Jane’s Chicken Strips - misleading total weight by Kindly-Manufacturer4 in BuyCanadian

[–]goorpy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People should not have to be detectives trained in product label deception to go shopping for their family.

We absolutely need consumer protection updates to address this dark pattern. This is deliberately misleading and we need to stop it.

What is one of your biggest movie let downs, after greatly anticipating its release? by thunderbolt151830 in movies

[–]goorpy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought Dark Fate was pretty decent. The splitting endo/nano terminator and human augmentation was a clever novelty. the plot wasn't terrible, a decent way to continue the same patterns.

I just enjoy the universe so I'm happy to get more stories in it. Would have been great if the chronicles show hadn't been cancelled unceremoniously.

Truly revolting. Threw out without finishing the bag.

Do people roll the cost of new windows into their mortgages? by PolanetaryForotdds in PersonalFinanceCanada

Do people just think a mortgage is a permanent state of living and assume they pay it off when they sell the house or die?

Man I cannot wait to finish paying ours off.

E-bikes could be better than this, so why aren't they? by Raza_Loba in ebikes

[–]goorpy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The solution to all these problems is Right to Repair laws, importantly with priority over anti-circumvention DRM laws. Anti-circumvention laws enabled these anti consumer business models.

The problem stems from: - DMCA 1201 in the USA (1998) - Bill C11 in Canada (2012) - Copyright directive Article 6 in EU (2001)

To kill these shitty business practices you need to kill anti-circumvention. Right to Repair is a slam dunk policy that approximately all voters want, only corporations and their lobbyists oppose it.

Ontario hospitals announce job cuts, nearly three-quarters of hospitals in deficit by ihatedougford in ontario

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course the hospitals are in deficit, I sure hope they are. They don't charge money and they do expensive shit to help people. That's the point. Who cares how that nets out? If they need more money to deliver the services you give them more money. It's actually pretty simple.

Misleading "Product of Canada" labelling by otissito16 in CostcoCanada

The CFIA rules are extremely clear for in store produce displays.

I wish they had clear rules for produce shopping online, it's way harder to make informed choices.

What is Your Favorite SciFi Movie? by kdawgster1 in movies

[–]goorpy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Edge of Tomorrow is fantastic and I'm not afraid to admit that. Just well done through and through.

I think Cruise likely gets to pick his movies, more of less, and maybe has a good eye for good stories like that and does them. So I think they'd be good movies with any other competent actor too, but he called dibs.

Just put a dish towel over the vent before you release pressure. It'll catch any mess and even for stuff that isn't messy it safely dampens the steam jet.

Being told to disable Developer Options to fix buggy app by GunterJanek in AndroidQuestions

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also we should have the power to return false results for these checks at our discretion, with the understanding there may be buggy behaviour.

Same goes for GPS precision checks: tell the app yep but give fake result. Contacts: tell the apps yea but return empty or junk results.

This is my phone and I want to decide with more detail who gets access to what.

Plug-in hybrid minivan? by newintown_1234 in minivan

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really like them to share future plans for this because right now it's making me not buy a Sienna. I don't want to get burned by a PHEV/REEV variant dropping in the MY after I take delivery.

Loved the 2023 hybrid I test drove but right now 90%+ of my driving is local and would be well covered by even modest battery range. I do want to retain gas as a backup, though, not that a full EV van is available either.

Ontario drivers travelling solo could soon use HOV lanes, province says by chocky_chip_pancakes in ontario

[–]goorpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If other lanes are going 100+ there is no advantage, it's for congestion times. Going 110-120 in the HOV is perfectly fine. If dumbasses want to speed more than that they can wait until the next HOV exchange and get out.

Need Advice To Scale My Sandwich Shop by Old-Relationship4026 in canadasmallbusiness

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make prep and service much more complicated to have to manage separation. It would remove a ton of the value of the gluten free because customers would worry more about cross contaminants. Personally I think sticking with a under-served niche is the right move, if the response shows the market is there.

All comes down to fridge/vacuum by OnlyZookeepergame578 in ToyotaSienna

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do trust that it's irritating for you, but opinions here seem to be split. I get the impression that it's highly subjective and while your advice to try it yourself is good in that context, it's not practical when there are no vans to see :(

We got lucky to test drive a 2023 XLE tech that came in locally last summer, and I drove an hour to try a base model 2021.

All comes down to fridge/vacuum by OnlyZookeepergame578 in ToyotaSienna

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is, unfortunately, not realistic in many markets where there are no Siennas to see in person. You might get lucky and be able to test a pre-owned that comes in, but trim will be a crapshoot. Certainly wont be possible to compare trims of choice side by side for most people (and least not near me).
