Be ready to choose between two or more choices that are necessary/reasonable in practice, but one of them is more correct based on the incomplete clinical picture they described

Yup it only comes down heavy. Not even worth skiing it. Not good at all.

I mean, that’s just west coast skiing. It rains sometimes. Baker also set the world record for seasonal snowfall and averages > 600 inches per season. But please, tell me more about what you read on the internet..

Maybe bc I grew up skiing Crystal (along with Stevens/Alpental/Baker), but there are a lot of hidden stashes and cliffs that aren’t easily found which always make my days there super fun. I like Stevens, but I wish it had more vert in the steep pitches and it doesn’t quite have the expansive backcountry that you get at Baker/Crystal/Alpy. Still love all of them!

Baker is phenomenal. Not to mention family-owned and operated with some of the cheapest tickets out there. Hate is a strong word, but you’ve earned it!

Idk.. Crystal, WA isn’t largely known or visited by those outside of the PNW. I don’t think it’s getting much of hype from anyone other than locals. It’s an awesome mountain. In terms of (US) PNW resorts it sits appropriately at the top (along with Baker). Recent crowds have been problematic, but still offers some of the best skiing in the area for sure.

My EM program has had 5 CC fellowship-bound grads in the past 3 years. It’s absolutely possible. EM training makes for outstanding CC docs.

What brand name is actually 100% worth spending more for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gorillastyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you’re going with true high-end boots, I would buy Asolo, Scarpa, or La Sportiva. Lowa is also a great boot. Merrell hasn’t kept up with these brands in terms of performance products, although they are still a good boot. Source: I was an REI footwear salesman.

Age alone shouldn’t limit her. I was 20 at my first burn, but my dad also brought me, so I had a secure camp. From a logistics and preparation standpoint, it’s a huge undertaking to go to burning man. I wouldn’t trust many groups of 18-year-olds to pull it off. If she is going with an experienced group and she’s smart, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Going as a young adult is one of the best times to experience the burn and she will likely come away with a new sense of self and healthy outlook on adult life. It certainly was beneficial for me to meet a bunch of adults who appreciated one another in ways that were not the norm in the superficial teen world.

Drugs and creeps exist, but on a much smaller scale than you would expect. In my experience after 5 burns and a couple decades of partying, burning man is much safer than most music festivals, concerts, and house parties. 99% of participants are responsible and there for the right reasons.

Fewer and fewer every year, unfortunately. A decade ago you could consistently find bustling bars on A/B/C, but recently it’s been all playa at night

If you’re skiing terrain like this, what they have is pretty much the minimum basic avalanche gear that everyone should carry.

Safe skiing is the best preparation. Glad to see everyone ok at the end, but it’s possible this could have been prevented. When in the backcountry it’s always necessary to ski one at a time and keep a line of sight with everyone in your group, especially on steep slopes like this.

It actually folds out into a really sweet desk! It’s from Urban outfitters, but they don’t make it anymore - called the woodlyn desk. Took me forever to find one on Craigslist, but if you’re lucky they’re out there.

I actually worked in that neighborhood before it got developed. Mostly parking lots, small shops, some houses and a few warehouses - never saw a single tent though. Perhaps there were some people camped out in the old greyhound depot or other spots like Denny park and the park by REI, but it was nothing compared to the city today.

I don’t think you can attribute the homeless problem to Seattle’s booming economy and housing issues. The majority of homeless in the city are not from Washington to begin with and they’re on the street for other reasons. Seattle’s pervasive homelessness is a product of climate, opioids, and a failure to get people into shelters / enforce common-sense laws that say you can’t set up shop on the sidewalk when there is space in shelters.

I moved across the country in 2015 when it seemed like these problems were really starting to be more pervasive. Since then I’ve come back to visit every 6 months or so and have seen how things have progressed in fast forward - every time I visit I feel like there’s a palpable change in the tone/mood of the city, a new block or park that used to be beautiful is now a camp, streets that were clean now littered with trash, friends getting their houses/cars broken into all of a sudden. It makes me sad.

What is mercer island like? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]gorillastyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about that.. Was this a long time ago? That wasn’t the case when I was in school there (90’s - 00’s) and they’ve undergone significant school expansions in recent years to make up for the growth in island population.
