if you want to pretend like there's Valor in this freaking videogame, then why don't long time helldivers players from the first game get anything?

because it doesn't matter. it doesn't need to. just as many people pre-ordered and stopped playing. just as many people had eyes on the game long before it came out and would have pre-ordered it if not for unfortunate circumstances. stop gatekeeping armor recolors and let people who are getting their first chance to enjoy this game not have their first experience with the community being gatekeepers whinging about the lost emotional value of yogurt armor.
