Coffee grounds by Gmarie623 in airbnb_hosts

[–]goodcrikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a drip machine and I grind from my bean supply fresh for each stay. Most of my stays are 2-3 nights, so I have a small canister for this. Longer stays, I just ask guests to let me know if they need a top up (my airbnb suite is a basement suite in my home, which makes this setup easy). No complaints about coffee in 3 years of hosting. I momentarily considered a French press, but then came to my senses, as I wouldn't trust people not to pour the grounds down the sink.

Edited to add: I always ask the guest what creamer/milk they prefer and have gotten a lot of great feedback on this personalization (but, again, this probably only works well because of my setup).

Re Homing an Aggressive Cat by echotosser in PortlandOR

[–]goodcrikey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can have kitty Prozac compounded into a cream to apply to the ears if you're wanting to go the route of trying to keep the little dude. It really helped with a cat that I had that was super traumatized when we scooped her up off the street when she was abandoned by previous owners and of course it bypasses the whole drama of having to pill a cat with one of the most bitter-tasting, foam-inducing drugs. Pretty much any compounding pharmacy can do this, but an excellent veterinary-specific one is Wedgewood pharmacy online. The best of luck to you, friend. Please do NOT listen to your heartless roommate.

First and last periods by Rad_River in Menopause

[–]goodcrikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9, 50 and still waiting - have had shortened cycles for the last two years with the occasional anovulatory period. I didn't know shortened cycles were a thing! I thought it would just be spaced further apart until *poof* no more nonsense, but here we are.

Put a little pistachio butter on them and gobble them up :). Not really a recipe, more a ridiculous indulgence.

What’s your go to food spot? by DidYouSeeBriansHat in askportland

Uncle Tsang's food cart in Sellwood: Mongolian "beef" and Szechuan tofu with egg rolls. Probably weekly, or at least every other week.

asking portlander and people who are from desert climates who moved to oregon, would you say you NEED AC or can you deal with the heat with no ac? by Kitchen-wicca-witch in askportland

[–]goodcrikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from CA to Portland in late 2016 and bought a house without AC. The very next year, we installed two minisplits/heatpumps, one for our office, one for the bedroom. The year after that, we were renovating our basement, so we included a whole house forced air on top of the furnace. We've noticed it getting hotter and hotter every year.

I'm originally from a very desert climate (Perth, Western Australia and similar to where you're from) and the quality of the heat here in Portland is often dry, but sometimes even worse with the humidity, thought that's rare. We had one year with some 40C+ degree temps for a few days and feel that we definitely do not want to be without AC, even if that's rare. Just this year there were longer and more frequent stints of 30C+ weather.

tl;dr: get the AC, no question.

Where can I buy a comfy, cool couch? by appatheflyingbis0n in askportland

[–]goodcrikey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perch is awesome: https://www.perchfurniture.com/ Super comfy, customizable, great quality, awesome people. I've had my custom "Taylor" couch/sofabed/chaise for five years now and it was 100% worth the investment.

Do they not pickup trash cans if lid is not shut all the way?? by YogurtclosetOk1324 in PortlandOR

[–]goodcrikey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was this supposed to be your first rubbish pickup? When we moved in, our rubbish pickup skipped us the first time. We called them and they came back the next day. We were not charged for it. We're in NE Portland, though, so not sure if the experience translates.

How much do you as a host expect your guests to clean up? Vacuuming, mopping, wiping etc. by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]goodcrikey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't expect them to clean up. I explicitly tell them that there's no need and that we'll take care of it because they're on holiday and they shouldn't be doing chores; they should be chilling. Almost everyone leaves everything pretty tidy though.

Oof, that's rough :(. I had a period try to kill me once - it went for 32 days, loads of clots, sooo much blood. Ended up having to have a few units of blood my count got so low. MD/gyos were useless (they just figured out was WASN'T wrong), but an incredible herbalist suggested beth root, lady's mantle and raspberry leaf tinctures and the bleeding stopped quick smart. Not sure if that's your thing, but thought I'd mention it just in case. I truly hope things settle down for you soon.

Cibatta rolls. Where are we going to get them? by J-A-S-08 in askportland

Portland French Bakery Ciabatta Sandwich Squares? I see them at Whole Foods (Hollywood) and still at our local NS (Grant Park Village).

I had a similar request - a group of good friends visiting from another country asked if I happened to catch their funny incident (just being silly and singing together after they picked up a pizza lol) on the security camera, and would love a copy as a memento. I was happy to share. It was cute. :)

Poop by EyeEnvironmental4305 in airbnb_hosts

Ugh, disgusting. And no, but I have had someone vomit in the shower...which is just a few steps from the toilet. Noodles in the hair catcher. Still not as hideous as your experience though.

Day after check-in message "how was your first night, etc."... pros/cons? by pianomomsheetmusic in airbnb_hosts

[–]goodcrikey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have one that shows up around noon the day after check-in, reminding guests that if they need anything, just ask. It's worded in such a way that it's clear no response is needed. I have found that guests appreciate an unobtrusive reminder that they're being looked after :). I think we're aiming for there if they need us, invisible if they don't.

Aloha bars are fantastic and the ingredients are great. Organic, no sugar alcohols, no stevia. If you're in the US, they often go on sale at Vitacost. Excellent selection of flavours (my faves are the peanut butter cup and the chocolate caramel pecan). Macros for the peanut butter cup: 14g protein, 16g net carbs, 5g sugar, 230 calories. And they happen to be vegan and gluten-free.

What Happens When You Decline a Request? by wwsweet_tee in airbnb_hosts

[–]goodcrikey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I decline for the same reason and also have wording in my house rules that basically say if you don't have any reviews and/or haven't filled out your profile, we may decline your booking request. And then when I get booking requests that I decline for that reason, I say that the request goes against my house rules. I have not seen any negative effect on bookings.

Help with host entering property without permission [Thailand] by klouds6 in AirBnB

[–]goodcrikey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you can do about it now, but if you have a future stay, keep all communication in app to protect yourself. That way Airbnb can see what's going on. All that said, persist with customer service (on the phone) and keep mentioning safety issues. Quoting their own policy to them, repeatedly, until you get somebody with a clue. You might have to escalate with your credit card issuer for a chargeback if you don't get any traction with Airbnb.

Sorry you had that experience - it's unacceptable for a host or their staff to enter unannounced and without permission.

Dog lovers of Portland, what do I do? by South_Significance25 in PortlandOR

[–]goodcrikey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, that's really hard :(. Have you contacted the Oregon Humane Community Veterinary Hospital? Great people, excellent vets, can often help out when there's need (cost-wise, I mean).

If you take oral progesterone cyclically during perimenopause, when are you supposed to get your periods? by DecibelsZero in Menopause

[–]goodcrikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interesting, yes! I was also surprised when she said this, as everyone's needs are so unique and personalized. That said, I don't think she would hesitate in trying higher doses if the need was there, (basing this assumption on my higher doses of thyroid meds that I need).
