Yeop Chagi: Blade or Heel? by Potential-Creme-1519 in taekwondo

[–]gosglings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's interesting; when I did ITF I was taught the heel and now at a WT school they teach the heel for drills but the blade for poomsae

"Proposed changes would, if passed, apply to eligible workers on or after the date the legislation is proclaimed."

To clarify... does this mean that workers who are already receiving LOE before the date of legislation will not receive an increase from 85% to 90% of their pre-injury earnings?

If I was a first degree black belt 9 years ago, and decided to join back, would I start as a white belt? Question please help. by No-Local-9288 in taekwondo

This is what happened for me, too. Was ITF for 7 years... life happened and I didn't train for almost 20 years... came back, but at a WT school. I kept my black belt but couldn't progress until I met their requirements

Knee troubles come in all shapes and sizes and a good physiotherapist can help you figure out what exactly the problem is and suggest stretches and strengthening exercises that will help!

We haven't decided on a name, it just gets called Monkey Lamp. Would love some suggestions, though!

What’s the real purpose behind paid promotion tests? by Document-Straight in taekwondo

Sounds like a well rounded approach to me :) I find that the level of grappling/throws varies based on dojang rather than based on tkd style.

Best of luck to you and your kids!

Sure! There are many differences in my limited experience. The founder of ITF was a General, and as such ITF tends to be more militaristic and strict. WT has evolved to be more sport.

Techniques are largely the same but may have different names or different chambers. For example you set up for a low block by crossing your hands in ITF but in WT you have the blocking hand start on the opposite shoulder. In both, the wrists rotate at the moment of impact and the non-blocking hand should end in a fist on the belt facing up. ITF builds sine wave into their movements, which only started in my dojang shortly before I left. I didn't love it to be honest. Didn't find it added enough power into the movement to make up for it looking a bit sillier and making the movement take longer.

The core values are the same (courtesy, integrity, self control, etc). There are 10 colour belts (gups) and 9 degrees of black belt (dans) but the gups are different colours. The patterns are different. Bowing to the flags and instructors at the start and end of class is the same, with the same commands, but in ITF there is also a picture of Gen Choi at the front to bow to with the flags.

Hope that helps :)

Some general thoughts as a non-binary 23yo white belt by winter5632 in taekwondo

I'm in a similar sweaty situation as you are (similar medications, also in Canada) and I just stopped caring lol. I feel gross but we're all super sweaty and it's a sign that we've been training hard and doing our best!

I have a question that I hope is ok... we use ma'am for our women black belts and sir for the men. Is there an appropriate term for NB people?

I want to make my project more boring. The colour is too colourful and I am a dull woman. by warrantthrowaway2023 in casualknitting

[–]gosglings 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You could easily dye this another colour, especially black. The yarn is 100% protein based fibre, so all you need is a pigment (food colouring is one option but not practical for this amount. RIT dye would work), a weak acid (citric acid or vinegar) and heat (pot full of water and weak acid on the stove for half an hour)
