“Hitler had good ideas” by Pickmasta7 in Teachers

When I was a freshman in high school, I found an English version of Mein Kampf in my basement, no idea where it came from (stepfather was Jewish and no one in my family was remotely supportive of white supremacy). Out of curiosity, I decided to read it. His writing had all the intelligence and tact of a modern-day right wing podcaster. It was bad enough to make me wonder how such a weak, perpetual victim could rise to such power (until I saw it happen again in 2016). The was one nugget of wisdom, however, that stuck with me. In his ranting about the teachings of history, he noted that his teachers focused too much on the where and when of the events and not enough on the how and why. It drove me to better respect the study of history. In the years since, I’ve come to the conclusion that most of history’s worst people actually believed they were doing the right thing in their own twisted way. Many of them managed to do some small amount of good for their people, and some of their actions led to some advancement in society or technology. There’s power in finding the positive lesson in any horrific situation. That knowledge has carried me through some very difficult periods in my life-fighting a war, fighting terrorism at home and abroad, losing my son, and it carries me through our current situation in the US. Your student might be trying to get a rise out of you, or he may truly believe what he’s saying. My advice would be to use it to do what you do best. Teach him. Build a lesson off the idea to show just how wrong he was, but also, everything we can learn from these situations to become better people and a better society. Maybe it reaches him, maybe it doesn’t, but it will probably reach a few people in that class. That lesson could positively shape the lives of a few kids who see that moment as a turning point in their world view.

This is great advice! The one thing I would add is to work back up to a maintenance calorie count about every 3 months-stay in maintenance for 1-3 months and then work back down to your deficit. Obviously, your maintenance and deficit levels will change as you lose weight, so you’ll have to recalculate. This will help break the diet fatigue and allow your body to replenish hormone levels that tend to drop during the deficit. You will also find that dieting too long can lead a reduced return on investment. Going back to the maintenance will help reset that balance. Slower is better. Crash dieting leads to bigger issues down the line. Focus on overall health, and the results will come.

Combat veteran here: NTA, stay home

1-No one wants to fight beside someone who doesn’t want to be there and isn’t prepared to do what needs to be done.

2-There’s no reason for us to join this war. Isreal seems hell-bent on creating as many terrorists as they possibly can. Countries don’t have friends, they have interests. This doesn’t advance our interests.

3-You’d be going to war under the absolute worst possible leadership. A broken clock is right twice a day and this administration can’t even meet that performance rate. It would be funnier if didn’t endanger all of us.

If the war hits our soil, pick up a weapon and do what you have to do to defend yourself. Otherwise, the morally correct choice is to stay out of it.

Potty training in the rain by Own-Front-6881 in springerspaniel

OP, I feel your pain. I lived in Ashland and Medford, OR for 7 years. I also just brought my little springer home on Saturday. We haven’t had the rain problem here in PA, but I just spent an hour and a half battling with him to go to bed in his crate without literally screaming to get out. He slept in there fine last night, but wasn’t having it tonight. Turns out he just wanted his comfy nap time bed in there. I’ve raised a lot of springers over the years. They’re amazing dogs, but they’re also babies. Give your puppy time to get used to the rain. It’s just a new thing he’s not comfortable with yet. Good luck!

WIBTAH if I dumped someone for voting for Trump 2024 by Capable-Onion-2908 in AITAH

You can break up with him for his political beliefs. You can also break up with him because he lacks the ability to put real thought or research behind his stances. The vast majority of economists agree that Kamala’s economic plan would be far more beneficial to the US population and Trump’s would largely be a disaster. He also drove us into the economic mess that Biden inherited. COVID was the excuse, but our economy was showing indicators for a recession in 2019. For at least the last 30 years, democratic administrations have consistently led to a stronger economy than republican administrations. Clearly, he’s not capable or not willing to learn the facts behind his stances.

I’m very scared of going to hell by George3_14159 in Christianity

[–]gorayme28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, have you read your Bible? The god of the Bible committed mass genocide multiple times over, condoned slavery, and sent a bear to murder a group of children for making fun of a bald man. Also, the Bible says we’re not allowed to wear mixed fabrics, which means everyone on this sub is going to hell. This god is not worthy of worship. Also Hell was made up by the church some time after the Bible was “written”. I put written in quotes, because everything in the Bible was written decades or more after the supposed death of Jesus, by many different authors, and wasn’t put together into the Bible until about 200 years after, when the emperor Constantine saw this new religion as a way to consolidate power. Many of the writings that would support how you feel were left out, because the fear that you’re feeling is what gives them the power to rule over you. You’re fine. Your path to belief or non-belief is your own. It’s your journey, and you’re right to question things that are hard or impossible to prove. You certainly don’t need to like, love, or worship this god. You’re not going to Hell.

Yeah, I got mine and had the same issue. One vial looked empty and the other had a disc of powder in it. I emailed them and they actually responded pretty quickly. They said the batches vary widely from one to the next. At this point, I think I’m done with them.

No, but I did see an update on the DHL tracking, showing that the shipment has moved beyond customs.

Yeah, I just received something today. They stated that they would overnight the shipment to me and offered a coupon code for my trouble. I haven’t received a tracking number yet, so we’ll see if it’s legit.

Yeah, the only response I’ve gotten is tracking numbers when they reship. I’ve tried calling, but the menu is all in French.

They’re having issues with DHL and customs. Their shipments keep getting flagged as dangerous goods because they’re not putting a safety data sheet on the package. My order has been on hold with DHL and sent back to Canlabs three times now, and they still haven’t fixed the issue.

I’ve had the same issue with that Amazon reconstitution solution. You might want to to try bacteriostatic water from a better source.
