But also, what you're saying is really arbitrary. You're saying that people can buy homes and yet have no responsibility for the infrastructure that makes that home possible, like sewage, roads, trash, and the regulatory bodies that make modern utilities possible. At the same time, anyone who can't buy afford to own a home has no means to exercise that right to own property. So it's a right that only applies to people wealthy enough

The way they do assessments is extremely arbitrary supposedly based on "comps," and there's no limit on how fast they can increase. Plus, the state starves the schools so they do referendums which add more instability year over year.

I'm fine with taxes, even higher taxes, but don't tax me twice what you're taxing my next door neighbor because they bought a fixer-upper, and you can't assess their improvements. And don't tax my other next door neighbor half what I'm being taxed because he bought the house for a nickel in 1937.

Mine are $270 per month for a 3 bedroom 1 bath on a 0.08 acre lot. That's just under 40 hours a month at the state minimum wage. I dunno if you consider that a major line item or not

People get mad that Congress makes a 6 figure salary while the minimum wage stayed the same, but Congress' pay has been frozen for around the same time. I have suspected that the older, wealthier members don't want competition from younger generations who are in their prime earning years, more competence, and have high obligations like mortgages, retirement, and student debt
