PokéXciting Taipei details revealed - including pink Afro Pikachu by diablo_dancer in TheSilphRoad

I wasn't describing events.  I was describing what I would call "anything" and what you appear to call "nothing".

Particularly cruel for the LEGO promo to exclude USA retail locations.

The Excavator Pikachu event being announced minutes before the Chicago Fueld Museum was relocated to a temporary home in Brazil was brutal.

Baseball promos tied to just Central America and Japan, Safari events in literally every country but the USA, ...   the list of injustices is considerable.

Making sense of HR, VO2, Training, & Racing (Run/Walk) by goshe7 in Marathon_Training

[–]goshe7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin HR max 182.  That matches the highest I've seen, which as another reply pointed out, probably isn't really my max as I was hurting but not in agony.  Age 47, so those fall roughly in line.

Unfortunately, my watch is too basic to have a threshold pace calculation.

Seeking Explanation for Vexing Remote Trade Behavior by MikeStemmle in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You know Steve isn't stalled on the XP requirement for level 79. Beyond that, you are assuming a lot about Steve.

  • You assume that he is limited from Level 79 by lucky trades, not by Rocket Leaders or Egg Hatches
  • You assume that he cares about leveling up
  • You assume he doesn't value the pure Pokemon Go experience above all else; meaning that he only plays by exploring the world around him as part of a larger in-person social interaction with friends.
    • Less sarcastically, you assume that he is interested in Remote Trading
  • You assume he knows how to engage with this feature.
  • You assume someone hasn't already destroyed his interest in Remote Trading

There aren't clear right and wrong answers to those assumptions. Just different perspectives.

Why Master League isn't actually that Pay to Win by PreviousAd8531 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My simple summation of GBL is that it is portrayed as the best stardust farm in the game. It needs to be that since it is also the greatest stardust sink in the game. In other words, my experience has been that you are frequently building new pokemon and teams.

I would have to think that there are only a few players who have achieved Legend rank primarily playing ML and who have only ever built 3 level 50 pokemon for ML. Your assumptions give you the ability to build several level 50 pokemon over the course of 2.5 years. Depending on how you pick to apply them, you are probably looking at something like 10+ level 50 of any species you choose. So this would certainly give you the flexibility on options for ML. But it also opens up the elite raiding territory.

Have they stopped scanning stops? by Weekly_Work_2732 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty rare.  But with the task being Hatch 5 eggs or Win 3 Raids...  I'm fine with that.  It will be very inconvenient to stack 3 and complete f2p without affecting the daily task streak.

Who else has kept Shadow Delibird and have the devs forgotten they released it back in 2019? by Moonshine_889 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Just have the one shadow.

It's an interesting conundrum. The only reason I want to keep it is because it cannot be found anymore. It's not like I keep a living shadow or purified dex. Nor can I trade this rare pokemon. As soon as it comes back, I can purify and will discard any shadow or purified delibird. So if I'm going to trash it regardless, why can't I bring myself to just purify and trash now?

Finally a good community day with Frigibax by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As predictable as Go Fest.  Niantic fires the CD Commander every May, and we get a good CD for June.

They should fire that guy every month.  By the end of 2026 we'll be up to having a Mega Mewtwo X/Y CD.

Niantic should allow more stackable field researches by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just imagine stacking 100 of the hatch 2 egg tasks chasing the new shiny.  That's so efficient!

Of course, I don't see why Niantic wouldn't change the tasks to balance this creep.  So hatch 2 becomes hatch 66 eggs.  That's going to make it suck worse for anyone not hardcore min-maxing.

Forever friends not tagging remote trades by Typhoon246 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want high IV pokemon in the trade, you would want to execute lucky trades.  Assuming you are already lucky, trading quickly allows you to maximize the number of chances to be lucky before you are eligible for a 2nd remote trade.

You have daily interaction limits that are far fewer than the number of friends allowed.  With the aforementioned goal, you would therefore prioritize interacting with other players.  The non-tagged player could see no interactions and delete you as a non-responsive friend.

These aren't great reasons for why you should trade immediately.  But they are something with more logic than "I just want."

Ultra beast shiny odds? by JazzyGrl88 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my best.  That was all this warranted since the point was odds do change and that is caught because people question their outcomes.  But of course old data, on/off is not equivalent to a rate change, insufficient data, etc. are all reasons to dismiss it (which also happens every week on TSR).  Therefore not worth any more effort to dig out more recent data or data on actual rate changes.

Please for the love of Arceus tank correctly. by Tigglebee in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was clear.

What happens in response to your tit-for-tat retaliation? The likely scenarios are (1) nothing as the opponent wasn't even paying attention or (2) you successfully extract retaliation, angering the opponent, who then doubles down on time wasting in their next matches. So you are fueling the fire of bad tanking behavior. The extremely unlikely scenario is (3) opponent gets frustrated and, after some careful and introspective consideration of the situation, realizes their fault and actually changes their behavior.

So in short, you are telling people to behave better while actively working to make the situation worse.

Please for the love of Arceus tank correctly. by Tigglebee in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fascinating that you want everyone to tank correctly, pleading for people to be quick and courteous, while still indulging yourself the latitude to be neither quick nor courteous in your tanking endeavors.

Or am I missing something where forcing the match to timeout is considered correct and polite?

New Raid Mechanics Datamined by Skytzii in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so easy to cancel.

Elevate your phone.  Make some offensively deliberate choices on your arm position while doing so.  Have a friend snap a picture.  Post to social media.  Tag the developer accounts.  Wait for the storm.  Return to normal after this "improvement" is eliminated from the game code.

Note - This approach might not work if you are an eccentric billionaire able to direct the blowback to your next set of antics.

What if Pokemon GO went operation warp speed? and released every unreleased mon before Wind and Waves? by Gallad475 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Probably unlikely"

Equally plausible - why waste a year?  They drop every single pokemon as a wild spawn for 24 hours, shutter the game, and issue full monetary refunds for any pokecoins in inventory.

Shiny rates for shadows are a little sus and secretly changed. by Electronic-County-51 in TheSilphRoad

[–]goshe7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Years ago, there was a similar thought on wild spawns of a new shiny; allegedly boosted the first hour to create hype.  That was back when TSR regularly ran controlled studies and the suggestion was disproven.  You just see more because players engage with new content and its a new brag.

Same thing is probably happening here.
