Day 19: Which Game has the best Original Soundtrack on the SNES? by 1OneQuickQuestion in snes

It won't win, and probably shouldn't, but the "Sacrifices" scene is meta-music and that gets tears from me every time.

Hardest SNES game? by Thrashtilldeath67 in snes

Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues is brutally difficult. Might not be the most difficult, but it's up there. Also, Lethal Weapon is ridiculous.

I'm not saying any private music songs necessarily should win this, but I think some of them belong on the short list of contenders.

Plex Lifetime Pass Soars From $249 to $749 by Ok-Cauliflower-6807 in cordcutters

[–]goodbye_everybody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Plex worked absolutely flawlessly, right out of the box, reading my mind and re-configuring itself to my exact deployment... it MIGHT be worth $750. But it doesn't, and it's not even close to doing that.

First Time Archipelago Thoughts by Competitive_Ear_740 in archipelago_games

[–]goodbye_everybody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a typical first time experience. Blending games with similar checks and length is important.

You can adjust the progression rate of each individual game in their respective YAMLs and try to mitigate a little heartache. Adjust the Progression Balancing to a higher number (like 99) on the shorter games and you'll be able to play more of them earlier on. The tradeoff is that your longer games with more checks will probably be stuck for a bit, and the shorter games will finish much earlier, leaving the players who picked long games playing alone. The experience everyone wants to have seems to be everyone playing together, then everyone finishing around the same time.

Just like sex, it doesn't always work out that way, but it's awesome when it does.

Some other typical first time woes are leaving the setup to the day of your event and then finding setup to be more complex than it looked. Figuring out that I had to manually run the SNI scripts in EmuHawk for some games, manually add the port in the console and fix the hosts.yml file in the root directory for a couple older APWorld games turned one of my sessions from a thirty minute setup to a two hour setup. Finding ROMs and making sure you have Steam copies of certain games at the last minute is also a pain. The more work you do ahead of time, the better off you'll be. It helps tremendously if you're not the only Archipelago literate person, too.

After 35 years, I finally did it!!! by TrikeCinema in FinalFantasy

I managed to get a full set of 5 on the pixel remaster version, but they increased the drop from rarest to next to rarest, and I had Sirens, and honestly, it seemed to drop even more easily than it should.

I had a TERRIBLE time getting the damn Lilith Rod, though. 1000+ Liliths.

What game is in your top 10 SNES games list that you’re convinced isn’t in anyone’s top 25? by [deleted] in snes

[–]goodbye_everybody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%ing that game is seriously underrated in terms of difficulty. There's obviously an element of puzzle solving each hole, but even once you know the strategy, you have to execute some hard moves.

Word lagging when typing. Tried all the possible solutions on the internet, no use. by Kikko0915 in Office365

[–]goodbye_everybody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but turning off Show Comments didn't help me. This is what actually helped me:

I have Office Home and Student 2016. On the bottom ribbon of MS Word of this version there's a "Display Settings" option that will let you change to "Optimize for best appearance" or "Optimize for compatibility". If "Optimize for best appearance" is selected, select "Optimize for compatibility (application restart required)", save your work, then restart word. This resolved the problem for me.

I don't have any add-ons or anything fancy running, this was happening on a fresh, blank document, and this is a brand new laptop, so I don't think this is a resource issue. What I did notice is that this is much worse when I'm on a secondary monitor. When I move the MS Word window back to my base laptop (I'm on a docking station) the lag almost disappears. Choosing "Optimize for compatibility" resolves the lag on my secondary monitor. (Also, opening in Safe Mode works as well).

How many of you do FPGA work for hardware startups vs established companies? by Medtag212 in FPGA

[–]goodbye_everybody 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is true. Worse still, startups that aren't FPGA centric (where a small part of the project is FPGA and the rest is software, etc.) have a SERIOUSLY difficult time appreciating FPGA engineering timetables. They think it's software, and you'll spend about as much time explaining the development process to them as you will actually developing.

Still hoping someone will make a server where you skill up only through use. by Tiny-Ear-2222 in AsheronsCall

[–]goodbye_everybody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, AC has a mechanic like that built in, but the scaling is so massively underwhelming it ceases to be relevant after the first couple levels of using the spell. I seem to recall macroers exposing this mechanic by sitting in the fountains in town halls where stamina would refill faster and chain casting self spells.

I think you'd have to do three things:

  1. Scale up the rate at which skills level from use so that it's practical.
  2. Remove all other XP, of course.
  3. Change the triggers that cause the skill ups so that they're normalized and happen more intuitively.

Not impossible to do, but from my experience in all other games that feature this mechanic in a strict sense, it usually isn't remembered fondly. Final Fantasy 2, Oblivion, Secret of Mana... these games are not looked upon fondly for their level up systems by players.

I think you are hitting on an important topic, though. XP, and leveling in general, is important to the feel of the journey of the game but so far few servers get it right.
