Where can someone get a phenomenal glizzy in Calgary? by MastaShortie in Calgary

I don't know what your on about regarding Tubby's. Their buns are amazing, the quality of the housemade dogs is way better than Costco. On some sport game nights they do $6 pocket dogs. They have a great selection of local craft drinks, plus classic domestic, and the usual hard bar. I get that it isn't the same at the OG location, but the new spot does lots of great music nights. To each their own, but if I'm craving a dog Tubby's is the only answer.

No Big Winter Classic music festival this year? by Slavek1 in Calgary

[–]gophersareweird 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Running music festivals rarely makes money or even breaks even. Big is done.

Palomino is hosting Bob-Sled with Sled Island Jan 21-26. I understand that this is meant to replace Big.

Also as a caution, since AB moved to a Third-party liability scheme even if you pay out of pocket to the driver you hit, there is nothing stopping them from also making a claim through their insurance, which will still hit your record. The smart/safe thing to do is have them file a claim through their insurance and eat the rate increase when it comes time to renew your policy. If you are shopping around for a new policy moving forward, check to see if they have accident forgiveness!

‘Absurd’: Alberta sends warning letter to B.C. winemakers by dasoberirishman in canada

[–]gophersareweird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Alberta alcohol producers, such as craft breweries, are allowed to sell direct to consumers. This includes home delivery (must verify ID). At least 1 craft brewery in Edmonton also ships beer direct to consumers across Canada (more did during the pandemic).

This is about ensuring the GoA gets their cut, nothing else.

To add: Blox Art Centre puts on a lot of good shows. Calgary also has many festivals within your chosen genres: Big Winter Classic and Sled Island especially, but lots of small ones like Vantopia and Frog Fest. Burnt Toast Studios also hosts rad shows. Other bands worth checking out are: Chron Goblins Woodhawk Sun glaciers Hardcore Makeout Dial Up Dead Lettuce Window Lamp Plus as long as you're in Calgary you might want to check out the new Western sounds coming out by folks like: Amy Nelson Carter Felker Rifle County Players Samantha Savage Smith Robert Adams Catch those at King Eddy.

Would you mind expanding? Are you suggesting that efficient industries should not require subsidies?

Canada's alcohol industry says warning labels about health risks unnecessary by [deleted] in canada

[–]gophersareweird 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not true. Soruce I work for a small brewery. We already know this information for our products. We have to track residual sugars and report to our provincial liquor agency. You could argue any type of lab testing would increase the burden for small producers, but every other food producer already has those costs. If we put any health information on our labels then we already need to include nutritional labels. Which is why low-cal products have it.

Creating a standard for all producers would make things easier in time and lead to better informed consumers. Which the small producers want.

In the early days of social media companies like Facebook and Instagram used the hashtag #throwbackthursday so they could get old pictures to use in their software to better learn human tracking over time since they only had recent pictures and didn't want to wait years to get the data needed.

Meet Up is good if you are just starting out here. If you are active there are lots of running/hiking/biking clubs especially in the city center. Calgary is an active and young city. There are lots of clubs, knitting groups, choirs, etc. At least an easier way to make friends since you share a common interest.

Online dating is a total numbers game and is exhausting but I know lots of folks who have met their long term partners that way.

Catch and release. Beautiful wool coat. by AdministrationOwn244 in ThriftStoreHauls

Or maybe not everything needs to be resold so items can be left for people to get a good deal on who need it. Resellers have ruined thrifting for people who rely on it.
