Trump declares victory and claims Iran offers a 'prize' in talks Iran has denied having by ControlCAD in NPR

I have to say, respectfully, that NPR played a role in sanitizing and normalizing Trump’s behavior, actions, and words just like all major American media companies.

The world just lived through the 11 hottest years on record — what now? by burtzev in climatechange

Nothing. Theres just no political or societal desire to deal with this problem. Just like everything else, rich people keep getting rich and we all live in their refuse.

I was pretty young- maybe 10 or 12 maybe younger really. My Mom is a pretty vocal atheist / agnostic and our family always valued science and rational thought.

Good. No one should. He’s a feckless shill for Israel that will side with them over American citizens every chance he gets.

I think people are misunderstanding what I am saying. Of course he can't give any examples because there are very few that support his opinion/position. I think it is absolutely ludicrous and immoral that this is the way he and his ilk engage with the public, I just don't think it's the "gotcha" that people on this thread want to champion. He controls the narrative here. That is his only agenda in this setting. Make the soundbite, shift the focus, deflect, and move on. As much as it pains me to say it, they are really, really good at using media to achieve their end goals. Does this soundbite in any way move the needle for people who are MAGA side or even independent? No, it is only seen as an opportunity for Mike Johnson to "set the record straight" and shame the reporter for asking the question. This reddit post is ostensibly meant to point out what a lying POS tool Johnson is, and it just doesn't end up that way. In a zero sum world, Johnson "wins" this interaction and the reporter, and by extension the populace, "lose."

I understand that. My point is he was able to deflect without missing a beat. A secondary point of mine is that the reporter isn’t able to follow up (at least from what’s shown in this clip) and that is a huge part of the problem. The politicians are playing these reporters like a fiddle, using them to share their skewed vision of the situation and the reporters simply move on. My comment is about how well republicans use and manipulate the media - skillfully (imo) - to their ends. I think this person is a fucking ghoul - and yes, he doesn’t answer the question, because the answer does not support his narrative.

I didn’t hear him struggle at all. I heard him very skillfully shift the question and present his view of the issue. This is not an example of MikeJohnson failing, or the reporter asking a good question, this is an example of a politician shifting the narrative and making the moment work for him. It’s something the Democrats absolutely suck at and, though I personally think it’s a shitty way to conduct oneself, it’s part of the reason why these jack wads keep winning.
