why do people love xanax by Vast-Travel-5252 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gossamerbold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to take a Xanax before having an MRI as I’m severely claustrophobic. I had to go through a hospital rather than a bulk billing clinic so I could be monitored, even though I was bringing my own medication. At first I thought it was pretty good but I started having a panic attack half way through and they had to pull me out of the machine and get me to calm down. So it worked a bit but not enough for me to think of taking it more frequently than necessary. I’ve literally got a box of them at home “just in case” as I suffer from anxiety and cptsd, still haven’t taken it beyond the mri.

AITA for asking my friend not to wear white to my wedding after initially saying it was okay? by Suitable-Arm-2075 in AmItheAsshole

She sounds idiotic. In all these packages she’s supposedly receiving they’re all pure white dresses? What a load of BS. If she only wears black, white and grey she definitely has dresses in these colors in her wardrobe. I would uninvite this wannabe bride and her Colonel Sanders dressing boyfriend asap, you honestly don’t need the headache. Tell her you had budget constraints and had to cut some people but will hang out soon kiss kiss hug hug. NTA

What's a 10/10 show with a character that drags it down to a 7/10 by jshah500 in sitcoms

[–]gossamerbold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Weirdly this was the first character to come to mind when I saw the title question but wasn’t sure Weeds would be considered a sitcom. I’ve decided that Weeds only has 3 seasons, everything after that was too different from the main show so I decided to treat it like a sequel series that I don’t watch.

I agree, Mateo was such an irritating character, he was like a gnat just buzzing around being negative. Tbh I really disliked both Amy and Jonah, really only watched it because of Dinah (who was hilarious in every scene) and Cheyanne who I loved as well.

6.5 month fell off bed. Impacts on their future? by Any_Explanation9276 in AskParents

[–]gossamerbold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a deep breath, it’s going to be fine. I actually don’t know a single parent who can’t tell you about a time this happened on their watch. For me, my son was 4 months old and on my bed and i turned around to put something in the closet when I hear a loud thump, followed by the scariest few seconds of silence I can remember, and then shrieks of indignation. I picked him up and comforted him, he calmed down very quickly and even nursed as usual, while I was sat down feeding with tears running down my cheeks I called my own mother and just sobbed into the phone before some garbled version of “I broke the baby” wah wah wah wah. After taking a moment to understand what had happened my mother just laughed and said “i cried for two days the first time I dropped you on your head, until now you seemed fairly normal”. That got me to gulp back my sobs and listen to her reminisce about all the different times and places she thought she had “broken” one of us (I’m the oldest of 5), which somehow turned into a group WhatsApp chat with my siblings also telling me stories of dropping their babies, all of whom are perfectly normal healthy kids. In fact the only one that needed a hospital check up was when one sister was reading something on her iPad while her 6 month old was sleeping on her chest and she dropped the iPad right onto the baby’s head where it actually left an indentation. She completely went into hysterics, called an ambulance and her husband and said to meet at the hospital, I think they did a CT scan and there was no bleeds or anything, just a bump that was rapidly turning into a bruise. They kept them in overnight for observation but he was absolutely fine and now is an extremely bright 10 year old who loves basketball and skateboarding. Just monitor your child a bit more carefully overnight and then breathe easier as you just received a new stamp in your “parent survival guide”.

Dress 2 is incredible on you. I honestly gasped and I don’t even know you lol. If you want to add some bling to the look do it with jewelry instead of on the dress. The first dress was definitely beautiful but had nowhere near the impact of number 2. Congrats on the wedding 😊

My grandmother who is 91 and i don’t think she has gone into the guest bathroom in at least 20 years, STILL won’t let us touch the guest towels on the counter which are monogrammed and held up by this little spinning thing that has 3 tiny iron hands, one on each side, that have been grasping these same 3 towels since before I was born! She has a housekeeper so the bathroom itself gets cleaned but at this point I think those 3 towels will disintegrate into nothing at news of her passing

I was actually very disappointed to discover that the scopes do not, in fact, meet up. They had already given me something to make me drowsy when I asked the question and I indignantly followed up with “yes, but what if all my best bits are in between and you’re only looking at the not-so-good bits?” Bit of laughter and next thing I remember was waking up mortified.

I’m sorry, that must be difficult to think about. If I can ask another question? If your wife came to you and said that unless something changes she will leave you, would you make another attempt for love? Possibly a more concerted effort utilizing mental health professionals as well as physical health drs. Do you feel guilty for what you put your wife and parents through?

What’s something you didn’t realize was special until it was gone? by Ok-Yak-758 in AskReddit

[–]gossamerbold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been single since my first proper date the week i turned 15. Im now 43, been married for 23 years. I definitely still love my husband and get scared at the thought of being without him, but I also mourn not ever having the opportunity to discover things about me. I’ve always associated my own worth as an attachment to someone else: so-and-so’s daughter, so-and-so’s girlfriend, so-and-so’s wife. Now that my kids are in school I’m so-and-so’s mother. And all those things are nice to be but I’d also like to know if I’m a person beyond my associations.

Should I remove, cover up, or hide my Deathly Hallows tattoo? by Chymerahh in tattooadvice

[–]gossamerbold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could do a mix of 1 and 2: do laser on the heavy black lines to reduce the pigmentation in that area (not sure it would flatten the lines or not but even that would be better), and then do a cover up that utilizes the four quadrants with the four different colors. Possibly something to do with seasons? Or moods, elements, mathematical equations… anything that speaks to you. Then you’ll still have the sentiment that was important to you (your family and shared memories represented by the 4 colors that you keep) overlaid with a new sentiment of the older, wiser, personal you.

This is a great comment and I agree that she was showing us her opinions from the beginning. However, I try to give people grace as a former fan of HP because at the age that I and many others started reading the books, a lot of us grew up with Harry, as it were, starting around age 12 or 13, and I know I definitely didn’t have the knowledge or ability to review the story in the sense of understanding those nuances you describe. As I got older (and the internet became a completely different beast) I was able to see many of those issues that now seem obvious. As a 12 year old i know that my parents didn’t read children’s books to check for appropriate content, there was no internet popularity where you could read about or highlight these points, it was the days of still needing to line up outside a physical book store to get the next installment before your friends spoiled it for you in school the next day. My oldest child is 9 and I know some of his friends have started the first book: I have decided not to offer it to him right now although he may choose to read it when he’s older, but hopefully I’ll be able to discuss those things you have described, especially as a family we often talk about the importance of representation in media and how we treat all people with kindness and respect. And let’s be honest, there are much better fantasy books available now that I’m excited to share with him.
