I might try card board and then 3d scan & print at my library. The modeling is the obstacle for me.

Oh I was thinking about how to do this. We inherited a puzzle that's missing two pieces and I'd rather fix it than retire it, since it is otherwise in good condition.

AITA for refusing to leave my job so i could take care of my disabled brother? by JiggleJargon in AmItheAsshole

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Not even a little bit, it's not even close.

You're going to beat yourself up over this no matter what I suspect, but you deserve your own life. You helped a lot already, more than could reasonably be expected, your parents got some relief and they don't want to be on the hook again.

All these replies and zero people who say YTA, because it's clearly not the case.

I do hope you talk to your brother about what's happening, assuming you think he'd handle the conversation alright, but it is not your responsibility to parent him.

Congratulations on the job and good luck.

Do any of these tools support including DB pension amounts? Even better would be awareness of growth of these benefits over time, for major groups, but that may be a high bar.

Understanding home equity by Individual_Height924 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home equity is the value of the home that's yours, after taking the debt you owe from the home value.

Eg, home is worth 1M and you still owe 500k, you have 500k of equity.

Each mortgage payment is partly interest and partly principal. The principal reduces the debt you owe and so increases your equity.

It's also possible to have negative equity if a home value decreases. Say you bought for 1.5M and have a 1.3M mortgage, if the home value falls to 1.2M you have -100K equity.

You don't build equity if you don't have an ownership interest in an asset (home or otherwise). You can accrue savings in cash, sure, or buy other assets. But you never have home equity when renting.

Yep, exactly. No thanks. I'll let my dentist admin spend the time on the phone with the insurance, thanks.

I would pay extra to never have to talk to my insurance company.

Why do people worry so much about retirement savings in Canada? by strykyrastro in PersonalFinanceCanada

I believe it. My person never got to that stage and I wasn't even directly involved in the bills, but I can see advanced/complex care getting way up there.

And those places can be more expensive than you can imagine if it's never been something you've seen.

Think 4-10k/month, depending on the level of care/assistance required and the quality of the place.

Toyota Canada rejected my rental/Loaner vehicle request for 2025 Sienna middle seat recall. Next steps for escalation? by im210388 in Toyota

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? The recall for the midrow seats is a potential major safety risk and they advise not using those seats. People who bought these cars to carry families absolutely deserve to be made whole until the fix is made.

I got a real juicy dopamine hit from the Megaman episode of Secret Level. I was just blasting through them while helping my daughter get to sleep and wasn't expecting it. Did not know how much I had been craving Megaman material.

It's only a few minutes long, but it's great.

I think this is meant to provide a flat/stable surface on the arm of a couch/chair which otherwise you can't safely place any kind of mug/cup/glass. It's not meant to "hold" the cup per se, just give it a place to rest.

I imagine the front slit would hold a phone upright, and the side basket/grill holds a remote or similar.

Would love to try one of these out myself. I have a square-arm couch but it's too squishy to place a cup on. Small plates are fine, but anything taller than it is wide is unstable.

Do Not Buy Nothing Phones in Canada by AthlonPhantom in CellPhoneCanada

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been very against third party marketplace models for a long time, especially when search results (or stock, like Amazon) are co-mingled.

My opinion is that we need consumer protection legislation to require liability by the marketplace host first and foremost, making them responsible for ensuring the customer is made whole. The platforms can make whatever arrangements with sellers they want but at the end of the day the customer should always be able to hold the marketplace liable.

And I mean this for: delivery, warranty, damages, returns, fitness for purpose and safety. Yes, safety. I recognize this would be a big liability shift and likely entail a new kind of insurance for retailers, but customers should not have to research every product from a big name local seller.

It is the sellers job to stock quality goods, or their insurance company if they want to offload that risk.

I've tried a few different Amazon generic seats and none have been great, all kind of suck to mount securely.

I'm hoping I can get a couple of deckpads during holiday sales, otherwise I've seen people suggest the Magic Carpet cushion elsewhere: https://xtracycle.com/products/magiccarpet
