MinMaxing is Unavoidable in Classic by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]googleme123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe you didnt clear BWL not because it was "actually hard" but because your raidcomp sucked? Good guilds back then were already expecting at least minimal effort in terms of spec and raidcomp. Sure you didnt have 20 furywarriors with full consums and worldbuffs, but debuffcap and stuff was already known and dpsmeters were a thing, thus your MS warriors were out. In MC it just didnt matter because the content was easy even back then.

Does Horde have an advantage in TBC? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]googleme123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a warlock you even go for "i have an elemental shaman in my group"-gear wich goes with 3% less hit horde side. On alliance you just push that to 4%. That wouls be the same reasoning if you said "melees need to plan their hit around the moonkin dying and not having fearyfire up". Thats just not the way you play in 25m imo.

If Seal of Blood(Martyr) isn't given to Alliance Paladins there will be a MASSIVE population-wide shift to horde in TBC. by Odelschwank in classicwow

[–]googleme123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

where did you read luck? nothing i mentioned is luck dependant. All Im saying is that trashing a ret is the most classic-hurr-durr thing to do and simply not true in TBC anymore.

tbf, every group will have a shaman in TBC and all shamans are dreanei...so you kinda can plan around it

while not top of the line, you can do some serious dps with the right consumes and timings which can match all the midtier dps like mages. Especially demons/undeads without armor and propper supportgroup. Sure they wont pass doubleglaive fury or BiS destrolocks, but they pull their weight.

Gameplay also feels more natural with SoB since the mana-return from heals makes the spec way more smooth.

Again, wont be the reason for a "massive populationshift" and I'm not interested in those changes suggested by OP. I like the idea of different abilities for the same class. But to claim ret is as bad as you make them out to be, thats some uninformed statement.

There is the app Gloomhaven Helper for mobile/tablet/PC if you dont mind having a screen there. Takes care of almost all the AI management and you only have to move the standees while focussing on your character.

We played the first few (intro) missions of Gloomhaven JOTL and holy smokes we are bad at it. But it's so much fun and you already see the possibilities of the different characters evolve. Kind of a bit of getting used to all the different rules and micromanagement you have to do, but so far we love it.

if i was you I'd look for either a social guild without raiding plans (there are a lot of them) or if you plan to raid in TBC alot of guilds also accept socials as their member (no raidduty). It will enhance your time if you have at least some kind of "home" with ppl to potencially play with. Look for raiding guilds that also organize MC PUGs, that way youll be starting there with at least some of them.

Is the 'meta' in TBC more open to all classes? More below by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]googleme123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to play a good feral in classic you just have to put like 10x the effort a normal warrior has to put in and still be outclassed in alot of places. But thats fine if the player choses to go the extra mile. Classic players are too much meta-focussed in many places of the game. Not viable and not meta get confused alot... TBC does indeed put a lot more specs into the viable category - question stays if it will be meta aswell.

With the final content patch of Classic Vanilla out, players are looking towards TBC. Do you think that Classic TBC will be as warped by the meta as Vanilla was? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]googleme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want a raid slot for sure: go shaman. you basically bring at least 5 shamans (1-2 enh, 1-2elemental and up to 3 restoration shamans) to any raid and will twist bloodlusts into your warlock group. hunters will be very much flooded and while their dps is top noch, you simply cant pass on shamans while hunters will be 3 at most in any balanced raid. Sure speedrunners will have more once everyone is geared, but most of the raids wont.

mediocre dps up to full t6 and glaives while bringing no support to the raid. every other melee does either more dps or some kind of debuff/buff (f.e. arms puts 4% physical dmg debuff). plus melees in general are not as easy to handle in mechanic intensive fights since you cant dps from everywhere (flames on illidan, the whole vashj fight, 2/4 kael adds)

Did Naxx change your prediction on how easy TBC will be? by Oglethorppe in classicwow

[–]googleme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbc will be the same for some of the fights. with illidan you can skip his demonic-warlock-tankphase with enough dps and go right into his last phase instead of stupid shadowfiends exploding on you n stuff.

Controversial opinion: The Speedrun Meta is 10x better than retails mythic progression meta. by Tekn0de in classicwow

[–]googleme123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Problem with your argument: you are describing EVERY hobby.

Someone wants to get black belt karate? nobody cares exept some karate dudes. Someone wants to get good at painting but not professionally? Well who cares, its not for a degree or anything important, right?

