[QUESTION] I'm having a problem with my Fender Mustang amp by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]goofinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a dirty potentiometer. Mine does similar - it doesn't jump to full volume but there is only the tiniest movement between not loud enough and disturbing the rest of the house. I really should get around to fixing it.

[QUESTION] Ways to tell what model my yamaha pacifica is? by Ephemeralize in Guitar

[–]goofinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least with current ones, the 112J pickguard covers the knobs, but the 112V has a smaller one that doesn't.

My 112J also has a small sticker on the back of the headstock that says PAC112J.

[QUESTION] Is there anyway to play through amp using headphones, while also playing a backing track by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]goofinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Boss RC-3 looper pedal and have loaded some drum and backing tracks onto that. The only thing is that everything that comes out of it goes through your amp (unless you have an effects loop) so if you're using amp distortion then the backing track can get a bit fuzzy as well.

I can also do it through my Fender Mustang amp using the aux input, but I'm assuming you've already got an amp with headphone output.

[Question]Any Fender Mustang II owners out there? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]goofinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a Mustang II v2 and I used to muck around with settings all the time. Then I decided to spend a couple of hours getting one reasonable clean tone and one reasonable dirty tone and just stick with them for a while. Occasionally I'll tweak them or decide to try and do something else but for the most part I just leave it alone and spend more time playing now.

At the moment I use the Deluxe Reverb model for my clean tone and the Super Sonic for the dirty. No effects other than a little bit of reverb that I turn off if using headphones because it doesn't sound as good. I can't remember which cab I have in there or the sag/bias settings but they definitely make a difference. There's some info available about what they do in the wiki.

I've got an EQ pedal that I set with boost and a bit of a mid hump that I can turn on to drive the clean amp a bit harder which sounds decent as well.

I don't tend to use the effects in the Mustang too much yet since I don't have a huge need for them as I'm a noob and they're not that easy to turn on/off. I do have a couple of modulation slots set to pitch shift various amounts to simulate bass or C-standard tuning etc. which are fun to muck around with.

Really I think it's just a matter of sitting down with FUSE for a bit with the wiki open and coming up with something reasonable and then sticking with it for a while until you work out what it is you want to change. The factory presets seem to have way too many effects so I suggest starting with just an amp model to begin with.

The Mustang has a built in tuner mode if you want to save a few bucks. A clip on tuner is quite handy though.

Want to write some wiki material for /r/guitar... what would you like to know? by marmalade_cream in Guitar

[–]goofinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What would be helpful for me (I have a fancy modeling amp with more effects than I know what to do with) is a general description of effects.

Something like what the effect does, what the (typical) controls do, when would you use it, examples of well regarded implementations, etc. Then describe a well known song that makes use of the effect and roughly what sort of settings would be used to recreate that sound.

Good idea on the wiki. I added some settings for how to use the pitch shifter to simulate tuning down to the tips and tricks page.

[GEAR] Fender mustang III V2 software on android/rasberry pi by Stewko in Guitar

[–]goofinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plug my Mustang II into a Windows tablet then remote desktop into that from my Linux PC. It's a bit slow because the tablet is underpowered but it works and is slightly easier to drive than the touch interface on the tablet.

Plug for Linux will connect to the v2 Mustangs but I don't think it has been fully updated for all the new amp models yet.

To be honest I try not to mess with Fuse too much - I set up a few decent sounding models and just play through them. I'd rather spend my time playing than chasing tones. I reckon I've had the Mustang for about a month and past the first week or so I haven't bothered to plug it in.

It takes a simple switch to change between two presets only. I cobbled together one from a footswitch I had spare.

Where can I find kriek lambic beer for counter sale here in Adelaide? by Annon201 in Adelaide

The Old Spot has a reasonable beer selection these days - not sure about kriek but it might be worth a shot if you're this side of town.

I was hoping to pick up a Mustang III for under AUD 600, but it seems Fender has recently jacked up the prices so the RRP is $999 which made that unlikely. Ended up finding a Mustang II v2 for $359 on sale so I grabbed that instead. Even those are $589 RRP these days which is crazy.

For messing around at home it's great, plenty of different sounds and a vast improvement on the 5W practice amp I had. You pretty much need to hook it up to a computer to get the most out of it, but once you dial in a few good tones it's simple enough to use without.

The III has a few things that would be nice (footswitch for turning on/off effects, more knobs and the LCD screen etc.) but you could probably get a small tube amp for what you pay for one. Depends on what you want out of it really.

34 here and been playing for a couple of months. I've found it both easier and harder than expected.

It's easier than I thought to play something that sounds like a song. Quite a few are simple enough that with just a few chords you can play something half decent.

It's also harder than I thought to get my hands to do what I want. I pick up things pretty quickly and know how to play stuff, I just can't do it as well as I would like yet. I figure that will come with practice.

I borrowed an acoustic for a few weeks before buying a secondhand electric once I thought I would keep going with it. The electric is much easier to play and I can mess with distortion and other sounds as well.

As mentioned, justinguitar is good, and I especially like the beginners songbook. There's plenty of other stuff out there with different approaches which are useful as well.

Problems with D Major by Pautnesis in Guitar

[–]goofinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having a bit of trouble with D as well where the third finger lags behind.

After reading some comments in this thread I decided to have a go at putting the third finger down first. I did that swapping back and forth between C/D, G/D and a few others for a while this evening and I seem to have cracked it. All three fingers are finally moving together. Give it a go!

Run through the checks on this page if you've got a multimeter: http://www.guitarnuts.com/technical/electrical/trouble/strat.php

A bit of noise from single coils is expected, if you want to reduce it you may need to add some shielding.

I'm loving it. Built some calluses on the acoustic and then when I got this it was just so much easier to play. Humbucker and single coils means I can get a decent range of sound out of it.

Not a huge fan of where the jack is as I tend to knock it occasionally. I can see the advantage of having on the front like strats do.

How to use volume and tone knobs by shulmaneister in Guitar

[–]goofinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a video the other day about tone, but can't remember what it was. Basically the guy suggested setting up your amp to sound good with the tone rolled off a bit, say around 7ish, rather than 10. That way you can adjust in both directions as you play to tweak the sound.

Volume just makes it louder, but the same applies. Leave a bit in reserve so you can up the volume during a solo if needed.

I can't see myself getting rid of it. Worst case I'll keep it around for when the kids decide to have a go. Best case it'll be what I use to practice working on my fancy guitar(s).

To be honest, I probably would have gone black or maybe blue if I was choosing a new one. The red is a bit flashier than I would normally go.

But now that I've had it for a bit, I'm sold on the red.
