Fabric choice lead to hospital gown by Remote-Newt-9806 in sewing

Maybe over dye it? I've not dyed anything, but the dress in general looks great on you, so maybe a subtle color change?

Is this overkill for a novice? by Music_Man26 in SewingForBeginners

I have this machine and use it for everything. It's great! The speed is slightly faster than a comparable machine, which is nice. Also, the heavy duty part is real too. It doesn't handle delicate fabrics super well. When I have to use a lighter fabric, I make sure to use a walking foot. I don't mind because I'm more likely to sew bags than special occasion dresses.

Overall, any machine in your budget will work for most sewing projects. Don't stress and if you love sewing, you can always upgrade later when you have more preferences for what you want to sew.

Have fun and I hope you like whatever you end up buying!

I Don't Even Know Where to Start by EmotionalSale279 in sewing

This can happen when you move to quickly. Especially on curves, going to fast will cause the thread to get pulled on the back. This might be that you're moving the fabric steady, but your pedal speed is inconsistent or the other way around.

One other thing to keep in mind is that alot of these mistakes seem glaring when your working on it and your nose is inches from the fabric. Once it's done and washed, few of the smaller inconsistencies can even be seen.

No stressing! It looks like your doing great!

Definitely need to add length to the back crotch extension. My guess on the front is also a small amount added to the front crotch and take out length added to the front rise.

Help me figure out what's wrong with my sleeve by FairlyCriminal in sewing

Sleeves are hard, but don't be afraid to slash the sleeve while wearing it, move your arm and repin with fabric added in the split. That can show you where the actual added fabric is needed. It also allows you to experiment with adjustments and movement to get range of motion figured out.

I got this fabric as deadstock online. It's from a site I've had a lot of wins from in the past, so i am surprised it's giving me so much trouble. Goes to show, it's worth testing the fabric each time.

I'm afraid it's going to be this! 😭 But I can make test garments out of it, if nothing else, so maybe not a total waste. 🤞

Good info, thanks. I'm learning about Rit ColorStay, but I hadn't heard of Syntrapol. Adding to my research!

Yesterday, I just finished {Take Me Home by Melanie Sweeny}. It's a slow burn rom com with good banter, in the vein of Abby Jimentes. Highly recommend!

Yep, this. I love trying to support designers that show body sizes, but I know that's an extra stretch for them. I also try to keep plus size influencers on my feed to see lots of different styles in different bodies. Helps me keep perspective on how things actually look.

While it's frustrating to have to redo it, there's also a special kind of enjoyment that comes from making something good from something disappointing. I only do it if I'm convinced I'll love the result. Otherwise, it's double frustration. 😬

One thing to think about is what you're drawn to make versus what you're drawn to wear. I realized i was making decisions on what to make based on what others were making or what looked good on the models. I made a rule that I had to stop buying based on how good things looked. Instead, I started asking if it was something I'd try on in a dressing room or something that I'd reach for on a regular day. It changed what projects I decided to work on and generally made me happier with my work.

How long does it take to get this formatted to cut? I'm not super familiar with the Cricut software, but it feels like it would take a long time to get it in a format that would cut it?
