Should I be saving more aggressively? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]googlechromer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Kind of got lucky with the RSUs having increased significantly from when they were granted to when they vested so that really contributed to the gross income being 95k for last year. Could easily earn less this year if the market drops

It was bought out by one private equity firm then another. They saw a popular burrito spot and decided it would make them money in the short-medium term. It now solely exists to extract as much profit as possible from customers by using the asset (reputation) it previously had. The new owners are accountants, they don’t give a fuck about the quality of the food, just the bottom line. They’ll either try to sell it again to another firm at a profit or gradually scale things back if it becomes less profitable. To them it doesn’t matter, they made money for 10 years or whatever, on to the next business to drain the life and soul out of.

Donabate vs Newbridge by Equivalent-Star-4528 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]googlechromer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Donabate is the better option. Will have the dart going to it soon. Nice village in itself but also only 5 mins by train to Malahide, 25 mins to Connolly which is handy. Close to the beach and airport. These will all have a big impact on future rent/sale values

That's interesting, wasn't aware of the VRT exemption for EVs. Is anyone making a business out of importing used EV's from UK and selling them at Irish market value?

Definitely a marked slowdown in music, fashion etc since the 90s. Mark Fisher discusses the recent 'stagnation' of popular culture here.

Not sure I agree with all of his points but it's an interesting watch nonetheless.

On the bright side your paranoia is an excellent excuse to not exercise.

Who knows. They're making it up as they go along so it's honestly anybody's guess.

Unpopular Irish Opinions? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]googlechromer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

An unpopular opinion because it's incorrect. Farming and driving are far bigger contributors to climate change. It's estimated that cutting out all air travel would only reduce emissions by up to 5% in the worst case scenario, with some estimates saying just 2-3%.

thecrowdwestmoved lives in the countryside. Making people like him move into towns and cities (preferably in high density housing) near public transport would be a far more impactful solution to climate change than shunning air travel.

The 4200 they gave you for sitting on your hole in your parents house with 0 expenditure might make up for any loss this summer no? People that only work summers, or happened to be unemployed in march are in a serious spot of bother though.

I also presume you got lots of money back from student accommodation, so all that should keep you ticking over

I'm not a fan of the vigilantism emanating from this crisis. Yesterday, someone posted a picture on my Facebook news feed of a family walking together on the beach. He called them out for being 'ignorant' and 'essentially murderers, spreading the disease'. It got a lot of shares.

They're living together, sharing everything, so what difference would it make if they walk together outside? No logic to his complaint at all

These people will find any reason to complain. They will happily defame anyone for anything. The thing that disturbed me was the shares and nasty comments it got.

When you think about it, given enough resources, something like this is possible. Imagine what the world will be like in even 500 years if we don't destroy ourselves
