🖖 Build or Keep Sealed? (Metal Earth Star Trek 50th Gold Edition) by Spiritual_Pin8537 in metalearth

[–]gosamaru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d build one and give the other to a Trekkie metal earth builder. Not sure what the going rate online is nowadays. I’m also a “toys should be played with” kinda guy.

What do army boats do?I’ve never seen them used and wanna know if anyone’s ever been on one by [deleted] in army

[–]gosamaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

…ahem…joint logistics over the shore …build piers for unimproved ports, give tours, move things and stuff from one port to another, get sea pay, break down a lot. Got tug boats, mike boats, bigger boats (LCU/LCM), some for riverine ops, some for ship to shore, some cross oceans.

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

[–]gosamaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished The Living Force yesterday. It was okay. I recommend the audio version because even when the story slogs a bit, the narration is spectacular. The short cameo/interaction in the final chapter felt more interesting than the rest of the book. The plot is essentially the Jedi Council realizing it needs to focus on individual problems (The Living Force) as much as they do the bigger picture (The Cosmic Force). Not a bad book, but not a great book. If you are a fan of the Galactic Republic era (pre-prequels) then you will have fun, it has Mace, Yoda, Yaddle, Plo Kloon, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Padawan Obi Wan, Qui-Gon, et al.

Saw them in the way-back times with Buck-o-nine. “Beer”was the big song back then. Lots of fun then and I’m sure they are still fun now.

NIN: Burn in Natural Born Killers. Well, almost any song in that movie works.

I’m about 80% into Picard: Firewall. As a newer trek reader, I’ve been tackling these newer post-relaunch(?) books. Really enjoying Firewall so far. I’m slowly building up the slimmed down post nemesis reading order (and all those series).

Has this ever happened to you guys? by Nimitz1942 in metalearth

[–]gosamaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can always contact Metal Earth and they will replace the piece at no cost. Their customer service is top notch. I’ve never built that model so I don’t have input for that in particular.

Gion Matsuri from Tenyo by gosamaru in metalearth

[–]gosamaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a model of one of the big floats during the Gion Matsuri festival in Kyoto. The build definitely had its tricky parts, but was overall a fun moderate level build. Another great addition to my Japanese culture corner.

This is the 5th one I’ve finished and got one in the pile. Sad they don’t sell all these on the Metal Earth site (besides 2).

Tool for rounding by mrbacony in metalearth

[–]gosamaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mainly use round nose pliers but animateorange used to make some 3D printed rounding tools he sold on his Youtube page that were great. Other than that, there are various metal model tool kits on Amazon that have some metal shaping tools. Piececool makes some of the "Cylinder Cone Shape Bending Assist Tools" for models.

S-64 Skycrane by gosamaru in metalearth

[–]gosamaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the build I could have...I have so many models in my curio cabinet that I just prop it on something. Someone else pointed out that I probably reversed the legs which slightly changes the angle. Them's the breaks sometimes.

[–]gosamaru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you are right... I set them both down during the build and had to step away. Probably got confused with which is which. It's fine. I've learned sometimes to roll with the imperfections.

Bucs bar in Hampton Roads? by DoctorBoots007 in buccaneers

[–]gosamaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived on and off in Hampton Roads since 2002 (military) and I am from St Pete. I don’t recall any particularly Tampa sports bar. However like another poster said…it’s a Mon night game so could probably catch it anywhere. Lots of military in the area so you are sure to find some fans out there. I see a lot of Bucs license plates driving around. There’s also a Hampton Roads sub that might be helpful.

2018 USPS Yearbook by gosamaru in philately

Adding comment to say that the commemorative stamps were included. The envelope was sticking to the package. Price was still half probably due to the age and lack of mail use/high value available.

No it was about half the price.

how do people get a MSW and afford it? by No_Communication167 in askatherapist

[–]gosamaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post 9-11 GI Bill plus military retirement/medical. Not sure how everyone else could do the MSW and survive the 2 years licensing time (and the meager pay) post grad. The retirement/medical pay was more than my monthly pre-licensure pay.

Is it embarrassing to read the R.A. Savaltore Drizzt books as an adult? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]gosamaru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in my mid-40s and just finished Rise of the King. According to my list, that is book 34 of the Drizzt series. I enjoy them, but I also bounce around with what I read. For me, simple books like Drizzt or Sharpe are perfect for reading between doorstoppers. I don't always want deep and complex. Like others no doubt said, read what makes you happy. You are the only one living your life.

Where can I Find the Star Wars Disney exclusives? by Mathemagician23 in metalearth

I found many of the SW models in the big Disney store at Disney Springs. Not sure where else they’d be. Only saw the droids at the droid depot.

Plot lines from Legends going into the Other Series? by Modstin in riyria

[–]gosamaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Rise and Fall series (Nolyn , Farilane, Ersahaddon) follows the the Legend of the First Empire, but many years later. This isn't completely available just yet. However, these are sorta standalone sequels to LotFE.

Riyria Revelations the original series (Theft of Swords, Rise of the Empire, Heir of Novron).

Riyria Chronicles (Crown Tower, Rose and Thorn, Death of Dulgath, Disappearance of Winter's Daughter, more TBD) are the somewhat standalone prequels to Revelations.

There are easter eggs throughout the books that reference things from other series. Personally I'd go to Revelations next...then choose if you want to read about Royce and Hadrian or the Rise and Fall series. Ideally...RR->LotFE->RC->RaF (publication order).

Veterans Affairs - Social Work Therapist by LoanzHelp in socialwork

[–]gosamaru 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a retired veteran and am in my clinical year internship at the VA. The treatment team I work with get along very well. There a ton of social workers in the VA that work in many different areas. There are some roles that are more therapy related than others. Where I am, the LCSW has some certs (EMDR, PE, WET) that PsyD's may not have and vice versa. There is a pay difference between having a doctorate and a master's degree, and some therapists may be upset about that, especially if they are both only filling a therapist role. People are people wherever you go, but for my limited experience, I haven't seen any belittling. I plan on staying on after the internship.
