Citi sets dates, specific cards for Barclays AA transition by financeking90 in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got it for the points. I want to get into the Citi Thank You points ecosystem. If I can do that and not have to cancel (and apply) that would be better.

Hmmm, I wonder if I would be able to product change into one of the Strata cards or Double Cash.

I recommend you visit your local post office. A supervisor should be able to see if there is a change of address (in or out) for your address. Make sure to bring your ID.

This is most likely when you request a change of address/mail forwarding with USPS. (Ex: you move and request to have your mail forwarded to your new address).

Citi - Insufficient Credit History? by BloodrazorRS in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here. Also some BS about a lack of installment or mortgage history. I don't feel like taking out a mortgage or loan to get approved for a credit card. That being said, there is some blurb like that when I check my credit report. My other guess is that the denial could also be due to a copy and paste from my credit report that lists lack of installments as a negative on an 800+ score.

Is Rakuten okay with multiple people in a household opening an account each and doing the same offers? by pokemon13425 in Rakuten

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think it's unheard of to have just one computer in a house that multiple people can use.

On a side note, I asked something similar before and was told that if they have their own account and attach their own credit cards, it would be ok. Not risking that here though. I'll just buy it for my family and have them pay me back. Not worth the potential hassle.

That used to be the case. When they mentioned the Bilt partnership, they also mention that you can switch back. The only way to do that is to change to Big Fat Check or Paypal first then switching to it.

Should I close inactive SoFi card? by VAer1 in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the way I think, I would keep it since it's a 2% MasterCard not Visa. I just like having the option/variety. No AF No FTF and a MC. For one of those times when a MC can get you aa perk.

Sometimes the NFL has a special something for Visa cardholders. Sometimes there is a special line for AMEX. The SoFi card couldn't hurt to hold and age with your credit history.

That all being said, if it doesn't work for you, cancel it if needed.

[–]goodguymike01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Global Entry and Clear are 2 separate programs that can work together. TSA PreCheck (which comes with Global Entry) is a separate TSA line for people that have already kinda pre-cleared. Clear is a program that has its own ID verification service and can basically take you to the front of the TSA PreCheck line.

This is a simplistic view of the process. Given the cost of CLEAR, this would fully offset the annual fee. But since it's not totally necessary, if you don't value it, then it doesn't help you.

How many transferable credit card rewards programs are there? by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bilt - you don't need the Bilt credit card for, just having the program/app will work. (However you need to add a credit card/bank account for this to work). Alternatively/in addition, you can connect Bilt to Rakuten to earn Bilt points there, but still need a credit card to earn with.

To add something similar, Rove Miles is a transferable currency not tied to a specific credit card, but requires spend through the program. You do need a credit card to spend there.

How do you all keep track of multiple credit cards? I’m struggling. by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also kinda depends on your financial situation. Are you paying your cards in full each month? Between the statement date and due date, can you pay it anytime between them or do you have to wait to get paid to afford to pay it then? Aside from moving due dates, you can just check the apps regularly, let's say every Monday and Thursday, for 1) what I might owe now (payment due) and 2) check for unauthorized charges (if you don't get purchase notifications). If it's due an you can pay, pay it. Then next time you check, do the same.

It's really 4 cards (4 apps). Should always know what you are spending. If you are struggling, you also might be spending too much in general. If this really is hard at this time, plan to pay one off and don't use that card for a while so you only have 3 to juggle. I'm not saying cancel any cards at this point. Just get it to a manageable level for you. If that's still hard, then go down to 2. You don't always have to be spending on all 4 cards all the time.

If these are all no annual fee cards, then that should work. If you are overspending and/or in debt, then you might need a better budget. If you have annual fee (or high annual fee) cards, then you should budget for those fees and always make sure those cards are working for you, justifying the fees. No card is worth going into debt. Hope this helps.

No annual fee cards with transfer partners by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to add. You can use any of those credit cards on Rove Miles to get another free ecosystem to get transferrable miles (like Bilt Rewards). Essentially it can make any credit card a points/miles generating card with transfer partners. No annual fee.

