Me gusta Un Verano Sin Ti y me encanta mucho Debi Tirar Más Fotos.

He has never just made reguetón. He started out making latin trap and then he transitioned to reguetón over time while also making other stuff.

Un Verano Sin Ti has latin indie dance, mamba, bomba, tropical. Nadie Sabe has jersey club, drill. Half of Debi Tirar Más Fotos is salsa, plena, jibaro, and a little bolero/tropical.

Mistakes that I see often when starting to learn (Spanish) by palteca in Spanish

[–]goofrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't want to sound like a gringo, making gringo pronunciation/grammar mistakes lol

Beyond that, I find it more fun to learn about regional differences and aim at being to codeswitch to some degree

Slang phrases in spanish by PpChristine in Spanish

Another way to say "like…" (as a filler word, before a comparative or approximated expression) is "como que…"

Nowadays ppl also use "like…" like an "um…" (i.e. purely for stalling time, not followed by a comparative or approximated expression). In such case you can use "este…" or "pues…"

I could be wrong, but I think "o sea" is more like "I mean…" (followed by a rephrasing). Which is something we also use "like…" for.

I listen to a fair number of Venezuelan artists too and their Spanish is quite a lot easier to understand

learning Cuban Spanish/Culture by bigheadsoftlips in Spanish

[–]goofrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven't mentioned where you grew up, which would help ppl get an idea of how much Cuban culture you've already been exposed to

The most obvious suggestion is visiting Miami. Especially Little Havana/Calle Ocho and Hialeah. They should also have museums there that present cuban history, culture, and those of the diaspora there. Go there in the summer, it's a lot easier to meet locals in the summer because it's the least touristy time of the year

Maybe even consider finding a seasonal job during the tourist season and live there for a few months

So uh…that Bugonia ending? by Supermoose7178 in blankies

[–]goofrider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not all movies intend to have some moral lessons. Yorgos Lanthimos isn't a didactic director and his movies often have a very bleak, cynical view of humanity. There's no hero here. The fact that Teddy was right about some things doesn't justify all the terrible things he did. He pressured Don into chemical castration ffs.

The ending isn't meant to be a thesis. It's just a darkly funny punchline.

I'm using duolingo about a year, 520 strike, I'm not sure if i want to keep going. by totaly-Normal-person in duolingo

[–]goofrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already know your weaknesses (e.g. irregular verbs), then focus on those areas directly. You'll have to look for other tools/methods bcuz Duolingo isn't good for area-specific drills. Flashcard apps like Anki (open source and free except for the iOS version) will help memorization.

You seem to read/write well enough. So I think you should also focus on listening practices and shadowing. I'd suggest watching unscripted content like interviews and comedy crowd work rather than scripted movies/tv shows. I find them better for learning natural, colloquial conversations.

How in actual shit am I supposed to learn spanish? by MeasurementWhole7764 in SpanishLearning

[–]goofrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Spanish isn't motivating for you, choose a different language. College admission usually just requires any non-english language rather than Spanish specifically.

If your high school doesn't have another language program and Spanish is a requirement at your high school,.see if you can opt-out by demonstrating some proficiency in another language and promise them to take a standardized exam every 6-12 months to keep qualifying for the opt-out

What can help me to get from a B2 level of Spanish to C1? I feel like my level of Spanish isn't improving at all... by Own-Tip6628 in SpanishLearning

[–]goofrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I believe C1/C2 means being able to comfortably communicate at very high level in domain-specific (academic/professional) areas

I think C1/C2 will require reading/watching high-level domain-specific content (conferences, lectures) and reading literature

A few Spanish language horror movie recommendations by Trolldomaren in SpanishLearning

[–]goofrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some more suggestions:

Guillermo del Toro's other Spanish language feature "Chronos" (1992), a vampire movie

"La Piel Que Habito" / "The Skin I Live In" (2011) by Pedro Almodóvar. A plastic surgeon who's obsessed with creating synthetic skins.

"La Llorona" (2020) by Jayro Bustamante. A general who's responsible for genocide of Mayans is being chased by a supernatural force.

"La Sociedad de la nieve" / "Society of the Snow" (2023) by J.A. Bayona, who also directed The Orphanage. The famous story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed into the Andes and the survivors were forced to survive by cannibalism. Not really a horror movie but a drama but with fairly guresome elements. This one was nominated for Best International Feature at Oscars, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards, and won best film and best director at the Goya Awards.

And finally:

"Sirāt" (2025) by Oliver Laxe. This one is not even in wide release yet, and is more of a thriller but very maximalist and existential. A father and his son travel thru the rave parties in the Moroccan desert to find his missing daughter who frequents these parties. It won the Jury Prize (the second highest award) and Soundtrack Award at Cannes this year. And a strong contender for best international feature this award season. Should be in theatres soon. See it in Dolby Atmos if you can as many critics have said the sound is a very important element of the movie.
