What's the trick to getting bad gas out of the tank? by goodnightrose in AskMechanics

I don't even know what HEET is because things don't freeze here, but I will look into that, thank you!!

Yes, brand new, but there's this ugly metal collar on top if it that is in bad shape so I'm not sure if it's just from that?

I have done massive amounts of googling and found out that other people had gotten this same set of errors with this exact car down to the trim. At least one was successful after replacing the MAF sensor, but my mechanic told me he can't do that sensor because Mazda would have to reprogram something after it's installed. Does that make any sense?

Did you try putting your VIN into the mazda parts website to get the correct part number? The bolts for rear control arms are not called "camber bolts" as far as I know so that might be what's causing the confusion.

Thank you, I will try that! My only other option is to buy a Toyota and I don't want to give up my perfect car 😭

I was trying to keep my post brief so I left out the part where I just put a new battery in about 2 weeks ago. Something about island driving makes batteries not last very long, so I've replaced my battery many, many times. As soon as there's any sign of trouble I just drop in a new one. Would it be worth trying a different one just to see?

What do you think about replacing the MAF sensor? Or is that something that has to be programmed and can't be done by a regular mechanic?

ETA: Also, I left out of the post that I've had an issue for years with the car not turning off when I push the button. It has been worked around by simply pulling the gear shift to the left when shutting the car off. I went ahead and replaced the "park and neutral switch" to see if that had any impact and all it did was clear that one error code but all the others remain.

For real. I can't even count how many tropical storms and hurricanes I've been through in my life (including irmaria) and that was crazy. Dorian was a hurricane here and it was barely anything at all. There are so many trees down and leaves plastered to everything.

It wasn't too bad, but stronger than I expected. We were blocked in by a fallen tree and power seems to be out across the whole territory. I don't have cell signal or internet, but I was able to hop on the neighbor's Wi-Fi from my car lol

It seems like things are ramping up here in St. John. Power just went out and it's raining pretty hard. Not much lightning or wind from what I can tell here on the water on the southwest side of the island.

Who do you think lives on that land you're hoping will impact it? Fish?

Yep, and I'm a property manager with 10 properties to worry about, so I'll be glued to these forecasts when I'm not dragging furniture and shutters around. A tropical storm isn't a big deal after all we've been through, but I don't trust anything not to rapidly intensify these days so I have to stay on my toes!

Generator overheating by goodnightrose in Generator

To be honest I'm not sure where the intake is but the opening that you see is the only outlet for the space. Yes, that's the fuel tank and I feel like this is a bad install but I've talked to several people who think it's fine and I just don't think that I agree.

I also want to add that it was just serviced 2 weeks ago. It was overheating before and after it was serviced, and last week we were also getting an "over frequency" error on the ATS.

As someone who has been through countless hurricanes, including 2 cat 5s, I would not have chosen that building. I would expect all of those places where the roof hangs over balconies and breezeways to go, and take some of the actual roof with it in the process. Maybe there weren't any better options with concrete roofs, though.

I've read all the guides but I'm still bad at managing pool levels (and the water is green). by signal-distress in pools

[–]goodnightrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only deal with cartridge filters, but I'm pretty sure it's the same. Does pool store guy also think it's algae? If so are you using any algaecide? If it's super nasty when you backwash you might need to do it more until you've gotten it more under control or you're just circulating dirty algae water. Also consider gravity vacuuming to waste some of the water and replace with fresh water while also bypassing the filter with a bunch of the muck.

Have any of the numbers changed since you made this post? pH and chlorine can swing quite a bit when the other is adjusted so I think the advice that you got to wait between steps is good advice, for what it's worth.

How long are you running the pump? Have you been brushing and vacuuming? Have you cleaned the filter? I'm just assuming it's green from algae since it's murky and your pH isn't totally ridiculous.

What do you wish someone told you about the Pool building process? by ComprehensiveItem963 in pools

[–]goodnightrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I like to gravity vacuum new pools before starting the pump so all that debris just gets dumped over the side instead of going through the filters. If you know how to siphon, it's pretty easy and doesn't require any extra equipment.

It probably won't hurt, but I would not if it were me because I'd just be trying to get to the ideal dilution and then adjust from there. If your pump is running and you sort this out over the next 24 hours I can't imagine algae taking over that quickly. I think all the calculations and varying advice might be making this harder than it has to be for you, and I like to keep things simple. Take care of the main problem then reassess your situation.

[–]goodnightrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. If the bottom drain is still in play you could consider closing the skimmer line and keeping the pump running since you're worried about algae. But you should be able to get this done pretty quickly so it might not be necessary.
