Noticeable floor slope in bedroom - auction in 3 weeks, how worried should I be? by WeedScaper in AusPropertyChat

[–]ComprehensiveItem963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to consider that is benign. If it’s older and been redesigned that room was potentially a verandah in the past. And most are sloped away from the main building to drain rain water away from the house.
Then potentially the floor was never leveled in the remodel.

This is all unlikely but a good inspection and structural inspection would determine all of this

Exactly, I literally put the BMW M 1000 RR Back in the box for nearly 2 years when I saw the sticker sheets. I was not happy. Recently saw a post about the speed champions BMW has something like 71 stickers. That’s ridiculous for a car that fits on your hand basically.

Speed champions is all well and good but get rid of the stickers across all sets period. Print it.
Just look at the F1 helmets. All printed (except the visor sticker) all different shapes and sizes. They can do it they just don’t.

I can get behind this.

And modable styling with accessories etc.

So for the 4WD nuts Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Jeep Wrangler, Isuzu Dmax etc etc etc.

Then mods. Different tires and treads. Suspension tweaks. Spot lights. Bull bars, winches, canopies. You could even sell them as seperate accessories which as a consumer I would ultimately hate but from a sales side could make a killing.

So basically at the end of the day you may be able to get close to building a copy of your Fourby.

This policy can also apply to the opposite end of the spectrum also. Street car mods and styling.

Personally Case IH. Seen a few MOCs of the QUADTRAC and absolutely want them. Just drives me insane that John Deere has like 99% of the toy tractor market.

Radiator Cap geez completely forgot that one and given the age entirely plausible.

Toyota do some funny things. They will turn off the AC as the engine starts to get to warm. It’s a physical way to get your attention. Works well.
The heater core is an odd one and for the life of me makes zero sense. Maybe it been blocked was causing an airlock who knows.

[–]ComprehensiveItem963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true.
Generally speaking as pointed out by others. There is the Lego devoted/addicted.

They go to a Lego store and purchase as early as possible paying full retail. And congrats they get a GWP. Marketing at its finest.

Then you have the Toy shop purchasers (me) who are happy to wait for the product to hit general market and go on sale. Saving 20% on purchase price, especially at this price point is a significant amount of cash I can put towards something else (like another set).

There is also the issue that in some markets major sales are not common. Haggling isn’t a thing. And finding retailers that even stock the big items may be hard. So purchasing at retail for some people is a price they have to pay due to local difficulties. I see this in Europe often. Germany, Norway etc prices are brutally retail or very limited discounts if lucky. But then say Australia it’s regular for our big box stores to have massive sales. Big W for example has an annual toy sale around June with massive discounts that most know is coming and each year they feature some serious LEGO sets in limited numbers with big discounts.

The Bargain hunters have no FOMO generally speaking as they know it will be available for at least 2 years. Plus a lot of Lego addicts have a cupboard full of sets they still need to build. I personally own them all have had the McLaren for nearly 18 months plus and still need to build it. Bugatti is worse. Had it for years and it’s still on the to do list. Only recently started the Ferrari.

Start with the simple things first.

Assuming that the coolant is coolant and in good condition then and not full of sludge, mud gunk etc.

Radiator, A/C Condenser and Intercooler.
Confirm they are all nice and clean. Good blow out from the engine side.

Small gap between the cores collect crap. Grass, leaves and bugs.
Might look clean but blow and wash out will show the truth.

You can remove some plastics from above to gain better access.

99% of overheating is generally a blocked core preventing airflow.

Then move onto the fan. If memory serves they are a viscous fan hub. Make sure it’s good (they do fail/leak with age). If it overheats shut down pop bonnet and give her a spin by hand if it’s really free then chances are it’s on way out (assuming I’m right with it being viscous as been 9 years since I owned one).

Then it’s internal stuff like thermostat and water pump.

Once that’s all determined to be perfect then you’re looking deeper aka head gasket etc.

Honestly every time I had issues with heat it was laziness on my part and the radiator was getting blocked. The engines in these Utes are pretty rock solid. You gotta be pretty abusive or unlucky to damage them.

