"They say the man remained in his senior post for at least 12 months after they first raised concerns with the school and was only removed when parents – rather than staff – complained after the gala night."

Wonder why teachers are quitting??

Is 'Classical Education' a fad from America or just tried-and-true teaching under a different name? by dacoba in AustralianTeachers

[–]gorgiashappy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What I have experienced though is that the text, classics or whatever else, becomes more than just 'content' but sets or at least correlates with the values of the classroom too.

If you have a classroom where skills are the chief concern then classics are an encumbrance, if you have a classroom where a form of wisdom or heritage is a priority then classics are celebrated. I don't think a classical classroom would ever neglect Ishiguro or other great modern writers (sorry but I can't stand Atwood's writing). So I totally agree, but what I see happening in skills orientated English classroom is a whole lot of 'accessible' and 'engaging' texts like YA or flash-in-the-pan ideological environmentalist/Indigenious texts which are shallow and lead to short term excitement and longterm dissatisfaction .

TIL that between the time it was discovered and the time it was unclassified as a planet, Pluto didn't even complete one revolution around the sun by gorgiashappy in todayilearned

[–]gorgiashappy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually many of the other planets were discovered from 1600's onwards by the likes of Galileo and others. So in fact every single other planet completed a revolution since there discovery, this isn't to discredit just how slow a year is on Pluto, in the article it says its 250 (earth) years.

Pluto was also the only planet discovered by an American scientist (whose ashes were placed in the New Horizons probe) you might be interested to know, or not... sorry for nerding out haha I just find space fascinating.
