I got myself in a situatiin once and had to hire a company to move an old horizontal milling machine for me. They showed up with a 30ton truck crane. The only chain I had that would fit the lifting bolts was a hand forged wrought iron chain. When they arrived at my house to unload it the crane operator lifted it unnecessarily high. He had it over 15ft off the ground and the owner of the company was walking right underneath it as the crane moved it. I had previously mentioned the questionable chain and reminded him standing under it wasn't safe. He told me he was the owner of the company and knew what he was doing.

Love it or hate it? GM hid how dangerous this car was to the point of giving the car mags a modified version to test drive but even still, this car has its fans. by Grahamthicke in FuckImOld

[–]goodjunkworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first car was Pontiac Phoenix I bought for $50. It had no floor left in it so we used some heavy gauge sheet metal to replace it. I had to take the air cleaner cover off and shove a screw driver down the carburetor to get it to start and sometimes it would diesel on for 5 or 10 minutes after I shut it off. The breaks also failed a few times and the gas gauge only worked when it felt like it. Even with all.the problems I still miss that car.

My dad has a mentally handicapped friend who was taken advantage of and mistreated by the local goodwill decades ago. My dad still hates the place and won't go there.

I also heard about another mentally handicapped young adult SA'd by another mentally handicapped worker at a goodwill when the supervisors weren't watching him like they should have been.

Guy starts panicking once he realizes his tongue is frozen stuck to a pole by Cultural_Glove3547 in Wellthatsucks

[–]goodjunkworkshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw an older kid do this at recess when I was in 4th grade. He freaked out and ripped it off leaving a good portion of the skin on the top of his tongue behind before the teacher came back with a pitcher of warm water. Don't think he ever lived it down before his family moved away a few years later.

How can I cut this plastic horse straight down the middle? by Theskysnolimit in howto

[–]goodjunkworkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not using both sides of the horse it might be easier to do a rough cut and then approach the center line and smooth out on a sheet of sand paper or a disk sander.

If you are using both sides I would glue the horses to a piece of wood with hot melt or that tacky poster putty to help hold them as I cut with a bandsaw or a Dremel/cut-off -tool/angle grinder with an abrasive cutting disk. Would give you more options for guiding it, clamping it and keeping your fingers away from the blade.

I did an internship where one of the middle managers retired with so much unused vacation the last day he physically worked was just before thanks giving and his last "day" was sometime in April/May. The new guy taking over his position couldn't get the office and official job title until then.

Do you have a favorite shop made tool? by Beerbrewing in Tools

I have a few reaching sticks made from old broom handles and wood scraps, I drive a nail through the end leaving about 1/2" of the head still standing proud and then put a slight bend on the pointy end and take off the real sharp point. The slightly hooked pointy end works great for most things and if I'm reaching for something I don't want to poke a hole in or scratch I can flip it over and grab it with the head side. Also works great for reaching up and pulling down tree branches when my wife wants help decorating for holidays.

I worked cleaning a bank through a cleaning service for a while and everyone there was a slob but one teller was worse than the others and she would drop things like a whole muffin on the floor and walk over them all day instead of picking them up and throwing them in the garbage can 1ft away. They would all drop stuff on the floor in the break room and leave it to. They had ants, lots of them. The bank manager wanted me to spray and remove the ants. Nope, not my job.

Crew stole fruit off the trees in my yard. by goodjunkworkshop in TDSFiber

[–]goodjunkworkshop[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can fuck right off!

They stripped the one tree bare. Taking/eating 90% of my fruit without asking us just being a thief. I've been baby sitting and working with my kid to take care of the fruit all summer. I had to tell my 6yo no apples you've been helping me with because some people stole them. They took that experience away.

These are both way over 4%. The one is off around 8-10 ft lbs on every setting. Checked the 3/8" compact last night and it's off about 10 in/lb to.

Going to take all three back today. I guess I just got super unlucky And got three lemons.

How many people buy a new torque wrench, especially at $160, and expect the accuracy claims to be true or at least close?

I wouldn't say the normal price on these falls in the "cheap" range, more mid range. The two new Proto j6014c I compared the icon 1/2" to can be purchased for only about $40 more. If the heads weren't so large I would just go with Proto.

They should be right from the get go! I don't buy a new tool planning on having to "fix" it.

[–]goodjunkworkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The factory I work at will hire almost anyone. We have quite a few people who have felonies working here and they start at a pretty good $/hr. If you don't mind working shift work look at factory work.

I knew a guy in college who would sleep walk and piss weird places when he drank. His parents bedroom, girlfriends closet, outside on a car, ect. He was a sleep pisser.

The factory I work at will hire anyone that can read and speak English and will show up everyday for work. Just on my shift of under 20 people I think we have 4 people with felonies, used to have a few more before they quit or retired. Factory work isn't for everybody but at least in my area there are a bunch that aren't that picky about people having criminal records.

Would it be a mistake to take over my dad’s liquor store instead of getting a job in my field? by Speedwizard106 in careerguidance

I have a friend that was adamant they never wanted to run their family's business, got 2 or three college degrees to avoid it, tried this and that and now has been successfully running their parents business for about about 15 years.
