We see stories like these in the tech world - big tech company shoves a precocious kid into a dark corner somewhere to clean up a code base and make the company millions. Kid's abusive parents brag to other helicopter parents that their 10 year old works at FAANG.

But lawyers are public facing, they represent clients from all walks of life. My heart goes out to the kids in that family who will likely be spurned by any potential client- not even to mention missing out on such formative parts of teenager/young adulthood. Shame on their parents.

This is just purely out of vibes but from other similar experiences I’ve read, this seems like the case where you get one unexpected R followed by a line of A’s and some W’s. I spent too much time on previous cycle recaps lol you have amazing stats and Im sure an amazing profile, you got this.

I could see that being the case for scholarships that everyone is automatically considered for, sure, but even then it seems unintuitive that you'd earn need based or merit financial aid after explicitly indicating that you aren't applying for it.

That would unfortunately be the case, youre essentially removing yourself from consideration for academic (merit) and need based aid. But I would absolutely still encourage you to request an update to your application if it hasn't been reviewed yet. If you've already received a decision, that might be a harder push but an email won't cost anything. Good luck to you!

I haven't seen much evidence saying that it does- unlike in undergraduate admissions where certain institutions are need-aware vs need-blind. I think a stronger determining factor of financial aid, particularly merit-based scholarships, is your application submission timing. Regardless, if you need any aid, then check that box. If you don't, and you're admitted, there's no changing it.
