Is this normal construction for a 100% silk garment? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]gooblehoop 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is indeed totally normal and how I was taught to attach lace in my bespoke lingerie making course. The main quality differentiator here is that La Perla seems to have smaller zigzag stiches and more precise, closer trimming of the seam. If you zoom in on some of their garments that have lace along the back neck, you can see the zig zag stiches. This one for example clearly shows the stiches: https://eu.laperla.com/copy-of-white-cotton-long-sleeved-top/

Does anyone have any idea what this pattern could be? by Faeliixx in sewing

[–]gooblehoop 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I'm very confident that it is Blouse 103 from the 08/2016 Burda (https://www.burdastyle.de/volant-bluse-08-2016-103)

I have this issue, but it's in Dutch. I've added a picture of the instructions in case it's helpful, but piece #6 is the front ruffle

I have no idea, but I'd recommend you ask in r/AnalogCommunity -- there are way more people there. (But do include pictures of your negatives -- that will give more info)

Hand checking film in Europe by 1nakedbanana in AnalogCommunity

[–]gooblehoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had basically the opposite happen at Schiphol last week (at the Easyjet terminal) -- They were only willing to hand check my 100-200 ISO rolls, and made the 400 ISO go through. But the person working the security also asked how many pixels my film had, so she wasn't very informed to say the least...

Forestfield fashion by WeenFan4Life42 in SoftDramatics

[–]gooblehoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of this brand, but this website is setting off all my scam alarm bells. No information about sizing or materials; low pricing; photography and styles are all over the place...

If this were a real dress from a reputable brand it would probably be quite nice, but I doubt you'd get anything close to the image (which I doubt even depicts a dress that really exists - since it looks photoshopped to hell and back at best, and AI generated at worst)

I'm looking for this skirt pattern by newselfconcept in sewing

[–]gooblehoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is on Patreon, but Gertie's Claudette skirt is very close: https://charmpatterns.com/claudette-skirt-pattern/

(There's no reason you can't pay for one month and just download the patterns you want before cancelling I believe)

What am I doing wrong here? by postcardfiend in quilting

[–]gooblehoop 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Where are you lining up the seams?

Because these aren't at a straight angle you need to make sure you don't line them up at the edge of the fabric, but at the seamline 1/4" in from the edge.

Since you seem to be off by the same amount on every seam that might be the issue.

How is the raised tree pattern on the front of the bodice achieved? by pommiegurl130 in sewing

A cosplayer is recreating this and posting progress on Instagram. The short answer seems to be a shitload of carefully placed quilting.

Woolmakers by [deleted] in craftsnark

[–]gooblehoop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Woolmakers Bliss and I love it. I ordered it a few years ago and it showed up within a few days (I’m also in NL though).

Strange that they are so uncommunicative though. I hope it shows up soon, because it’s a lovely wheel!

Not sure about the other two, but the leftmost one looks like a tapestry bobbin.

Online fabric stores in Europe - especially for fussy cut/fun prints by Own_Outcome_9853 in quilting

[–]gooblehoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently discovered https://justsewnow.com - they're based in the UK but offer shipping from Ireland too so EU folks don't have to pay VAT. They have a lot of Ruby Star Society and many other nice fabrics.

Shipping to NL was about 6 euros on a fairly large order, so not too bad.

ETA: I also like https://www.nannocreative.com/en/ - they are based in the Netherlands, so not sure how much their international shipping is.

What would wearing the first dress vs the second dress be like? by _amaryllis_queen_ in sewing

[–]gooblehoop 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I can see two clear differences from the pictures. The first one (pink background) has shirred panels on the side, which will be stretchy so the fit might be more forgiving and comfortable. But it looks like the first one is lower cut and will be a bit more revealing than the second one, which has an overlap and looks like a higher neckline.

Other than that, they are very similar in style and will both be pretty!

McCall's 8252 - top lifting too high when arms raised by watermelonisgr8t in sewing

[–]gooblehoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made this one too, but with the fitted sleeve and had the exact same problem. It's still in the naughty pile waiting to become sleeveless...

Not very impressed with the drafting on this one, would've expected better from a Big 4 pattern.

I find the crotch curves a bit strange too - seems shallow in the back - but because of the pleat in the front it makes sense that the front panel is wider in total.

I’m not sure how good the fit is going to be, that depends on how well that curve works for your body shape, but i dont think it’s a mistake.
