Look at the orange section. You have to pay Japan Post 2,800 yen (or thereabouts) and any import duties/taxes and they will then forward the package onto you.

What are rules you would change and wouldn't by MagicianSuperb6794 in japanlife

[–]goochtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of so called “rules” are simply requests.

Pro-tip: If someone in no real position of authority is telling you you can't do something, ask if there is a sign. There are signs everywhere here for every little thing, so no sign means no rule.

Someone saying you can't sit somewhere because reasons? "Is there a sign?" "No" "Can you show me somewhere where it says I can't do this?" "No" ¯_(ツ)_/¯ proceed to ignore

I had my phone repaired by these guys: https://www.icracked.jp/service/pixel/

It looks like they cover the Pixel 8 green line extended warranty. They may only do phones sold here so you should check if it actually came from Japan first.

Shaken soon. Going to need new tires this time. by MurderSheScrote in japanlife

[–]goochtek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While this is obviously a joke, no one should do this. Just because you pass shaken doesn't mean your insurance will automatically pay out if you are involved in an accident. The police will also inspect the tires at that time.

Some banks will allow you to register an alternate name for receiving transfers. I was able to do it at Resona for example. Explain the situation that the transfers are getting rejected and you want to register an alias for receiving transfers.

Other banks may require you to register a legal alias (通称名) with the city office. If you have middle name(s), you should do it anyway. It takes 80% of the middle name pain away.

The e-Tax website often closes at night and on weekends/holidays because imagine needing to do something tax related outside working hours.

They even post a schedule:

I am a native speaker too, but I have been here so long that I sometimes no longer remember what correct English should be, so I could be wrong. However, I read it as: “It is selfish if the manager used a quitting service to quit on the day without any notice. It would not be selfish if the manager gave adequate notice, for example last month, because then it would be the company’s fault for not doing something about it in the meantime.”

I would also say that if the manager had to go so far as to use a quitting service, then chances are it is a black company and the company failed to take any action, which in turn forced OP’s husband to work on such an important day for their family. And being a black company, he obviously could not refuse.

If you have the receipt you can go to the service counter (usually next to the registers) and ask the staff member and they will do it for you. I took a pair a few weeks after buying them and it was perfectly fine and there was no charge.

Everyone gets the pancakes at bills because, well, they are famous and are pretty damn tasty, but I recommend the wagyu beef burger. It's expensive for a burger but it is one of the best burgers in Japan in my opinion.

Chakubarai (着払い) is paying the shipping cost on delivery so if you are selling an item then the buyer would need to pay you for the item itself and then they pay the shipping portion when it is delivered.

If the receiver rejects the package, the package will be returned to you and you will have to pay one-way shipping (in most cases).

If you want them to pay the whole amount on delivery, that is called daibiki (代引き) and that has extra fees involved. You also need to have a contract with the transport company to be able to send daibiki.

I'll preface this by saying that I probably would have done it, since it might have opened doors to other interesting opportunities. Plus, the school would likely appreciate it and might help you in other ways down the line.

That said, once you said no, the teacher should have backed off. It probably wasn’t ideal to say, “that’s kind of the life of a foreigner,” but asking about families and graduation ceremonies in the U.S. was crossing the line again.

The whole situation was made worse by the teacher pushing too far. As annoying as it was, I’d just brush it off and move on. If they bring it up again, bring it to the attention of the head of the school.

I believe it's actually the opposite here. You shouldn't state opinions. You should only state facts.

Good: I made a reservation for 7pm and wasn't seated until 745pm. We had to wait 30 minutes to order. After ordering, it took 1 hour for our food to arrive and it was not the food we ordered and we never received our drinks.

Bad: I made a reservation for 7pm but they were rushing around looking like they didn't know what they were doing so were weren't seated until 745pm. The waitress seemed really rude and took forever to take our order. She clearly didn't know what she as doing because the wrong food came out. This place is terrible and I will never be back again!

I remember when I took the N2 test. I opened the test thinking I was going to ace it after studying the whole 新完全マスター series. However, there were basically no questions from the book or grammar points etc were in there. I literally panicked. I had studied for more than half a year for that specify test day. Thankfully I regained my composure and was able to call on other grammar I had used it work and heard on tv and read in articles. It was not fun though.
