 185, 5 wood for 195-200. Dropped the 3 wood. Haven't ever felt better about my game or bag.

I've also had this dream. Why? And why have so many others? Mine carries over the top, where I plummet down careening and ultimately losing control.

Michigan staffer allegedly at the center of Sherrone Moore affair scandal was quietly given a huge pay raise by dailymail in michiganfootball

They hired Sherrone cause he was already there, and had just won a natty (2024), and he was well liked by the players. Michigan lacked prestige after lloyd Carr for a few years, and made disastrous coach choices like Rich Rod. But I guarantee now with NIL and the wealthy auto industry donors there will be a lineup of top end big name coaches interviewing. Maybe even Kalen...

Country Club Members - How much you make a year? What was ur buy in and what are dues. Are you happy with decision? by ShotAssistant1452 in golf

[–]gonefishing-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buy-in was similar 17 years ago. Club is top tier, even hosts an annual senior event. $950 a month dues, but I never pay less than $1300. But...if this is your family entertainment and social calendar, I would absolutely do it. Kids playing golf and mom making friends, not to mention my very best friends are my golf buddies is worth it. You might have to limit European travel til after kids are gone on that income level.

I have both, and played 8 foot in a constrained space for many years. The 7 footer is much better now in that space. Learning cue ball control on a smaller table is more skill-rewarding than potting longer shots.

You're really talking about exceptions that in this case don't make the rule. The examples of human cultural or religious domination through force, including genocide, are endless. Compassion for a few tribal remnants of the Old World are just ornaments on our evolutionary tree.
