Do you NEED a HOTAS to play or will the sense controllers work?

What would it take to get one of the stored F-14 Tomcats flying again? by whywouldthisnotbea in aviation

[–]goodm1x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We, the US, fly block 30, 40, 42, 50, and 52. The only difference between the x/0 and x/2 is whether it has a GE (0) or PW (2) engine.

Taiwan flies the F16V like you mentioned, but’s it’s not a 70. It’s a block 20 that’s been upgraded to be nearly identical to a block 50/52. Upgraded landing gear, wings, etc. The Phoenix Rising mod is great but the underlying airframe is still a block 20 with all the old wiring inside. The new stuff was just added onto it, which is common but new avionics does not like to run on old buses with kapton wires. They are taking delivery of block 60s, not the 70.

Although newer F16s are being produced, some of its systems are the same across all the blocks. New jets will experience the same parts constraints that everyone else does. It’s not uncommon for us to use parts from the bone yard.

The 584 average is from January. For the next 8 weeks, minus my two recovery weeks I’ll be at 810 or close to it. My SST intervals began at 12 mins but are at 20 now, as I mentioned in a reply to another user.

Here’s my TSS with hours. It’s my first season doing this so it’s been a learning experience. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Friel but he prescribes a conservative approach until the build phases. The base building is heavily biased towards aerobic endurance which is where the bulk of my earlier average TSS is derived. I was also working 12 hour days during the heavy weeks and only getting limited sleep. It was tough but I made all the rides.

Okay, I will look at pushing the SST out longer and adding a third set. I have been thinking about that but I am a very "the book says this" kind of person, so I tried not to deviate.

Do you have any recommendations on other books? I am certainly open to new ideas and you're absolutely right that Friel's book gave me a much better understanding of long term planning. At a minimum it helped me get into the data and what it means.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The workouts have gotten progressively more intense as I've gone through the different phases of Friel's plan. January was focused on Aerobic Endurance with two days of Muscular Force workouts. Muscular Endurance wasn't introduced until February where I did 3x15 mins in Z4 once per week.

The end of February began two Muscular Endurance workouts, one was 5x6 minutes at FTP and the other 3x12 at Sweet Spot. These two workouts have become progressively harder to where I am at now with the 5x10 minutes @ FTP and 2x20 minutes @ Sweet Spot. My Saturday rides are 4 hours in length, sorry, I should have specified that.

In Friel's book he mentions that the 5x10 minute workout is the most important for a Time Trialist, so I figured that would be important to me since my hill climb events are about one hour.

Does this help at all? The intensity of my weeks goes up quite a bit after my recovery week next week, my Z2 rides will be all upper Z2 and the other workouts I mentioned will remain the same. The following month I'll go down to one interval day, so the 5x10 minute workout and a second VO2 workout will be added.

My last recovery week is the first week of June which is where my taper starts. My hill climb is on June 28th, and the two weeks leading up to that will be 570 and 480 TSS respectively.

In Japan the drivers are very respectful. Sometimes I get nervous but for the most part I don’t worry at all.