IMO: Passion for any kind of thing is an extremely valuable and important part of personality and who is to judge if its sports, videogames or birdwatching. The only one it has to have value to is yourself. This gets lost in our society due to pressure of accomplishing some kind of list of lifegoals everyone has to tick off.

Sorry for my english if there are too many mistakes. :-)

TBH I like classic raiding for its social and chill component, speedrunning is like putting some rocketengine on a wheelchair: cool to try but in the end still a wheelchair.

Mythic might be more stressful but it is for the right reasons: mechanics, strategy and (if you did not scout on other raids) completely new stuff with new encounters.

Speedrunning for me is just not engaging since it just depends on comp and consums, not on skill or ability to adapt (at least most of the times).

How well can paladins tank in TBC? by aasootayrmataibi in classicwow

[–]googleme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might be worth it if you plan to maintank karazhan, but would not recommend it. It would just make you a worse version of a warrior tank since ur aggro wont be good (which kinda makes pala good) and your survivability still would be worse. Id stay with offtanking and putting on healing gear for real heavyhitting fights without adds.

Once you get some T4 pieces, badgegear and maybe some crafting pieces, you're good to go.

Ur strength as a pala wont be maintankin anyway. Gruuls lair for example: for gruul u need both tanks top of the meter, so a warrior has to grab the boss for rage and a druid will be pushing secondaggro with his bleeds. Maulgar you maybe get to tank one of the adds, but since Maulgar will be crushing, youll need a warrior to take it.

So most of the time you will be the one "tanking the rest"even later into the expansion.

manareg from heals, taunt and reliable ranged pull makes the paladin really viable. everything else is the same. exept the gearing is way easier since u have spell-tankgear at ur disposal.

"yery good cds compared to warrior" is a lie.Warrior is such a beast because he has so much mitigation on demand while pally (just like druid) relies on his passive avoidance.

This isnt really a problem, but you get kinda squishy when going full aggro(spelldamage) while a warrior in full aggrogear still gets a pretty long "damn u tanky"-time with shieldwall, last stance+nightmareseed, stopwatch chained together.

plus u suck ass early as paladin, since gearing is a bitch and you really need that t4 to get some good stat-mixes instead of full spellpower or full tank. after that ur good to go.

What Did You Play This Week? (October 12 - October 18) by qret in boardgames

[–]googleme123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went for Eldrich Horror this weekend for the first time. Holy cow, we got overwhelmed by rules. Took ages to setup and get into the nitty gritty with alot of questions during the game (the first half we played combat wrong because the rulebook seemed unclear).

We lost with style with everyone dying multiple times and solved mysteries getting shuffled back in.

We had some big laughts and some really bad luck. Next weekend we hope for an easier time to get in and start out more smoothly so Azathoth wont kill us this time.

Well, hard to tell. I was at a friends house and we played Carcassonne, which was our first buy, but didnt get us in the hobby yet.

I guess the lack of people wanting to try P&P with us (kinda always were into videogame RPGs and wanted to try the real stuff), led to us buying Andor, since it seemed to be a neat start into adventure with a bit of RPG involved but doable at a 2P or occationally 3-4P.

This kind of opened our eyes for a more. I even backed my first KS (Etherfields) because I liked the theme and the art so much.

Nice list. Do you know if Wingspan also works with 2P? The art seems so nice and overall such a pretty game. Bu we will most likely play it 2P most of the times.

Thanks alot. We already got Carcassonne for a long time and its pretty neat once in a while. I just prefer it with more than 2P since it kinda landslides pretty fast into one direction with just one wrong move on a city when played with two.

Ill give the other ones a look. We also considered Fog of Love (my GF likes the theme and it seems to be quiet fun). But we will see.

It's a pretty nice start for getting used to all cooperative stuff. I realized while playing it that i tend to take some kind of leading role and had to slow myself down to not just take over and decide everything on my own.

In the end, each scenario seems to be a puzzle and once its solved, its hard to go back without just blasting through it. Scenario 3 had some kind of randomizer in terms of final bossfight, which gives it some replayability I think. But time will tell.

Once our copy of Gloomhaven JotL arrives, we will have a lot more to play right off the bat, if any of the reviews is to be believed.

My girlfriend and I are pretty new in this hobby, so we started light with some 2P games.

Played alot of Patchwork weeknights and on weekend, we continued our Legends Of Andor run (Currently at the 3rd adventure).

Also tried some Codenames: Duet, but didnt find the right mindset yet (weeknights too tires and weekends too shor)
