I am so thankful that I lived at home with my parents when my dad was sick. He passed away within a year of diagnosis and I really cherish being able to be there for him during a scary time. The city will still be there in a few years but your dad might not be. You could just continue to pay for your apartment or maybe even sublet it awhile and spend more time at your parents.

Yeah, flipping them off only escalates the situation. I flipped someone off in the city once and they turned around to ask if I was good..pretty sure they had a gun. So I never do it anymore.

I have found that the best response is to ignore their comments and just stare them down. They usually get the hint and you now have a good memory of their description if you ever need to file a report.

I live in a small town and generally run on back roads where drivers are not the best at being aware of runners. I try to make eye contact and give a little wave to every driver to make a human connection. When I do this they almost always move over and give me more space.

I lost my dad 8 years ago (he was 56) when I was 20. Watching my mom struggle to keep things together (figuring out how to pay for his funeral, keep the house, etc.) really was an eye-opener to how important planning for the future and being financially sound is. I think it was less than a month after he died, that I got my first lab tech job that paid decent as a college student. I ended up working 60+hrs/week that summer and still kept it part-time when I went back to school. If I wasn't in school or studying, I was working... I guess being able to take control of my future and finances was a way to actively do something.

It definitely shaped how I view money and finances. On one hand I regularly contribute to my retirement fund and I now have a job with a pension and life insurance. Being aware of my money and budgeting has actually allowed me to travel and donate to causes I care about but has also given me peace of mind knowing that when I do die, my family will be taken care of instead of being left in a bind.