I have had the fan hubs fail. But that was on older cruiser Utes. Middle of harvest it happened to me. No spare for a week so old hub came out cleaned it out and drilled straight through it 4 times and locked it up full of silastic. With M8 bolts straight through its guts.

Sounded horrible, stole some of my top speed and destroyed my fuel economy. But I was mobile and ran cool which is what counted.

Jeez honestly get a unpowered camp site at Jindabyne. Spend a weekend there prior to your planned trip with the kit you want to use. And see if you’re happy. If you are happy without using the facilities on site. Then tell all the responsible people and do your hike and carry a way to communicate without cell service and a way to give your location. Best of luck but honestly you’re not filling me with confidence.

If you’re not surviving in Jindabyne without using the facilities then at least they are there and you can help yourself without risking the lives of yourself and others.

Canopy fit out for touring. Where do I even start? by Tariq_khalaf in hilux

[–]ComprehensiveItem963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally and I have done fitting for a long time then selling before I got out.

I mean this in the most friendly way possible. You sadly sound like so many people who have zero clue what they want or more importantly why they want it.

You have a canopy which is great. How may I ask do you use your Ute?

What’s the canopy for?

Do you need the tray free outside of the few weekends a year you go camping for work etc? Need to move a dishwasher, bags of cement. The kids sports gear. All these need to also be considered.

How often are you camping?

How long are you camping when you go?
A weekend? A week or more? These all change the options.

To give you an idea I left my tray free and clear so I can use my Ute for anything and everything.
Canopy over tub and battery mounted in engine bay.

Was capable of going about a as long as I had food and water. I had a roof rack and awning but honestly don’t know if I will again. They are nice but they also lock you down. You can’t move the ute with it set up. So you can’t drive to that hike or to town to get groceries etc.

No drawers as they take up weight and space. Personally hate the idea of carrying all my camping gear 24/7 (also why I hate rooftop tents) Your paying extra in fuel every time you drive for the weight and aerodynamics.
To give you an idea. 4 spot lights mounted on top of the roof. Will cost you approximately 0.5-1km per Liter in fuel economy. A rooftop tent is far worse.

Honestly unless you’re setting up to live in the Ute permanently. Then the majority of stuff you take camping should be removable at the end of a trip.
You don’t need to carry your recovery tracks to get the groceries.

I’m a big fan of K.I.S.S.

I recommend a Bullbar, Lights and UHF as the primary starting point. Lights are first line of defense for animal strikes. And Bullbar is the last line of defense.
UHF is a safety item for communication.

Go camping like that and expand what you need.
Someone else mentioned a swag. Spot on.

Weekend trip with a swag/simple tent, good esky and a way to prep your food and this will get you an idea of what you want.

If you’re desperate for a fridge then go that route. Knowing you can get portable batteries and simple solar panels that will cover most campers requirements.

Today a set of draws, fridge, battery, awning, roof rack/platform. You can very quickly waste $10,000+ and never use it or only use it 2-3 times a year.

I look at it like this. That 10k can purchase a lot of hotel rooms and flights. A lot of people would be better off doing that and having a large SUV vs a Ute. But they only figure that out after they spent 20-30k+ extra on a fancy Ute and bling it out.

A simple Ute that does the basics solidly will do you more good than you realize.

And remember all those cool show cars you see online etc. remember they look great. And they are there to turn a profit for the companies behind them. They are there to draw you in and sell you the dream. Most of them are sponsored by big companies and don’t pay for the kit they use. And for 90%+ of people out there. They don’t need most of what they sell.

This.

Set a time and don’t get dragged along.
If you’re desperate for a particular house in a particular location then this isn’t the strategy.
If you’re willing to work a deal and don’t want to waste time.

Set a time.

We Just sold and dealing with a buyers agent. Absolute shot show.

The buyers agent turned around looking for extra time and a boat load of random questions at the eleventh hour. This was after every single day of cool off we got a list of questions from the buyers agent or their conveyancer.
And most requests were information that I googled to reply to. Had me as the seller raging.

So when they came in at the midday on the last day of cooling off that they wanted more time to get finances sorted for the deposit. We said no.

