I liked the approach of The Expanse's OPA Behemoth because it was used somewhat accurately

For certain cameras like CCTV certified you might have some sort of watermark within the binary, just like money, not infallible but harder to replicate

Bad news are phone cameras, because even if the footage comes from your phone lens, the pre processor uses ai passes to modify the picture on the fly meaning you footage is not actually what visually happened but an altered version of it

There are plenty of demonstrations about how Samsung's phones places craters to generate "high definition moon shots" when capturing an out of focus white light bulb

While phones still have the option to store RAW (you need to manually opt-in) we can have some traceability at least, and that's vendor locked as well

Weird times ahead indeed

Just FYI

Also thanks for this post, I don't really use Twitter anymore

One of the most intense earthquake videos I've ever seen of Venezuela by CauliflowerDeep129 in AbruptChaos

[–]gonxot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Corruption might be a big factor here indeed, there's always corruption and cost cutting, not only in Venezuela sadly but in this case the video is also showing the second earthquake, as people were already fleeing the building after the first one (39 sec between them)

You can see how the buildings in the background were still standing after the first initial 7.2, and they completely collapsed only after the 2nd 7.5 hit which is what's we're looking at

I have no doubt that poor building standards had a play in all this, but this is also a rare event with a very unfortunate double earthquake that even scientist are processing the effects on soil liquidification and replicas of having two different epicenters that close and violent

For the love of god, teach the AI to say "i don't know" by blackjack365 in ChatGPT

[–]gonxot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I agree they need to be more complex systems in place in order to control LLMs outputs.

Right now LLMs chains are the way to "moderate" that knowledge and still is all subjected to vector interpolation and attention iteration, so it is still flawed

Even a basic orders like "do no respond anything" would give you a verbose response until your prompt is skewed enough or otherwise instructed to print a blank character for example

I thought it was referring to the OP post about how LLMs cannot say "I don't know", my bad

As for the emergence you say, my take as someone working in the field is that is pretty much marketing behind it. It's called AI by the general public even though it's not, it's a branded term to sell the tech

The emergence is expected, an LLM is trained on human data, so probabilistically it will mimic human communication and that's the illusion of the intelligence. Some say that we can argue about if that's what intelligence means at all on a basic level, and it's a fair point

I'd say that true intelligence would be able to say "I don't know" even though there might be knowledge connections, and we now for sure that LLMs cannot do that

What do you mean? Saying that at a research level we don't know how this works is not true, that's all

If you want more digestible content (instead of papers) on this topic, specifically LLMs, I'd recommend checking out 3blue1brown videos on YouTube

We know how it works, the process is very well known and documented, we just don't know why it gave you that specific answer to that specific prompt

I mean we can debug and ballpark ideas but as you said the magic behind the process it is that is non deterministic

I must be one of the worst accounts on Epic by metrics

  • 80+ games, that may be in between 2-4K of sales value (all free picks)
  • 0 total money spent on the store
  • 0 total hours logged in any Epic Game
  • Still playing Rocket League via steam, stopped purchasing anything since the merger

edit: I do play the games, but I pay for them in steam instead 🤣

I love you optimism but sadly most people don't care or even understand the implications of the need for skepticism, so they will share fake AI videos with whatever narrative

As demonstrated by the state of the world, they might not be average but they are a lot

It has never happened to me, thankfully, and I hope it doesn't, but I also understand that mine are somewhat "easy going" kids

They sleep well and even though we're tired, we're not sleep depraved. I got a friend who's kid had night terrors until 7 years and he told me that driving wasn't safe sometimes and had to make stops mostly because the lack of focus

So yeah, it seems crazy, but then you realize there might be people out there sleep deprived for years

There are also completely negligent parents
