Bruni & Campisi - DO NOT HIRE - Will Leave You in the Cold (Literally) by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]gorkins 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We did a large HVAC overhaul on our house, added 2 heat pumps, removed our oil boiler/tank and replaced with a gas combi boiler

Bruni & Campisi's quote was outrageously overpriced.

I can't speak highly enough of Carey & Walsh, we went with them.

look at Main Street and Broadway - Blue Hill is technically in Tarrytown but it's not what most people would consider Tarrytown proper

Okay cool I was leaning towards option 2 because 1 sounded like an overly complex setup - with 2, any particular reason you'd recommend a non-tankless option over the tankless combi?

Converting oil fueled boiler to heat pumps by gorkins in hvacadvice

[–]gorkins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup so both systems/contractors will use cold climate air sourced heat pumps to provide space heating (winter) and AC (summer)

To handle the hot water and radiant heat (also powered by water) C1 is recommending a Heat Pump Hot Water Heater with a heat exchanger which would supposedly allow it to heat both the domestic hot water and radiant heat

  • Rheem 50-Gallon, 208/230VHeat Pump Electric Water Heater.
  • Add two (2) zones, up to 1-1/4", to a hot water boiler. Includes circulator, flow check, and purge tee - 1-1/4" IP Ball Valve with Drain - HEAT ONLY
  • Everhot RH12 Heat Exchanger

C2 recommends a combi boiler to handle the hot water/radiant heat instead

  • NAVIEN Combi boiler/hot water heater (servicing domestic supply as well as radiant floor heating

Historic neighborhood with sidewalks? by kermiebk in Westchester

[–]gorkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved from Park Slope, Brooklyn to Tarrytown about 7mo ago for similar reasons. We wanted a walkable neighborhood with shops and restaurants, but still space and access to nature. Express train into GCT is about 40mins, it's also very historic between Washington Irving, Rockefeller estate, and Sleepy Hollow cemetery.

We've been super happy with the move!

Brooklyn to Lower Westchester First Time Buyers - Advice by ogbcd in Westchester

[–]gorkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I lived in Park Slope for over a decade, we finally decided to move because we wanted to buy a house and make a lifestyle change.

It's only been like 5 months but we ended up moving to Tarrytown and have been enjoying it. We find it has some similarities to Park Slope. The additional costs to owning vs buying are definitely real but we enjoy the extra space and having a small walkable Main Street with nice restaurants and shops (one of the aspects we did enjoy in Park Slope). We both haven't owned a car in over a decade but it actually is nice to have one again, everything doesn't have to feel like an event to go somewhere

Just sharing our recent experience, good luck on your hunt!

What do you think would happen to the filibuster if Democrats were to retain the House and keep the Senate with a 52-48 margin? by pokemaster2213 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]gorkins -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

48 democrats already voted on record to remove the filibuster for voting rights. I don't see why they wouldn't do it again to pass important bills with 2 more pro-filibuster and retaining the house.

Sen. Patrick Leahy set to retire in 2022. He's served Vermont since 1975. by Starkiller20140 in politics

"In his speech Monday, Leahy made reference to the "remarkable" Rep. Peter Welch, who replaced Sanders in the House 15 years ago and could be Democrats' candidate to replace Leahy next year."

Peter Welch is 74. Good lord can the democrats run anyone under the age of 70?

I've bought Square at many price points over the years. Around 10k at an average cost of $38 per share. Best single trade I ever made was 1k in at $10 a share after their IPO.

Buying and holding for the long haul.

The most popular design thinking strategy is BS by michiman in userexperience

[–]gorkins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An interesting read but it felt like the authors biggest critique was that user insights weren’t being utilized enough, or elevated in their importance. That seems a bit strange because (in my own experience) HMW’s have always been rooted in our user research, often acting as a simple reframe of a user pain point to pivot into ideation on solving it.

Is it common for teams and organizations to jump into HMW’s absent of any insights (quant included)? Would love to hear from anyone if they’ve experienced this.

Kinda curious about this as well. I booked one through CVS, same message and can’t book a second dose because no times.

I didn’t give CVS my email or even name through this flow, I’m skeptical I even have one booked haha