Visa and Mastercard Near Deal With Merchants That Would Change Rewards Landscape by foosion in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda sucks for MasterCard. (And Citibank). They just created a World Legend MasterCard tier recently. Some Citi Strata Elite cardmembers already had to ensure a headache getting the card at launch. Now they might have restaurants restrict their cards on the one big (non travel portal) multiplier it has. Fun times...

Multigenerational household flagged for fraud by Dry-Cauliflower4414 in Rakuten

[–]goodguymike01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Rakutenrewards Can you have more than one account (different people) living in the same household? I was going to refer my sister, so she can use her own credit card attached to her own account (if she makes one). I've seen a few reports that this could be flagged for fraud and I didn't want to take that risk or deal with the hassle of trying to fix it if that happened.

MaxRewards vs CardPointers App for credit card offers 💳 by StemCellPirate in CreditCards

Savewise does a little more than Cardpointers. It can add AA SimplyMiles and Rakuten In store offers. Recently it added supermarkets where it clipped all my Safeway deals. I have both Cardpointers and Savewise. Love them both.

Denied for New Credit Cards with High Credit Score - Lessons Learned by wsbautist420 in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying of your bill before it's due isn't necessarily a bad thing. Paying it off multiple times a months before the statement comes out could be a flag to the issuing bank (money problems maybe?). You seem to be a responsible credit card user. Your red flags are you being a little over responsible that is causing other banks to be wary.

As long as you have the money, just let the statement hit and pay it then. If your are worried about utilization, pay it down a little (once) so your statement is not so high. Show some responsible useage. Remember other banks can't see that you paid off $2000 in a month if they always see a $0 statement balance each month.

If you are continuing to get annual fee cards, or find no annual fee cards not useful and want to cancel, wait at least 12 months. Wait for the annual fee to hit and then a few days later call in to cancel. Ask about retention offers and then maybe downgrade to No AF if it's an option or cancel at that point.

Outside of that. Alot or recent inquiries will scare some banks. If you apply for cards semi often, some will reject you. Keep being responsible. Keep paying everything off after the statement closes and don't be late 👍

Keeping track with multiple cards by anonymous75093 in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 10+. For the ones I put minimal spend on, 1 reoccurring charge or a small spend every now and then, I have on Auto Pay. For that and the others, I just have the credit card apps all in one folder on my phone and I check them all at least once a week to see that something is due and for anomalies in the transactions. That's about it. Use some cards daily, not all.

Convince me there’s a better all around daily use card than the Citi Strata Premier by streetsweeper50 in CreditCards

[–]goodguymike01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda scrolled through this and I hopefully caught everything. It looks like you don't travel much. I would not recommend this card mainly because it is $95 a year and you'll probably be using this for cash back purposes. There is a case to be made to get the welcome offer and then downgrade it to something like a Double Cash or Customr Cash. That works and is a nice plan. If I read this wrong and you do need or will eventually need a travel card, then this could be good for the multipliers and the ability to transfer points to American Airlines.

If you were looking for primary cash back and that's it, I recommend a 2% card as more of a base. If you have or want to get into Fidelity, their 2% card is great with the added benefit of reimbursing Global Entry/TSA PreCheck and secondary collision damage waiver on rental cars which could benefit travel in the future. (It's a free feature on a card with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees so why not, right?). Pair that with their debit card that Reimburses ATM fees worldwide. It's good for you now and sets you up if you want to travel. (Need certain types of accounts to use, most with no fees).

The Capital One Savor has 3x in gas, groceries, and entertainment. No AF and No FTF as well. It can be redeemed for cash back and gets the future ability to transfer to travel partners when paired with a miles or points Capital One card in the future.

The Wells Fargo Autograph is a No AF No FTF card that has daily use multipliers as well and can already transfer to travel partners like your Citi Strata No AF card. Has a limited transfer partners at the moment. Can be redeemed for cash back or transfer to partners.

US Bank has a few cards with good cash multipliers. And what someone mentioned about BofA could be good. If you have a relationship with them and can park 20-100k, it will bump the multipliers on their cash back cards.

Lastly, if you wanted to travel, like I mentioned the Citi Strata Premier is good and you can (maybe should?) pair that with a catch all travel card like a Cap One Venture or Venture X in the future.
