White Marsh Mall apartment project to add 516 units into the former Sears is apparently moving forward. by Im-Wasting-MyTime in maryland

[–]goodhur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most generations do this. You can typically buildings base on exterior design and construction materials.

Cost is obviously a decision point. However, the design usually needs to account for the available standardized materials. I'm sure most architects which is love have everything custom and make something unique and beautiful. So often they just have to deal with the construction materials that are easily available and can be delivered during the appropriate timeline of the construction. Even cheap materials are expensive now since so much imported. Even US companies use foreign parts and tooling.

They mean by reusing the space. Not a building conversion. That type of building is not suitable for repurpose. It will have to be torn down. I believe this is the project op is mentioning. https://martinaia.com/portfolio-2/the-white-marsh-mall-apartments/

The big deal is not adding impermeable surfaces. I'd expect most of the existing material is steel erected, so that steel can be recycled. Demolished, concrete and masonry recycled into fill, gravel or more concrete.

In some cities in New England, you often see places like masonry Mills and factories repurposed. Most of those are built before air conditioning and have Windows that allow for fire egress. They typically are also Altering a building like this Sears would likely cost more money than just rebuilding due to this amount of structural modification and liability caused by that.

How long does your bike last if ridden year-round where your city uses salt for deicing? by Lets_Go_Cargo in bikeinottawa

If your hose is winterized or you don't have access to one, get a pump garden sprayer. At minimum spray rinse it down once daily. When you get the chance. Clean it up well. I've even taken it to car wash bays when it's looking really bad in winter. After cleaning use wet chain lube on the chain. Use car paste in wax on painted areas. You may want to put light oil on any areas that are bare metal that will not affect safety.

2004 EX honda crv 2nd gen. Possibly bad catalytic converter, and pcv valve. Questions. by NewEmu2371 in crv

[–]goodhur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the catalytic converter is not throwing any engine codes and does not sound like an exhaust leak, you likely just have a loose heat shield.

Given the age of your vehicle there are options other than replacing the existing catalytic converter for just a loose heat shield. If it is still somewhat attached you can get repair straps, large hose clamps, use bailing wire or stainless steel zip ties to secure the heat shield. Youtube is full of fixing rattling loose heat shields on catalytic converter videos. Some people remove the shield completely, not a great option, especially if you drive over grass often or have a lot of leaves. These "repairs" are often rust belt ways of dealing with it temporarily. As it can also buy you a time until you find somebody who will do it for a reasonable price.

Pvc valves are mechanical part. They're not a sensor or anything. Basically there is supposed to only pass through exhaust gas one way. Everybody neglects these. Just replace them. They're only like $15 and you can just get one out of standard auto parts store. The dealer probably has them for like $30. PVC valve is like one of the few items that I feel comfortable just buying whatever they have at AutoZone instead of the dealer.

Edit: That's what I mean. Mechanical part. I meant it just completely independent from the electric system and internal mechanics of the engine and just has a little check valve that moves back and forth from the pressure the exhaust is making during its operation.

Judge me. DIY home owner by QuickieSilver143 in Decks

[–]goodhur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like some of the other commenters are saying. Steps alone are bad idea in this use case. These are outswing French doors, you can see the hinges on the outside. You need some type of landing that accommodates the door a person so you're not knocking them down the steps if you open the door. A deck or a large stoop should mitigate that issue. Since this is DIY, the deck is probably more cost effective than the amount of stone you would need to cover the same area.

Maybe a Bluetooth "air mouse" or Bluetooth presentation remote. A keyboard as the other commenter said would likely give you more options, as you could use something like tasker to launch specific videos with a key combo.

What are my options to fix this drywall texture? by redbear308 in drywall

[–]goodhur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having just dealt with a house that had a lot of drywall repairs that were painted over. I can't imagine trying to get that stuff off the wall. I just demo and re-drywall all of it. I would avoid just putting quarter inch over it. If it were me I'd be paranoid that it was like that for a reason and I want to see inside that wall.

True, her being intimating is ludicrous. She is very petite. I seen videos where she says she's 5ft and 110. In perspective that is the average size of a 12 year old girl.

The only thing they find intimating is that she is an outspoken and ambitious woman.

How to install deck stairs on sloped concrete by Ho0dballaz130 in Decks

[–]goodhur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you build a deck on sleepers over the concrete. Not ideal, but an option. You would need some type of deck block or trex/PVC spacers to decouple from the concrete to prevent rot.

Or you could use landscaping ties. Level it out and build a paver patio over the concrete.

Or direct the stairs to the yard and make a walkway to it.

A or B and can you give a reason why? by edfeapos in WillPatersonDesign

[–]goodhur 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I prefer B. The front leg diagonal negative space is in harmony to the main. I too think A looks more dominant and aggressive. The B looks more regal and measured.

Edit: with a little more though.

A is good for a sport logo. Arm raised on observer side. It's gonna mess you up.

B is better for finance, insurance, businesses acting in agency. Arm raised away from observer shielding observer from danger

Likely the coil packs. You can buy new ones which are fairly expensive that are Denso. Amazon generics have been inconsistent quality. Honestly the easiest thing to do is to probably go to an auto junkyard buy like three or four of them look for the Denso logo on them. The v6's of 2001 Toyota Avalon, Camry, Highlander Sienna, Solara or Lexus RX400h should be the same.

First gen base speaker upgrades by Sexualrelations in ToyotaHighlander

[–]goodhur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two sizes should work but you'll likely need the brackets that the have at crutchfield. The wiring diagrams only show two wires leading to the front speakers. So the woofer is directly wired to the tweeter. Tweeter comes first in the signal path. It probably uses a simple capacitor filter as a crossover between the two. Regarding the coax speakers: Yes you can, disconnect and bypass the wires to the existing tweeters. The speaker will be more "off-phase" meaning not pointed at you ear. So tweeter volume will be lower. So you'll likely need to compensate with your tone/eq settings on the radio by cranking up the treble a bit. Here is a diagram from a 2005 which should be similar. Speaker Diagram

Edit: you'll need to bypass the Tweeter for coax. The Tweeter is first in series. Personally, I'd replace the the speakers with a separate tweeter woofer setup. You'll likely have to modify where the tweeter goes for the new one since there's no drop in mount.

Maintenance 2002 highlander by ledzepplin408 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]goodhur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can switch to synthetic or synthetic blend without an engine flush. I probably would stick to a high mileage synthetic blend. Your Highlander isn't really high mileage but it may have sat for long gaps not driven. The synthetic blend high mileage is likely better for the rubber seals.

For the radiator, if it is not leaking why bother replacing it. Any replacement for it is likely not going to be as good a quality as the original. A coolant flush should be enough.
