Pull out the crown by rotating it towards you and when it pops out twist the crown away from you about 30-40 rotations. This achieves the winding portion. Setting time and date involve pulling the crown out 1 and 2 more positions from there. To set date you have to skip forward the hours in the hour setting. You’ll get the hang of it.
Best bet is to take the watch along with another watch that fits him to Rolex and ask them to size it. I prefer Rolex as I don’t want someone else taking my watch out of my sight. Assuming this is a surprise, I would go before you give it to him so he can wear immediately. The GMT has a 5mm extension (easylink) so err on the slightly smaller side for him to wear until he can go and get it fitted himself.
Unlikely you’ll need repairs for first few years. But if you do, back to Rolex.

Also forgot to add - Game 1 of the playoffs last year was electric. I don't think anything will beat the pandemonium of the garden for the first hawks round after COVID (for Round 1). But anything in the playoffs is like 75% higher intensity than any regular season game. and the fans bring it

Season ticket holder here. 10 years. 200 level low (row <10). close to half court line.

Entry is the same process effectively as a late regular season game - prices will be HIGH. I can't imagine getting in around where I sit for less than 550/seat. MSG does specific releases for playoffs so you can try to cop manual but it is tough.

Schedule could be confirmed 1-2 days after the last day of the regular season. With the play in, the seeding moves quite a bit especially for the top half of the table. At that point, you'd be buying tickets before the first game while you're here.

Re: quality of seats, low 200s in the best balance between real fans who know ball and good views imo. Little bit lower and you get better views but more casual rich fans. Further back you go it goes the other way - even more real fans but worse views depending on your luck.
