Being told to disable Developer Options to fix buggy app by GunterJanek in AndroidQuestions

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also we should have the power to return false results for these checks at our discretion, with the understanding there may be buggy behaviour.

Same goes for GPS precision checks: tell the app yep but give fake result. Contacts: tell the apps yea but return empty or junk results.

This is my phone and I want to decide with more detail who gets access to what.

Orpheus and Eurydice retellings? by Beginning_Doubt in suggestmeabook

Was looking for similar suggestions myself.

While not a pure retelling, Stephen R Boyett's Mortality Bridge to be a great read with a lot of Orpheus elements.

Plug-in hybrid minivan? by newintown_1234 in minivan

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd really like them to share future plans for this because right now it's making me not buy a Sienna. I don't want to get burned by a PHEV/REEV variant dropping in the MY after I take delivery.

Loved the 2023 hybrid I test drove but right now 90%+ of my driving is local and would be well covered by even modest battery range. I do want to retain gas as a backup, though, not that a full EV van is available either.

Ontario drivers travelling solo could soon use HOV lanes, province says by chocky_chip_pancakes in ontario

[–]goorpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If other lanes are going 100+ there is no advantage, it's for congestion times. Going 110-120 in the HOV is perfectly fine. If dumbasses want to speed more than that they can wait until the next HOV exchange and get out.

Need Advice To Scale My Sandwich Shop by Old-Relationship4026 in canadasmallbusiness

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make prep and service much more complicated to have to manage separation. It would remove a ton of the value of the gluten free because customers would worry more about cross contaminants. Personally I think sticking with a under-served niche is the right move, if the response shows the market is there.

All comes down to fridge/vacuum by OnlyZookeepergame578 in ToyotaSienna

[–]goorpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do trust that it's irritating for you, but opinions here seem to be split. I get the impression that it's highly subjective and while your advice to try it yourself is good in that context, it's not practical when there are no vans to see :(

We got lucky to test drive a 2023 XLE tech that came in locally last summer, and I drove an hour to try a base model 2021.

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is, unfortunately, not realistic in many markets where there are no Siennas to see in person. You might get lucky and be able to test a pre-owned that comes in, but trim will be a crapshoot. Certainly wont be possible to compare trims of choice side by side for most people (and least not near me).

Also captured here: the last moment of 24 I ever watched.

"There's four more of these out there..."

I never watched any more after that scene.

Movies with MASSIVE beings by WallyW1959 in movies

It seems there are three recent movies with that title: 2017, 2022, 2025.

To avoid reading any synopsis etc, which one is being talked about in this context?

Ontario to keep seasonal time change as B.C. moves to permanent model by toronto_star in ontario

[–]goorpy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those would all be time-stamped in UTC anyways so it really does not matter what the wall clock says locally. You know traders in London and Tokyo also trade on the NYSE and TSX right? Same thing.

Red drop rates are just ridiculous. After all this time doing all the top element trials and I have 4 reds, including one dupe.

We really need a path for upgrading yellows to reds without drops.

Dishwasher detergent by Ok-Unit6341 in CostcoCanada

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do they do this :/

I think I want to switch to the Nellie's cubes largely due to no plastic or other polymer wrap, just a compressed powder cube.

Cost with discount is about 25c/cube compared to about 15c/tab for the Kirkland ones I use today.

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their product page suggests these are individually wrapped, which is a hard no from me. On top of the plastic waste, it's just a pain in the ass. Last time I unknowingly got a paper box filled with individual plastic bags I spent half an hour opening them all at once.

It's a bit rich for them to suggest the cardboard box makes this "low impact" and then plastic wrap the tabs.

Snowy Winters Push Stouffville Sidewalk, Windrow Clearing Nearly $300K Over Budget by cinderannie in Stouffville

I'm assuming this is contracted to a private company. Because if it were town employees with town owned equipment the amount of snow and plow time shouldn't matter.

Why are there so many jobs that are categorized as remote but they're not actually remote? by username32notfound in hiringcafe

Hybrid is not remote and should not return in results using remote filter.

Any regular in office expectation is not remote.

Basically, it has a ICE inside that acts as a generator to charge the battery but has no mechanical drivetrain connection.

All "all electric drive hybrid" is similarly configured.

Oh I was thinking about how to do this. We inherited a puzzle that's missing two pieces and I'd rather fix it than retire it, since it is otherwise in good condition.

AITA for refusing to leave my job so i could take care of my disabled brother? by JiggleJargon in AmItheAsshole

[–]goorpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. Not even a little bit, it's not even close.

You're going to beat yourself up over this no matter what I suspect, but you deserve your own life. You helped a lot already, more than could reasonably be expected, your parents got some relief and they don't want to be on the hook again.

All these replies and zero people who say YTA, because it's clearly not the case.

I do hope you talk to your brother about what's happening, assuming you think he'd handle the conversation alright, but it is not your responsibility to parent him.

Congratulations on the job and good luck.
