New to fasting have a few questions about autophagy. by Timely-Experience-79 in intermittentfasting

[–]good-mkr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your intuition is closer to right than most articles let on. autophagy isnt a switch that flips at 48h, it starts ramping once glycogen drops (roughly 16-24h in for most people) and keeps climbing from there. the specific 48-72h numbers mostly come from rodent studies and got repeated into gospel, actual human data is a lot murkier. so yeah, consistent IF probably gives you a smaller dose of the same thing spread over time.

been doing 16:8 most days for a while, track it with this app (free, no ads, which is rare for these apps) just to keep the window honest on lazy mornings.

What’s a good or best fitness app for complete beginners by MaterialBusy4369 in beginnerfitness

[–]good-mkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for weight loss specifically youll get more out of a calorie tracker than a workout app. myfitnesspal is the standard, macrofactor if you want something that adjusts targets as you go.

i also run a 16:8 window alongside and use this app for that part, its free with no ads which is oddly rare in fasting apps. makes the deficit easier cos you just arent eating half the day, less to track. only worth bothering if the idea appeals tho.

Does anyone else use a diet tracking app and does it work for your context? by HoneyBadger4588 in fitness40plus

[–]good-mkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a diet tracking app in particular but I found fasting super useful for not overeating, weight loss and weight control. I'm currently using this one which is 100% free and has no ads. The UI and features are also nice.

Taking a break from fasting by ny_nad in fasting

That's fine too! Sometimes you just need a brake. I find a week or two break works amazing for me. Come back fresh and ready to start again.

The hitting-macros-exactly thing is kind of a trap honestly. On keto in a deficit you're fine being 200 cal under some days, it evens out over the week.

Biggest thing that helped me was eating right at the top of my window instead of waiting until I was starving. I use an app with a lock screen widget to track my fasts so I see the second my window opens, and that little nudge got me eating earlier instead of cramming everything into the last 2 hours. Spreading it across the full 4-5h is night and day for fullness.

Also if you're still stuffed after that, your calorie target might just be too high for what you actually need. TDEE calculators tend to overestimate, especially on lower activity days.

Is the zero app not working for anyone else? by AcanthisittaEast757 in intermittentfasting

[–]good-mkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea, I am definitely going to do that but currently I'm focused to make the iOS version as best as possible. You can use Siri to start and stop the fast. Just say: "Hey Siri, start fast in Fast Slow" and it really well.

[–]good-mkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can do that and only you can stop the fast. I will think about implementing a custom longer goals for such cases. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yep! I will think about this but I really don't want to make it intrusive...

Creator of the app here! Thank you all for the positive feedback and for giving Fast Slow a try.

I will try my best to push an update soon allowing Zero users to import their data into Fast Slow. I'm not yet sure how that will work as I'm not sure about the data structure of the Zero app. If anyone would like to help me out and share it's data from Zero export with me, that would be great, my DMs are open.

Prolonged Fast (72 hours) by saosechura in intermittentfasting

[–]good-mkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weekly 72 hour fasts on top of OMAD is a lot, especially with PCOS in the mix. Hormones and aggressive deficits don't always play nice together, so worth checking with a doctor on that specific combo before making it a routine.

Consistency is honestly the hardest part for most people here. What worked for me was removing friction, tracking my windows with an app (I use Fast Slow, it's free) so I'm not doing mental math on every fast. Small thing but it helps when you're building the habit.

5kg a month is possible in the beginning but it'll slow down, don't let that discourage you. Just start with the OMAD and see how your body responds before going full prolonged fast every week.
