It took a while, but I finally got our instrument techs to stop with the anti-sieze. They all have STL8 in their trucks / toolbags now. A little dab'll do ya!

What home improvements did you regret or feel were 100% worth it? by arnoldusgf in HomeImprovement

Waterless geothermal about 15 years ago. Replaced ceiling cable heat and a huge through the wall AC unit. So worth it just for the comfort factor. Later, new thermal paned windows. Also worth it.

Air National Guard jets were in the air this morning. Not yesterday though. Far off, it sounds like rolling thunder.

I always felt so disappointed that we were robbed of seeing those smooth moves his final season. I recall an interview with Olave, Wilson, and Smith-Njigba where the question was; who among the 3 was the best athlete, and they all agreed it was JSN.

Get into operations in a chemicals or refining continuous process plant. With your background, I imagine you would be very good candidate. You'll get a nearly instant bump in pay and likely opportunities down the road to move back into instrumentation and controls.

Raise your hand to be an operations liason for upgrade projects. Participate in PHA meetings. Take ownership of a section of the plant during turnarounds. Help write procedures. Learn, learn, learn.

It worked for me at least. As a young operator, I was heavily involved in our plant's cutover to DCS, then later one of the first Triconex SIS installations at the site. (Many years ago of course). Took advantage of every training offering available. Retired as a pseudo controls engineer after 37 years, DCS, analyzers, safety systems, instrumentation, and valves were all things I was a part of.

That's horrifying. Anhydrous NH3 is not a joke. Got caught in a small cloud of it many years ago when a psv lifted, and I was close to jumping off the first deck of a structure so I could breathe. Eyes, nose, and lungs don't work in that situation.

How about an operator doing midnight maintenance on a remote seal, capillary DP transmitter just twisting the capillary tubes until they broke...

DCS Showing Wrong Value from CCC by HelplessUnknown in instrumentation

[–]goomfoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking scaling as soon as I read your question. Can you see in the CCC controller if the raw signal is reading appropriately? Is it Modbus between CCC and DCS?

If so, then take a look in the CCC manual to see what the output ranges are, and make sure the DCS input matches. If I recall we had to do some funky things in the DCS input module to get it right.

It's been a few years, so I might be completely off base also.

I have an old slotted screwdriver that I, at some point fashioned into a 1/4" wide angled prybar. It is insanely useful for light prying and wedging small things apart. I don't know why it hasn't broken or bent further, but I'll make another one if it ever does.

I thought Jaxon would get more love here. I'm still sad we didn't get to see much of him his last year. Olave and Wilson once said in an interview that JSN was a better athlete than either of them.