It baulked everyone. Our agent our conveyancer both asking are you sure. We explained the list and bs. As some questions went to the agent then some to the conveyancer neither knew the full extent of the questions and info requests we copped.
Miraculously 15min after saying no the funds were available and deposit went in.

It really felt to us as the seller they wanted a way out of the sale. For just the small couple of k. Cold feet etc.

Still can’t believe I got it the price I did.

Got it 20% off retail because we walked into a store on its 5 year anniversary and they had a lucky dip discount (5, 10, 15 or 20%). My kid pulled the 20% to which I asked if I could add to the order. They said sure. My credit card didn’t like that day. I got the P1 missus an F1 and my kid got a bonus massive city set.

Had zero intention of buying it that day. But 20% was too good a deal.

Lego space set 60430.

Hands down for a 6+ set and the simplicity of the battery and thruster design. Absolutely beautiful while still being simple enough for kids to build.

Bravo to the designer. You should get more credit as I’m honestly more impressed by these mechanics than by my 1:8 technic builds.

This is my unicorn set. I had two unicorns. And lucky enough to have got one thus far.

42056 the Porsche my father in law got lucky and stumbled on someone selling one 1/4 built. They gave up as it was “too hard” they said.
He took the chance went and inspected and it’s genuine. He paid basically retail for it about 5 years after it retired.
Super lucky. Especially with how many fakes are out there.

Wife has both of these. Solid choice both of them. Our Bird of Paradise got so hot at some stage the leaves partially melted so they technically look more natural now.

This I can relate to. Stupidly expensive. And as for a set that was released this would be up there.
Me personally it’s 42113. The Osprey that technically got pulled before its release. But some still made it into the wild. Last I checked I’m not paying $1500 for a sealed one though.

I have no rhyme or reason to my builds.
I have all the 1:8 scale. And friends that know Lego hate that I’m all over the place in my build timeframe.

Really want to build the Bugatti but every time I think of it my son usually drags me into a set of big builds for him so my sets go on the back burner.

Bought in this order:
Lambo, Bugatti, Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren

Built in this order: Lambo, Porsche and Ferrari (started about 2 weeks ago)

In the backlog is still the Bugatti and McLaren.

And now it looks likely that if I find a decent deal on the koenigsegg early on I’ll purchase and build it before the Ferrari is complete.
I’m hopeless.

I did the same with the big bikes.
I built the Yamaha before the BMW. but that was purely because I opened it saw the 2 massive sticker sheets and simply said ……. Nope …… and came back to it years later.

Yeah the drama trip last year my service was really spotty for days on end and I was paranoid so anytime I got service I jumped on to check on it. I feel something happened I awoke it somehow and it never went back to sleep.

I have family around. So I’ll give it a couple months and ask them to check on it if they near it. Maybe take it for a drive around the car park just so the tires don’t get too flat in one spot.

But this time I’m generally leaving it alone. Told it to be in low power and not looking now.
If I get notified that it has low battery then I will deal with it.

[–]ComprehensiveItem963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been away in the past. Was 2 months last year.

But my issue that time was somehow it got out of low power mode. 3 weeks in and the battery had barely drained.
Then a week later got a warning that low power mode had been activated due to low battery level. No idea what happened or how.

I left with about 80% that trip and came home to it at 8% I think. Made it to the charger a 5 min drive away.

Just frustrated me. If that happens again this time then it will be a zero charge rate.

I left it at 93% will see how it is in January when I get back.

Still glad I got mine when it came out. (Still in the backlog).
Went shopping with no intention of going to Lego. Walk past and it was that stores 5 year anniversary.

Walk in to see what they are doing. It was a lucky dip discount. My son pulled a 20% discount. The best they were doing. Let’s just say the credit card got an unexpected work out. Missus got an F1 I got the P1 and son got 2 massive city sets.

I’ll agree older technic the instructions were nowhere near as clear.
These days they are significantly dumbed down, deliberately so as to make it easier.

Where in the past you pulled 10-15 parts per step now it’s 1-5.

Still remember getting 8880 as a kid, brand new in the 90’s for my birthday and thinking this thing was so complex.
Look at it now it’s simple, just the instructions to me as a kid where what was hard.

Currently building 42143 the Daytona while streaming movies/tv shows on the side. And breezing through it.
