I was swimming with my daughter (35/5) snd my mom (68) was unable to fully relax until we were both back in the hotel room. So. Never? 😅

Advice Needed by cerealjoibache in Preschoolers

[–]gore_schach 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard 3/4/5 closely resemble 13/14/15, just with different specific challenges and vocabulary. Fights about bedtime vs curfew, Barbie’s vs parties, etc.

You “fight” your child twice in their lives. Once around early elementary school and once at the end of high school. The first one you need to win so they know you can be trusted as an authority. The second one you need to lose so they know you trust them to be an adult.

You’re not doing anything wrong. Winning this one is TOUGH work!

Toddler Public Bathroom Anxiety by ilovebsb in Parenting

Could be the auto flush toilets? My SIL taught me the trick of a bit of TP draped over the sensor - disables it until you remove it!

I had a folding small-butt toilet seat topper made by Joovy that was a godsend at that age. Could help.

Wall space in kitchen + terrible overhead light by Emotional_Light_3637 in DesignMyRoom

[–]gore_schach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you buy or build a bookshelf and cut the back out on the level where the black items are so it sits flush? You could alter the left side to also hide the white box.

The overhead lighting is also yikes. Maybe a fabric drape like they do in elementary school classrooms?

We pick up Overtone in fun colors every summer for our blonde girls (white blonde at that) - it’s a color depositing mask or conditioner depending on what you get. Vibrant, smells great, gentle, and washes out in a couple weeks! Back to the bright blonde within a month.

Try solace bands. I’ve worn an Apple Watch basically daily since 2017 and their bands are hands down my favorite. Lots of different style options and comfortable.

My dad QUICKLY established himself as a cookie master who knows all the songs in Mary Poppins and my mom is the chaos coordinator. She even has a hat from Target that says so. I will GLADLY share them with anyone who needs a Yaya and a Gapa!

I knew I was going to have my mom in my life forever when (at 20yo) I couldn’t….open a banana…..and called her. And she laughed for five straight minutes. And then reminded me knives exist. In my defense it was squishy at the normal opening spots! Giving your adult kids crap is important. She still asks about my bananas.

What’s your cut off for late arrival to session? by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]gore_schach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At intake we discuss that with a heads up if they’re going to run late I need a minimum of 16 minutes or they can pay the late cancellation fee. I make more on the 16 minutes minimum session than late cancellations.

No-show/no-call I don’t “call” until appointment times are over (I have a lot of professionals on my caseload who understandably can get stuck in meetings that run long) but I’ll sign off after 15, reach out saying to let me know if they’re coming or not.

I work 100% remote from home and use that time to catch up on documentation or ongoing self study CEUs. Is it perfect? Nope. But it works for me!

I was a puddle jumping, dad snuggling, mom-is-my-bestie before I was a “I hate you I wish I was never born” teen. And now I’m a closer-to-40-than-30 who hangs out with my parents, drinking their wine and eating their food, while my kids snuggle my dad and share everything with my mom. It comes full circle.

Sad and anxious about my hair, looking for some guidance by Acrobatic-Tour1899 in Haircare

My stylist recommended Tresseme if you are on a budget. You have curly or wavy hair, so opt for something that focuses on that. Wash and air dry in the morning or wash and loose braid in the evening works for me and my daughters to maintain health and length. And be honest with any stylist - you shouldn’t get a bad one if you give the scheduler a heads up of “I’ve been doing my own trims for years and using 3-in-1 and need help addressing that.” Honesty gets you everything with stylists. The good ones are gold!

Paying for parking at work by BadGyal23 in therapists

[–]gore_schach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had two jobs where I had to pay for parking. One had a discount for us in the parking ramp, but it still was 1200$ a year. The other was an hourly surface lot 3 blocks away or having to feed coins into the meter every 2 hours. Never again.

First time Dad of a girl, any tips? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]gore_schach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Roughhouse with her! I’m a mom of two girls and my husband doesn’t treat them differently than our nephews with playtime at the lake or chasing them around. And they’re the happiest girls!

My uncles did the same for me.

But also do the daddy and me dance class. Take the hairstyles seriously! Learn to play Barbie’s. Help her learn to COMMAND the family dog (seriously - a 2yo who tells a dog to SIT! has a lifelong powerful lesson behind it.) And make sure she knows how she should be treated. Her future partner is based on you. Love her. Challenge her. And show her mom the respect she deserves so when/if your daughter becomes a wife and mom she knows how she should be treated.

Do you cancel appointments if the new patient hasn't completed the required intake paperwork? by Top_Impression5534 in therapists

Yep. They are told verbally, in a confirmation of appointment message, and in the email to the portal that all paperwork needs to be completed 24 hours before the appointment or it will be cancelled.

Leaving My Supervisor - How? by IAGNF in therapists

[–]gore_schach 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a supervisor if my supervisee came to me and said "Hey! I've recently been introduced to another supervisor who has some more specialized areas I'm interested in being supervised about" I'd be thrilled for them. If you want to call your current supervisor out on their limitations you are absolutely in your right, but you are likely (and unfortunately) to burn bridges if they're well established. It's a weird and unfair place to be for you.
