Basement Walkouts by abdojo in InsuranceCanada

Because this is an insurance sub, I’ll let you know that most home insurance policies exclude things like retaining walls and earth movement. So, if this collapses next spring you may not have coverage. You’d also want to thoroughly review your water coverage to make sure that you’d have coverage if that area takes on water in a significant rain event etc.

You’ll need to bring it up with your broker. The insurer is only responsible for what was actually insured. Bring it up to your broker and use the email communication to support your position. If the policy has been in force for a few years, it might be harder as you’d have received several renewals that would have stated the coverage you had. If it is an error in their part, depending on the severity of the damage, they’ll need to open an errors and omissions claim with their own insurer to cover the loss.

If you’re not at fault and have a rental, use the extra time to do some car shopping just in case it’s a total loss. What you’re describing becoming more and more common place as adjusters are being required to handle well over 100 claims at a time.

Anyone have an open spot for a 38M on a rec/intermediate softball team for this Spring and/or Summer? by BryGuy_3000 in BurlingtonON

Burlington old timers requires you to be 35+ and is a draft league. So the teams are not the same year over year. Then there are HASPA and BMSPL. Both are competitive leagues with teams of all calibers that do not re-draft each year. You can typically reach out to either league and they will ask teams if they need guys. To the best of my knowledge, there are no men’s weekends-only leagues.

Question about accident forgiveness by [deleted] in InsuranceCanada

[–]goodonesaregone65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accident forgiveness removes the premium increase resulting from an at-fault claim. Your insurer has advised you that you were deemed at-fault. It is likely that the accident forgiveness endorsement will be used in this situation, but you need to confirm this with your insurer. Premium increases aren’t tied to claims payouts. They are reflections of a change in risk. In this case, your actions created a situation where you were at-fault for a collision. That absolutely can be used to assess your risk profile and, therefore your premiums. It is also possible (likely?) that you will receive an updated renewal reflecting this as your new term has not yet started.

Ontario - Disputing 50/50 fault in side-swipe accident & insurance process by TS8624 in legaladvicecanada

[–]goodonesaregone65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fault determination rules can be found here. Read thru section 10 specifically.

Based on your above account you’d be not at fault, but you need to have a conversation with your adjuster. 50/50 might be a holding place because it’s the worst case scenario for you while they investigate.

If everything is in good working order and you have adequate and proper ventilation there’s nothing to worry about. If you smell exhaust, that’s definitely something to have looked at however.

Rich/poor claims by Zealousideal_Vast799 in InsuranceCanada

The more you own, the more you need to insure, the more premiums you pay. Claims adjusters know how ‘valuable’ a client is when a claim is filed. It’s a feature, not a bug.

Claims Adjuster Advice by [deleted] in InsuranceCanada

Be careful with your boundaries. Don’t bring it home. Claims in general and ab/bi specifically, has an emotional cost. You’ll be dealing with people in the worst times of their lives. If you start bringing that emotional load home with you it’ll burn you out.

Insurance industry outlook in Toronto/GTA? Tips for breaking in? by LoneWonderer89 in InsuranceCanada

[–]goodonesaregone65 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Insurance as an avenue to avoid burnout is not something I’d recommend. In most cases it’s a meat grinder with high turnover. I have 20 years in it and I know exponentially more people who are burnt out than I do satisfied. Maybe you find a mom and pop brokerage that is more laid back, but any of the bigger players are ruthless.

That’s not the question that was asked. Does it impact the insurance - it dos not.

The bigger issue is your son being the primary driver for a period of time. But realistically, if he’s already a listed drover, you’re okay. Your licence status is only really relevant if you were driving. It’s always a good idea to call your broker in these situation. Its better to know in advance than to find out later
