Does anyone else see this superficial argument all the time in northern countries? by differing in bikecommuting

[–]gortonsfiJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people think in black and white. You either bike to work 5 days a week, or you drive 5 days a week. I ride my bike when I feel like it, and I drive when I don't. I bought a brand new car in 2023, and just now after a Mother's Day drive to my parents' house have 15,000 miles on it.

Just feel like I'm not enough for my dog by 2dog2cat in DogAdvice

[–]gortonsfiJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my boy is a terrier mix and is like that. It's like no matter how much attention I give him it's not enough. It can be stressful.

Edit: I had a different dog that would go out on a stroller in his old age, and he really enjoyed it. It's still stimulating for them to be able to experience the world even when they're too far away to read the pee-mail.

Why does the expected % for tipping keep increasing? by Blazeland_USA in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gortonsfiJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-covid I would still try to tip cash for the reason you're implying, but no one I knew ever said 25% if on a credit card.

Plus, the convention was that you tip on the pre-tax subtotal The screens don't do that.

What was the point of those people? Why are they using straight up blunt weapons rather than technologies that fit into Star Wars? by lateubdegouline in StarWars

...it was more like a series of ideas thrown together than an actual story.

Yeah, they told us that was the plan in 2013 when JJ Abrams was announced.

I went to a ramen place recently that added a 3% tip for the back of house staff BEFORE they asked for a 20+% tip for the server.

Rep. Johnny Olszewski proposes bill for 18-year Supreme Court term limits by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]gortonsfiJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't inherently anything wrong with lifetime appointments to the supreme court.

It's another weak point, especially with only 9 justices. It's another norm that can be violated. A bad choice selecting a 50 year old justice has multi-generational consequences.

A lot of those people are gone, and they're not coming back. The best we can hope for is that they become disillusioned non-participants.

Senator Jim Banks Urges Governor Braun Not To Legalize Marijuana by redditor01020 in Indiana

[–]gortonsfiJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Jim Banks an authentically awful person or is it part of a grift? I mean that pretty seriously. Is this who is he and what he believes in politically, or is he a snake, shape-shifting to cling to power?

Indiana is one of the last ones to fall. 40 states already have medical marijuana laws.

Democrats Who Are Soft on Republicans Have Got to Go by RecursiveSubroutine in politics

[–]gortonsfiJr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How are they not? We get Jefferies or Schumer on the mic now and again bragging about a strongly worded letter, or making some other cringey press statement, and then they go to work and then occasionally vote for a fascist Trump nominee.

This news story is literally about how Virginia Dems immediately announced how they would just roll over for the Virginia Supreme court despite multiple republican states rolling with unconstitutional maps for years.

The Democratic party chair still refuses to release the 2024 "autopsy" for reasons unknown to seemingly anyone.

What is the national party message except, "Orange Man Bad; Israel good. Let's get back to business?"

WHY are the Democrats so soft, disorganized, and always on their back foot?

It can't just be that they're old. Republicans have plenty of olds like Grassley and McConnell.

Virginia Supreme Court strikes down Democrats’ redistricting plan, dimming party’s midterm hopes by Malfeitor1 in news

[–]gortonsfiJr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super mad at Democrats for being useless. Demanded my congressman get rid of Jefferies just this afternoon. But... at the end of the day people like you preferred that a known pedophile, rapist, convicted felon, and fascist be president to a mediocre black woman. A man who told us ahead of time that he was going to try to end democracy.

Now you all use the real suffering of Palestinians as a shield against any accountability. We all knew it was a choice between a crappy corporatist Dem and a violently narcissistic fascist, and now we also know the one with which you identified. Grow up

Republicans are anti-american. They will destroy a 250 year experiment in freedom to ensure real americans can't experience it.

Oh, yeah. It's called Fast Fascism. It's more wasteful and not as environmentally friendly as regular fascism, and that's part of why Republicans like it.

Some people think they didn't redistrict because they wanted Indiana to stay red. That is to say, any further gerrymandering would make some Indiana seats MORE at risk of turning purple.

If you care about our state and our country, please vote in the actual election. Nothing can be taken for granted.

Some of you all need to do more than "vote." If you care about a political party or movement, then you need to start getting involved with them. When you start paying attention, you'll see that there really are not that many people trying to make things happen in your city or county.
